I don´t feel confidence at all with pardew in the stands. But that said, they will probably be a little bit better prepared this time... So hopefully we will manage this anyway.
-
That said, can´t wait to be going to a match
-
Who is this psycho
I think I´m off to pick berries or something instead of this
-
He should come in and play games against teams like Atromitos. Not being rested in them so he can play against teams like Chelsea ffs.

If Simpson isn't removed from the side when Colo is fit, Pardew wants shooting.
I don't really think Perch is clearly better. Marginally on recent form maybe.
Perch is comfortably a better footballer than Simpson and he's shown it for the last year.

Really hope we buy Debuchy, anyway. Would improve us a lot, even from the little I've seen of him.
That´s why it´s so frustrating that we haven´t got one yet.

Song will be replaced by Sahin who is a much better player ( inb4 Song is a DM )
Van Persie was replaced by 3 players.
Thank you. Don't understand why people find it so hard to grasp this!
Arsenal will be better this year than last. No doubt about it.
Unless the players they have bought in fail to settle.
I don´t think that. There new players doesn´t look that impressive if you compare to the one thats left.

Awesome thread title

Holding us back. Shouldn´t be near a starting place but still is, very very disappointing.
-
Ok I get it now. But still. why is it the battle of 5th when you calculate that only 3 teams is going to be too good for us. Just because 67 points historically will get you a 5th place that doesn´t make this a battle of 5th
Predicting 3 teams to not 'need' to win against is irrelevant. It isn't a battle for 5th in reality, it's a battle for 67 points. Which incidentally, will definitely not achieve 4th.
Well, I´m sorry. I still think the title, in opposite to it´s content, is badly misleading (or what you should call it).
-
I think it just would not surprise many if we finish above Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal these days, hence the "Battle for 4th" move is understandable. But realistically, the aim should be to aim for at least a repeat of last season, which I would welcome with open arms if we are to have extra games in Europe and a rather small squad.
Also worth mentioning that we had a "Battle for 7th" thread running for the whole length of last season, but soon we eventually saw our chance at 4th, before ultimately settling for 5th. The thread title is irrelevant, it's the final league position that matters.
No one is demanding a top 4 finish. I just think that you should have a "realistic dream" and I think, as you says, that it is to finish top 4.
too have a battle of 5-7 just because that may be the likely outcome feels quite lame too me.

Why battle for 5th and not 4th
Think it´s implied that Arsenal is the 4th team. But I don´t think they are that good that we can´t compete. After all. This thread should be about reaching a goal, and reading interviews from pardew, Tioté etc our goal is to get in to the 4th position.
Other than that. Great thread

I´m afraid that Wigan will do quite alright this season.
Chelsea will be quite a hard cracker next week. Hopefully we can step up 10 times from yesterday.

Was a good sub and he did nothing wrong when he came on. Sickening too always read about how shit he is even if he makes it ok.
he will probably never reach the level everyone though he would. But to have him as an late sub in games isn´t a bad chose and people should let him be that player without boo and moan every time the few minutes he is playing.

Pardew was always going to play the 26-year-old who if anything looked even better than the player the Toon Army grew to love in the last campaign.
That´s old
It's also incorrect.

We should get the best out of discussions about Ben Arfa on this page.
needs more love

It ranks alongside the Nicky Butt overhead kick

I thought he played really well, he certainly wasn't at fault on the goal, if anybody was it was Simpson for letting the cross in. Lennon certainly did skin him once, but he'll go past most players once he's in the box at speed, trying to tackle him will always likely to result in a penalty.
Simpson gets beaten by Lennon for the goal and he receives criticism, Santon gets beaten by Lennon and Bale hits the post and nothing is said.
I think he actually won the header at the far post for the goal but she should definitely have reacted the same way Defoe & Saylor did, instead he stood still.
Don't get me wrong, I rate Santon much more highly than Simpson, but people have made their minds up now and there's no fair assessment.
Like it should be something new. Some players can´t succed and some can´t fail. I think everyone get there´s.
