  1. It's understandable trying to rationalise this seemingly imminent appointment by looking at his CV and the opinions of fans from his previous clubs and saying he will get a fair crack of the whip if appointed, but the fact remains that it should never have come to this. Which other club this size whose owner has just come out two weeks ago to claim he wants the club to win something or qualify for Champions League football would even give 2015 Steve McClaren a second look, let alone crawl back to him after being rejected twice in the past six months? Yes, he is definitely better than John Carver (who isn't even a manager) and yes, he is probably even slightly better than Pardew, but this is another opportunity (same as in January) for Mike Ashley to wipe the slate clean and start afresh by making an ambitious appointment and giving that man some decent backing. There are plenty of good candidates, young up and coming managers with decent pedigree available and seemingly interested. Appointing Steve McClaren under these circumstances is a p*ss take, especially with the three stooges apparently remaining in place too. If this happens, the club deserve pelters, not "meh, could have been worse, I will give it a chance and see what happens". It's as clear a sign as you could have wished that nothing will change under this ownership until the fans collectively force it to happen.
  2. Of which FC Twente was not one tbf.
  3. Regardless whether he failed or not taking into account the relative strength of the squad at his disposal, the fact remains he was sacked from his last four jobs, the last two of which in a lower league. He is also known to have had problems with the TD system and with owners who did not want to splash the cash. Quite how anybody could look at him and think he is the appointment that will galvanise this failing club is beyond me.
  4. Unbelievable

    John Carver

He said he would be prepared to walk away if he didn't get the manager's job here. So what happened, did his legs fall off? He said both, he obviously only ever meant what Ian W said.
  5. Oh my God, you couldn't make it up
  6. Also, to clarify, it most definitely wasn't me.
  7. Wouldn't surprise me at all if this happens. He has turned us down twice before in the past six months, so clearly he doesn't think we're all that. This club man, whoring ourselves to a sacked Championship manager who has failed at his last four jobs with the most likely alternative being the worst (?) Premier League caretaker manager the competition has ever seen.
  8. It was kind of left field to go for Vieira in the first place. I can only think he must have a growing reputation inside the game and he thinks enough of his own abilities to believe he can get a good job down the line. Of course, but we are Newcastle United FFS. Wasn't long ago we used to compete at the top end of the table and now a youth coach with no managerial experience to speak off turns us down because he can't work under the constraints of Mike Ashley's model. Yet the fat cunt still thinks he knows best
  9. I've believed for years the model would prevent us from attracting top class managers, but now it even gets scoffed at by completely inexperienced manager hopefuls.
  10. That's the way it should be done tbh. They should be told prior to any announcement in the press. well yeah, if they then intended to go right ahead and announce the manager at a press conference, do you think that's very f***ing likely? I think JC has a right to know before he's dragged in a press conference as the new manager like
  11. How long have Carver & co left on their contracts? Five years isn't it? We are bound to see the McClaren/Carver combo contracted until well into the next decade then..
  12. Didn't he say McLaren hasn't been interviewed yet? Interesting. No... Luke Edwards ‏@LukeEdwardsTele 3h3 hours ago Steve McClaren is on holiday apparently. No plans to return at moment. Hasn't been offered job but is under consideration after talks #nufc
  13. I bet they'll be in demand when they are finally told to f*** off. They won't be.
  14. "John, congratulations, you've got the job...can you pass the phone to Steve? ..Steve, we've given it to John"
  15. The window licker has inferred we haven't contacted McClaren and stand to speak to Carver again.
  16. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that JC was the plan until the Leicester loss, when it finally dawned on Ashley and Charnley that he might relegate the club. I think even now there is a decent chance they might risk it in the end, especially as other potential candidates turn them and their ridiculous terms down.
  17. McClaren arguably failed in his last four jobs, none as big as this one. It could be worse aye, but we should aim a whole lot higher, both for where this club should be and for what Mike Ashley said he wanted for the club as recently as 10 days ago.
  18. Well done to Sky and the Sun for being on the ball? A "club source" no doubt told them.
