  1. You wouldn't expect to find this thread close to dropping from the front page in the transfer window, hence bump.. Not a very good sign though..
  2. At some point the money has been paid - the paper loss (i.e ammortisation) is just spreading it over a few years. For the most part that would have been pre-Ashley though. Let's face it, he's not exactly spunked loads on new players, has he? It follows suit that in years to come we will make profits on paper (what with the likes of Owen fully written off), but just like paper losses, paper profits don't prevent/allow investment, do they?
  3. Can the financial wizards answer this question: Amortisation being depreciation for intangible assets, does it not serve the purpose to retain profits (if any) to build funds to replace the assets? I.e. are we not purely talking about (for the main part) a paper loss that has very little relevance to the club's bank account and the availability of money for investment if any has been made available?
  4. On the other hand, if we lost that game and there were no new signings or none that are seen as a significant improvement with it being the last day of the transfer window there could be full scale riots..
  5. Oh dear, it's descended into an old board/new board discussion again. The simple facts are the old board fucked up badly at the end of their tenure, and the new board have not been able to buck the trend, far from it even, despite all their talk about competing with the best and moving the club forward. Personally, I am currently more concerned about the lack of ambition shown by our CURRENT owner than by whatever mistakes the old board have made. Those have all been discussed over and over again and don't affect our future; the actions, or lack thereof, of the new board do however, and it's not looking good at the moment..
  6. So we're midway through another transfer window and exactly the same thing is happening, only Kinnear is a lot more vocal towards the press than Keegan and Allardyce used to be. What's interesting is Kinnear used to walk the company line in the press, but in recent days he's become more critical as he now realises he's being taken for a ride just like his predecessors were. Ashley really needs to get his finger out and deal with the structural problems at this club, or relegation is a distinct possibility, and if that happens the buck will stop at him and him only..
  7. We´re privately owned now, so there is no accountability to shareholders anymore, is there?
  8. It wasn't an absolute disaster. Although it didn't end well we also had a few seasons that we could only dream off now..
  9. What's wrong with a mixture? Keeping Keegan instead of Wise and spending another £10-15m would probably have seen us qualify for Europe this year - how much will relegation cost? Bollocks. I reckon we'd be slightly better under Keegan. Before the events of the summer transfer window end unfolded, most people felt our squad (and manager) would see us finish between 5th and 10th. I (and a few others) was ridiculed for saying our squad wasn't strong enough and predicting a lower table finish.
  10. Cracking article from Neil Farrington in the Sun there..
  11. He's cracking under pressure. Not a good sign..
  12. Newcastle is doing canny well on my save (I am Blyth Spartans). League finishes: 2008/2009: 12 2009/2010: 3 2010/2011: 5 2011/2012: 8 Currently in 2013: 5 2010: winner of the FA Cup I'd settle for that..
