  1. The problem with Jonas as the AM playing off the front men is the same dilemma we have with Duff and Milner in that position. Will they score goals? Arda? Yes Scholes? Yes Lampard? Yes Owen? yes Milner? Duff? Jonas? Looks more of a provider so best suited wide like others have said.
  2. Wouldn't argue with any of that. Owen is a class above Martins as a footballer, but Martins pace and ability to pull wide give us an extra option especially on the counter. One of the reasons why even with Viduka and Owen both fit, Keegan made room for Martins in his side last season.
  3. i personally think you're all comparing apples & oranges in the above, not of it's untrue about either player but you're ignoring the bits you don't want to acknowledge 'cause it suits you i'd sum up my view on relfection with; they both can play link up but in different areas of the pitch, owen is far better in tighter games like bolton as we saw dropping deep, martins is better on the move than owen as we've seen with some of his very good link up play with spiderman I'd agree with that. I'm an Owen fan btw, I said before the game it was a big plus to have him fit for the bench. The difference is, I can see the assets Martins brings to the side, not just single out his flaws.
  4. Makes you wonder why we bought Bellamy then? And why we went on to play Champs League Football after that? SBR must just have got lucky.
  5. Wimbledon won the FA Cup a few years back when we were out of Europe as well. Good point.
  6. I'm not talking about linking up as in getting on the end of things, I'm talking about linking up and doing things that your teams mates can get on the end of. I'll always favour the people that try to make something happen even if it doesn't come off every time rather than someone who just plays it safe i'd always favour the forward who keeps the ball and makes a move over one that tries a 1 in 10 pass and executes it poorly. Would Shearer prefer to play with another Shearer rather than Bellamy then? what ? Do you want me to spell it out? yes Ok...Shearer admitted he liked to play with Bellamy because he (BELLAMY) provide the legs. i.e. LEGS = MOVEMENT (off and on the ball). Alternatively (for example) Shearer had the option with playing with another finisher like Stephane Guivarche who LACKED MOVEMENT. (Possibly providing fewer options to the team ACROSS THE PITCH IN VITAL AREAS. Did that help?

  8. thats exactly how i see n'zogbia If you can't see any differences between the two then what's there to discuss? the only difference for me is that n'zogbia has greater potential (which i'm not sure will come through) Well I would say, Zog is quicker, can shoot with more venom and accuracy and can get past players at pace allowing him to deliver far more dangerous crosses. Against that, milner is more disciplined, plays safer, and works hard for the team and is generally a good lad. I don't see too many similarities to be fair. can...but doesn't. both players that had bags of potential. one is a crowd fave the other aint. look at how many times yesterday n'zogbia had the ball in fantastic positions and wasted the distribution(his first two crosses were excellent, but there must've been a dozen woeful crosses from better positions and more space and time than milner had) Doesn't really change what I said though. Just depends whether you prefer option A or B. I repeat they are not similar in any way at all.

    Saviola on loan?

And Barca winning the CL with Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Messi up top. ..and Man U winning the ultimate physical Premier league with midgets like Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez for that matter? Rooney's a fucking battering ram though. Ronaldo and Tevez are very strong. If you want a battering ram there are better options though.
  13. Good spot on the little brush off of defenders he does before the ball even comes in. Very clever, and not something you'd always associate with a player like Owen. I don't think its somehting he always did though, he has added it to his game after being called a one dimensional striker and after losing a yard or two of pace its served him very well. Smaller strikers can benefit from defenders not expecting them to get their head onto crosses but with Owens timing he is very very adapt at it. owen, despite the physical differences, is very similar to shearer. lots of players go through a spell where they are in the right position and score but those that do it year in year out are few and far between, hard to get off the ball, plays the game simply and is very consistent in finding his teams players. a little alarmed with the lack of good movement from martins. i hiope its just down to not having the chance to build up a rapport with a strike partner Martins movement isn't as clever as Owen's, but then Owen's movement is slower and more restricted. It isn't always black and white even for Newcastle. dunno bout that. martins never seems to use his pace. We don't play the ball in front of him, beyond the last defender enough for him IMO. thats as much down to him because of his movement (this is a re-enactment of an hours longargument in the pub last night) I think its as much down to the lack of a ball player as well though. maybe, but yesterday it was strange how much we went wide when martins was on yet had much more options through the middle when owen came on. thats because owen's got link up play in his game, martins just hasnt, his first touch is too un-reliable. if you watch owen he very very rarely wastes the ball. Neither does Duff to be fair. He just passes sideways and refuses to try and run past anyone.

6'1" on the wing aye. A bit like Jonas rather than Viduka for some who may not have got the point

Well when he's running, presumably someone has to run with him, dragging players out of position maybe?

How did Spain win the Euros incidentally? They pissed on most teams big and small.

  19. it works vice versa as well. Sheer poetry.
  20. Amazing how many people get dragged into it as well. Just enjoy people. Enjoy.

    Saviola on loan?

I would agree that our squad could probably use a mobile target man first or foremost, but if forced to accept a world class smaller striker due to lack of quality target men I won't be too disappointed.
  22. My problem with Milner is similiar to that with Duff. I said after Duff sparkled pre-season, that as soon as the first competitive match came round he would disappear up his own arse. Two matches in and what has he done? Milner can be seen the same way. Yes "he's only 22" but he had a cracking strike on him when he was 18. Why doesn't he score goals in the Premier? What makes someone who can hit the ball so well blaze it 40 ft over the bar when he gets anywhere near the penalty area?

    Saviola on loan?

I would say there's every chance of us signing Saviloa. So he's similar to Owen....that's the point. Owen could walk away after this season, and he doesn't play a whole load of games in any given season anyway. In my opinion Saviola and Owen could be quite tasty together in any case. Both are clever and quite capable of linking well in a passing team with one or the other dropping off as required.
