  1. http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=16694 After a promising start where they seemed to be redeeeming themselves as fans, they've slipped. One has gone so far as to agree with Tony Cascarino's bizarre declaration that Berbatov is the 2nd coming of Van Basten. "In Dimitar Berbatov, are we seeing the second coming of Marco van Basten? I doubt it. No one has come close in the past 20 years. But as I have watched Berbatov prosper this season, it strikes me that he bears comparison to the former Holland forward. That is praise enough because Van Basten was virtually the perfect No 9 – light on his feet, good in the air and on the ground, creative for his teammates, destructive to the opposition; a rare blend of instinct and cunning. It was Van Basten in the 1980s and early 1990s and it is Berbatov now. He has carried Tottenham Hotspur as Didier Drogba has carried Chelsea and Thierry Henry has carried Arsenal. Berbatov sees things early, as Dennis Bergkamp did – those little through-balls, delivering or collecting. Creating time for yourself is an art. Bergkamp was a master and Teddy Sheringham has made a career out of it. In front of goal, Berbatov is an Ian Rush, a Gary Lineker, a Jean-Pierre Papin, taking the earliest opportunity to shoot, one or two touches, not overelaborate."
  2. Agreed, you'd swear we were Wigan or Bolton FFS.
  3. http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=16694 Let's see what this lot make of it then. Sadly, I expect Berbatov will actually get the nod here.
  4. I guess only Ruud Gullit can enter my 'bizzare mindset' then. Really doesn't help your case bringing Gullit into it tbh. It was obviously a personal problem between the two that led to Gullit's attitude to Shearer.
  5. During this whole debate ive never once said that Berbatov was or is a better striker then Shearer ever was. Berbatov will probably never ever reach the goalscoring heights of Shearer but my belief is that berbatov has more to his game then Shearer did in his prime. Who contributes more to a team?

  7. Nice story. I can also tell you that countless conversations i had with my mates about how limited shearer was as a player. Very good goalscorer, very good headerer of the ball and good hold up play. They are your mates afterall. Quality conversations no doubt.
  8. It would be imperative that teams play 38 games though, to ensure some teams don't have easier fixtures than others.
  9. Too many games though, especially in a WC or Euro year. If the 16th placed team can't win at home to the 19th place team they have no excuses IMO.
  10. Would you be in favour of them? As we saw from the Wigan-Sheffield United game, a one-off, winner-take-all end of season game is pretty much as good as it gets in terms of pure drama and committed football. As it is in the Premiership, generally by the time there are five matches left more than half of the teams have nothing left to play for. Be they stuck in mid-table obscurity, already relegated or a cert to finish either 3rd or 4th, the result is always the same. Half-hearted efforts in relatively meaningless games. End of season playoffs could really spice things up if you ask me. Obviously, whoever finishes top should win the league and get the trophy. Would never change that. However, when it comes to CL / UEFA places and relegation, I think they'd be mint. Here's what I would propose. - Team to finish in 1st place are champions, with whoever finishes 2nd joining them in getting an automatic CL spot. - 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th go into two matches for the other CL spots, with the losers netting UEFA Cup spots. 3rd vs 6th 4th vs 5th Whichever team finished higher has home advantage. - Assuming the CC is won by team in the Top 6, the teams that finished 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th go into a 4-team knockout tournament for the last UEFA spot. - 20th place is automatically relegated. - 16th vs 19th with the loser going down. 17th vs 18th with the loser going down. Really think it would give teams something to play for right until the end, as only positions 11th-15th end up with nothing. Had it been in effect last season we'd have seen. Relegation: Fulham vs Charlton Wigan vs Sheffield United WAFFA Bolton vs Blackburn Reading vs Portsmouth Winners face-off, with whoever had the higher PL finish getting home advantage. Champions League Place Arsenal vs Spurs Liverpool vs Everton  How good would those CL games have been? Obviously there will be a few tweaks needed, but in general is this a good idea or a bad idea?
  11. He's probably not likely to say "we talk s****" tbh. Plus he was probably put off by our sceptical and generally abusive attitude towards his "scoop". Shame on you all.
  12. So we've signed Gudjohnsen then? Sorted.
  13. Can't find anything that suggests it's actually peasepud, so that's a start. Peasepud leaves no clues... Only what he wants you to see.

    Roeder v Fat Sam

Already been posted, but well worth another thread to tear the rat-faced bag of shite apart if you ask me.
  15. Just to confirm, he is definitely from Iceland. Interesting. I'd fuckin love it if he was telling the truth though, love it.
  16. Premier League are going to end up looking like complete idiots over this. Feel sorry for Tevez (or as sorry as you can feel for someone born with his talents). Destined to be one of the world's best players yet faces potentially being tied to this Joorbowchikawawah fella his entire career. I'll take it though, anything to scupper this deal.
  17. Alan Shearer. And vastly more, as well. Only Asprilla wasn't a better player, arguably Ferdinand as well I suppose. mackems.gif mackems.gif shearer?? so Shearer has the vision and creativity of Berbatov? NO So shearer has the passing ability of Berbatov? NO So Shearer has the touch and Control of Berbatov? NO So Shearer has the link-up play of Berbatov? NO Beardsley may be closer to the truth, though i still feel Berbatov is the overall better player. Link up play, yes. Berbatov is nowhere near the finisher Shearer was, he's got nowhere near the shot from distance Shearer had, he's nowhere near as good in the air. Shearer at his peak was quicker too. If you really think Berbatov is a better striker than Shearer in his prime then you are, without question, the stupidest human being I've ever encountered.Bar none. Shearer's link-up play consisted of him using his upper body strength to protect the ball and wait patiently for a runner from midfield to help. To me that dosent show he has good link up play, just means he was strong. As for your last sentence, i never claimed Berbatov was the better striker just that he is a much better player overall to Alan shearer which most neutral would agree with tbh. I didn't realise different types of link-up play were not as acceptable as others, even though they achieve the exact same thing. The're both strikers? And Shearer is the better striker, yet Berbatov is the better player? ... Well done einstein, your finally grasping it. Much like Henry is the better player yet Van Nistelrooy is the better striker. You mean to say goalscorer instead of striker, I assume? Who offers more to a team then? Shearer in his prime (not that you've ever seen him of course) or Berbatov.

Aye, but Berbatov is the better PLAYER. Whatever the fuck that means. (I know what he's trying to say by the way)
  19. Planning to resort to your usual tactics of attacking me on a personnel level are we now Baggio?? It's a pretty valid question, because you are either mentally challenged, or are a childish wum (or both). To be fair, a mentally challeneged child would be doing pretty well to grasp to concept of being a WUM. Never mind actually executing it with moderate success as Kingduhson does.

  23. While Dyer won't replace Lampard obviously, I reckon he'd be a very good signing for Chelsea. His best position has always been on the bench. Not being funny here, but he offers you so much from the bench. Chasing a game, you can throw him on for any one of your midfielders or even a full-back and he'll add a bit of pace and something fresh to the team. In tight games, throw him on an he's capable of producing that litrtle spark, especially if he's fresh while his opponents might be weary late in the game. Defending a lead, throw him on for a striker and use his pace on the counter attack to pick teams off. At Newcastle, he's not gonna want to sit on the bench. At Chelsea though, he'd be more open to it. He'd get plenty of starts due to the amount of games they play, while he knows his usefullness coming off the bench would be an invaluable weapon so he'll always be in the manager's thoughts.
