  1. God knows why, considering last season every match we were in on telly was dire (Everton at home excepted). Same as us, our game with Everton was pulsating too.
  2. We're obviously the new sexy team, us and Villa anyway.
  3. You act like it happens two or three times in every game, can hardly remember any such incidents from lasts eason for us myself. It's worth bringing in because these occasions are too rare to balance themselves out and they are so critical in a match. Also, it's a matter of fact rather than opinion so there's nothing to lose really.
  4. Only really Deco that I see working there tbh, not really Raul's game in my opinion.
  5. I think Raul would be the more likely one, though I'd much prefer Deco. Can't see any of the really big clubs in Europe wanting him, as he's obviously not the player he was some years back. If he is to leave Madrid, and I'm not sure he will at all, a team like us could be a very real option. We could sustain his massive wage, which very few other teams that will actually want him could do. I would expect better teams will want Deco though. He's only going to be leaving Barca because he's got Ronaldinho, Messi, Henry and Etoo' ahead of him, it's nothing to be ashamed of. AC Milan for instance would be a hell of a nice destination for him. Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Deco, Kaka and Ronaldo would be a very good 6, great balance to them.
  6. look at the title of the thread "Raul top target for Toon - NotW" ? was trying to get across that i didnt really see this as "real" news - more like fabricated bollocks It is the News of the World in all fairness.
  7. Raul could be called a trophy signing. I'd rather we get Gudjohnsen. Gudjohnsen can play midfield as well as up front, is younger and is proven in the Premier League. If we want to spend big and show some intent, either find a really exciting young talent that we can get or go out and buy the best central defender money can buy.
  8. I'd rather we signed someone with their best years ahead of them rather than behind tbh. Still, I wouldn't say no to Raul or Deco like.
  9. To be fair Shak, that poster was the exception rather than the rule. Most seemed to have kept grip of reality. I did say they'd started off well tbh. There's one or two who you can see know the truth, just can't bring themselves to say it. Which is fair enough. I'm convinced Bubble07 is KD, his response "shearer is a better goalscorer but berbatov is the better footballer."
  10. Your sarcastic post shows how clueless you are tbh. Van nistelroory though a very good goalscorer was also a limited player. Take for instance Filippo Inzaghi, the guy has managed to score so many goals on a constant bases despite being a very limited striker (i suppose someones going to try and argue that now). How was Shearer a limited player when he scored every type of goal? You call me clueless and you think Dimitar Berbatov can be mentioned in the same sentence as Shearer and Beardsley? If the shoe was on the other foot and one of our lot was on Glory Glory comparing Lee to Hoddle, I'd be embarrassed. I'd hope other Spurs fans would be, however knowing them, I suspect not. Tbh im 90% sure that most neutral fans would agree that Berbatov possess more to his game then Shearer in his prime yet Shearer is clearly the better goalscorer. Let me as you something then Wullie, Did shearer ever in his career have the touch and technique of berbatov?, did Shearer ever have the creativity of Berbatov? Comparing this debate to rob lee and Glenn Hoddle more or less proves how delusional you are. Does Berbatov have the shooting power and accuracy from distance of Shearer? Does Berbatov have the finishing ability of Shearer? Does Berbatov have the heading abilty of Shearer? Does Berbatov have the pace of Shearer? Does Berbatov have the crossing ability of Shearer? Does Berbatov have the positional sense of Shearer? Does Berbatov have the movement of Shearer? Does Berbatov have the incredible strength of Shearer? We could play this game all night sunshine. Berbatov does some things better than Shearer and Shearer does a hell of a lot more better than Berbatov. Lee vs Hoddle is a fine comparison - Robert Lee was a top class Premiership midfielder and the second best midfielder in this country for a good few years in the 90s, while Hoddle was genuine world class. Berbatov is a top class striker, but Shearer was world class. Btw, I just said to my Boro supporting best mate "we've got a Yid on our board reckons Berbatov was better than Shearer", his reply was "I'm biased but errr no I don't think so ". The answer is 'yes;' to all the ones in bold. You could make a case for positional sense and movement definitely, I'd even agree with you by and large. But crossing ability? Give over, Shearer's crossing was absolutely world class.
