I'm sure Carroll didn't think twice about leaving, can't blame him in retrospect either. His stock has plummeted since then though, of course he'd be back in a flash if he had the chance.

Think he's more than good enough technically, given what else he offers. Attitude, price tag and durability are my concerns. If we could get him cheapish he's more than good enough for our level of "ambition", issues aside.

Don't think Robert would have done much under Pardew. He had runs where he'd do nothing for a few games, like pretty much any flair player. He'd have been dropped, especially if Pardew had the squad we had then. Speed or Dyer on the left, I'd guess. Even with our current squad he'd be frozen out, people really think a clown like Pardew would get performances from a player like Robert?

A 'no comment' would be read into and twisted I'm sure, at least if be did it now given his history of commenting on speculation. If he did it consistently over an extended period of time though I'd imagine after a while people would get the message. You'd still have some people looking to twist it every time, but I couldn't envisage them getting much traction with it. I've long given up listening to a word the man says about anything though.

If we could get any sort of decent fee for him and were willing to spend the money on a replacement I'd move him on. There's still a decent player in there somewhere but even when he's in form I don't think he's a good fit for what we need as our lone striker in the current system. We need someone who's good with his back to goal and can give us some sort of physical presence up there, which just isn't Cisse's game. The only way we'll see the best of him again is if we revert to a 4-4-2 and buy a target man to play alongside him. But with our current squad that'll require a massive overhaul of personnel which won't happen, so I'd rather we just shipped Cisse out and brought in someone who's a better fit.

Surprised we're getting anything for him to be honest. I'll be happy when he's gone, I can go back to liking him then.
