He was s*** before and has improved slightly to be just about decent. We (or he) need to improve in his position if we want to go anywhere. He was very good for Man City, so I've not written him off, just disagree that he's done anything yet to justify his price tag. He has been excellent last few games, looked like the all action player he was before, just perhaps lacking that drive when running with the ball. tackling, passing, movement been good and he is starting to justify his price tag (which in all fairness is hardly outrageous) Nobody in our team has been excellent the last few games, and Barton hasn't been better than most of the others most of the time. Could you point out some incidents in these matches where he has done anything noteworthy. I can only think of his pass for Martin's goal.

Why? Innocent until proven guilty, and even then I'm only really truly bothered about what he does on the pitch. Which isn't anywhere near enough imho.. Good pass for Martins' goal, but in our midfield 3 he's the one you'd expect to be pulling the strings of our attack consistently and he's just far too invisible for me in that repect. He needs replacing with a true attacking midfield player. Butt provides decent protection to the defense at least.

Barton before Butt for me, and the 3 usual suspects. Butt has arguably been one of our better players this season. I fail to see what Barton offers us exactly. Geremi and Butt offer us more in midfield at the moment. I know Barton has got time on his side and I don't particularly care about his off the field anthics, but he's just not very good on it. Shame he doesn't look anything like the player he was last season for Man City.. If I could replace 5 in this poll the whole midfield would go however, which is a sad consideration..

Funny how the article starts out: then a little later on: I love the optimism, but he's got a real fight on his hands. We can't realistically compete for players with the top 4 at this point in time, and we've lost our most recent transfer targets (Woodgate, Modric) to a team we should be aiming to consistently beat in the Premiership table. We are not exactly renowned for our great academy and scouting infrastructure (although they are apparently working on that, but it could be years or decades before we reap the rewards from those investments), so it's going to take an awful lot of investment to get back to the hights we were previously. They're 2-0 down in a huge game on the back of an awful 1st half performance, what were you expecting? It's just a spell we need to see through and we're doing so pretty comfortably at the moment. What? This is Newcastle Sunderland ffs. I´m expecting us to display our superiority, not sit back and soak up pressure. This second half reminds me of Allardyce, or am I not allowed to criticise the team now King Kev´s in charge? I didn't say that at all - Sunderland were always going to have a pop at us after the break, with an earful from Keane at half time and relegation still on the cards what else would you expect? We've defended very capably in their best spell of the match - surely that deserves some credit? Our defending deserves some credit, although Sunlun have had some decent chances. Personally, I don´t think much of this Sunderland team and would have thought attacking them in the second half would have been a better way to defend our lead..
