  1. I live in Manchester si watch a lot of their games. They're a really weird team, when they concede, they have it in them to completely collapse (liverpool, brentford, man city they were lucky we didn't hit them for 4 or 5 etc), they rarely seem to beat anyone convincingly, it always appears a bit laboured, their away record is pretty atrocious. Yet they've conceded 8 goals or so at home all season, will finish 3rd, have won a cup and may win another.

None of it adds up really.

Think everyone can see they're heading in the right direction though. Best bet for us is their takeover drags on (or even better doesn't happen) and it slows them down a bit next season.

He's a great player, but when things are not going well, he always looks like one of the first to hide to me. He's also perma-crocked.

    Talented, though.

    is he?

he's missed 6 games this season, 2 last. The season before was pretty bad for him injury wise but that's not the norm for him really.

    Is my maths correct here?

If we beat Leeds on Saturday, and somehow Leicester beat Liverpool on Monday, would we then only need a draw against Brighton on the Thursday?

Yeah, we’d need one more point.

if Liverpool lose to Leicester their max points total is 68.

if we beat Leeds we’ll be on 68.

Not a peep out of them towards us for 40 years until they finish above us for the first time in said 40 years, after which they invent a rivalry with us.

Couldn't give one tenth of one single fuck about the Dogheads, it's a one-way rivalry in exactly the same way Coventry have with us.

    sounds like Middlesbrough with us.

Fine with me I’d want as many big name teams as possible first time out

Getting there is a long way away still though

    agree on all of that.

Don't think we'd be anyones 'whipping boys', just meant more thats how we'd be seeded in line with the example given.

Lets get there first though, long way off yet as you say.

I'd go unchanged from Nottingham Forest with Gordon, Joelinton and Wilson outstanding bench options.

I’d swap joelinton for asm, personally.

I do think the potential to increase FFP revenue by selling isak or bruno for 100m to any team. Rival or not is a nailed on certainty.

If we offered city 100m for haaland. He would be a Geordie

Not a chance. They're talking about £150m for a 30 year old Harry Kane this summer.

Haaland (if there' not a clause) will be a £200m player all day long.

Aye, very harsh. Even if we bring in a right sided CB in the Summer, I'd fully expect it to be a young'un with a lot of potential to be blooded in slowly. Schar and Botman are good for at least one more season after this.

we will bring in another right sided centre half i think, and it will be a younger player signed for a hell of a lot more money. They'll also have ambitions for him to be better than Schar. Not sure what's harsh about it.

Why on earth would we consider selling him to you? Why would you want to offer £100m, as you said?

I think he's turned it around with us recently, but there's two things absolutely sure here - firstly, that he's never worth anything like £100m, so anyone even prepared to offer that much would be setting themselves up to get financially fucked every time they go for a player, and secondly, there is absolutely no way the owners would sell him unless the manager expressly wanted them to, and I struggle to think of a player Emery loves more than Watkins. And that's before the whole argument over whether he'd want to go or not.

The bigger point here is that there is no point the likes of us or you buying players like Watkins in any case - he's not the sort of acquisition needed to move to the next level, and worth remembering - even given the manager's love for him, one of our pressing priorities this summer is for another proven striker.

To explain that a bit better - I like what he has done under the manager, and wasteful though he is, he definitely does add a lot to our style of play. But even having said that, I'd be disappointed if we spent this summer buying players of that level, that's not going to be enough to move to the next level.

I don't watch enough of you to know which players to highlight here (maybe Almiron, but I know Howe has done this with several of your players) but to use our squad as an example, it's about getting better results from players you already have (in our case, Watkins, Luiz and McGinn obvious examples) and then buying better quality players to add in.

More of the same isn't really going to be enough.

This is a great post I think, exactly the same applies to us as you.

We need more bruno's, botman's and isaks and not more longstaff's, schar's and burn's (as good as they have been).