  11. http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=16694 After a promising start where they seemed to be redeeeming themselves as fans, they've slipped. One has gone so far as to agree with Tony Cascarino's bizarre declaration that Berbatov is the 2nd coming of Van Basten. "In Dimitar Berbatov, are we seeing the second coming of Marco van Basten? I doubt it. No one has come close in the past 20 years. But as I have watched Berbatov prosper this season, it strikes me that he bears comparison to the former Holland forward. That is praise enough because Van Basten was virtually the perfect No 9 – light on his feet, good in the air and on the ground, creative for his teammates, destructive to the opposition; a rare blend of instinct and cunning. It was Van Basten in the 1980s and early 1990s and it is Berbatov now. He has carried Tottenham Hotspur as Didier Drogba has carried Chelsea and Thierry Henry has carried Arsenal. Berbatov sees things early, as Dennis Bergkamp did – those little through-balls, delivering or collecting. Creating time for yourself is an art. Bergkamp was a master and Teddy Sheringham has made a career out of it. In front of goal, Berbatov is an Ian Rush, a Gary Lineker, a Jean-Pierre Papin, taking the earliest opportunity to shoot, one or two touches, not overelaborate."
  12. Agreed, you'd swear we were Wigan or Bolton FFS.
  13. http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=16694 Let's see what this lot make of it then. Sadly, I expect Berbatov will actually get the nod here.
  14. I guess only Ruud Gullit can enter my 'bizzare mindset' then. Really doesn't help your case bringing Gullit into it tbh. It was obviously a personal problem between the two that led to Gullit's attitude to Shearer.
  15. During this whole debate ive never once said that Berbatov was or is a better striker then Shearer ever was. Berbatov will probably never ever reach the goalscoring heights of Shearer but my belief is that berbatov has more to his game then Shearer did in his prime. Who contributes more to a team?

  17. Nice story. I can also tell you that countless conversations i had with my mates about how limited shearer was as a player. Very good goalscorer, very good headerer of the ball and good hold up play. They are your mates afterall. Quality conversations no doubt.
  18. It would be imperative that teams play 38 games though, to ensure some teams don't have easier fixtures than others.
  19. Too many games though, especially in a WC or Euro year. If the 16th placed team can't win at home to the 19th place team they have no excuses IMO.
  20. Would you be in favour of them? As we saw from the Wigan-Sheffield United game, a one-off, winner-take-all end of season game is pretty much as good as it gets in terms of pure drama and committed football. As it is in the Premiership, generally by the time there are five matches left more than half of the teams have nothing left to play for. Be they stuck in mid-table obscurity, already relegated or a cert to finish either 3rd or 4th, the result is always the same. Half-hearted efforts in relatively meaningless games. End of season playoffs could really spice things up if you ask me. Obviously, whoever finishes top should win the league and get the trophy. Would never change that. However, when it comes to CL / UEFA places and relegation, I think they'd be mint. Here's what I would propose. - Team to finish in 1st place are champions, with whoever finishes 2nd joining them in getting an automatic CL spot. - 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th go into two matches for the other CL spots, with the losers netting UEFA Cup spots. 3rd vs 6th 4th vs 5th Whichever team finished higher has home advantage. - Assuming the CC is won by team in the Top 6, the teams that finished 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th go into a 4-team knockout tournament for the last UEFA spot. - 20th place is automatically relegated. - 16th vs 19th with the loser going down. 17th vs 18th with the loser going down. Really think it would give teams something to play for right until the end, as only positions 11th-15th end up with nothing. Had it been in effect last season we'd have seen. Relegation: Fulham vs Charlton Wigan vs Sheffield United WAFFA Bolton vs Blackburn Reading vs Portsmouth Winners face-off, with whoever had the higher PL finish getting home advantage. Champions League Place Arsenal vs Spurs Liverpool vs Everton  How good would those CL games have been? Obviously there will be a few tweaks needed, but in general is this a good idea or a bad idea?
  21. He's probably not likely to say "we talk s****" tbh. Plus he was probably put off by our sceptical and generally abusive attitude towards his "scoop". Shame on you all.
