I thought Ryder was Chief Sports Editor, so effectively Douglas' (and the others') boss?

I know it's Lee Ryder and he can barely write, but this phrasing is ominous if you ask me: "By that stage, we should hopefully know whether managing- director Lee Charnley has decided to go public on whether the Magpies will wait until the end of the season before naming a head coach or if he decides John Carver is the man to take Newcastle to the end of the season." http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/forget-newcastle-united-head-coach-8460614 Edit: this too: "The good thing for Carver and Co is the Magpies were so poor between beating West Ham (Cabaye’s last game) and the end of last season they surely cannot be any worse than they were in those final 16 games."
  4. I'm sure it came out that he never actually said these things but could be wrong. I remember reading the quotes at the time and thinking 'this is it' Ashley never gives interviews and Im pretty sure the paper made this guff up. Its everything NUFC fans wanted to hear, where in reality we constantly get told the opposite, cant compete , 5 year plans, no money... "wallop" Such a northern expression, no way would Ashley used that kind of word. IT came out on a sunday, to sell papers. Load of guff. That is simply not true. Before the relegation/promotion there were plenty of statements from Ashley, Mort and Llambias indicating a similar level of ambition. Hell, Keegan was ordered to London for crunch talks for daring to suggest top four might be beyond us without very significant investment. Ashley never came out and said a peep. Mort may have done but I dont ever recall them saying they wanted to compete at the very top. Just because you can't remember doesn't mean it didn't happen.

All depends if it is his little media barrage, or the club's. The quotes are obviously from the pre-match presser, but the fact that the local newspapers issue article after article on them without even questioning if such an appointment would be befitting of a club of Newcastle's stature tells its own story really. John Carver for Newcastle manager man, any self respecting journalist should be tearing him a new one for having ideas above his station, but there's been none of that, which strongly suggests they (the local media) are on a very tight leash indeed.

Are The Chronicle not banned any more? Seems to me they're more likely to just be writing whatever guff comes to mind on a daily basis. I seriously doubt they have much (if any) actual knowledge about what's going on. The ban was lifted in December (http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/newcastle-united-lifts-ban-local-press-telegraph-journalists-remain-barred). It's not far fetched at all to believe that they have been given a heads up that an announcement is imminent and to start spreading pro-Carver stuff imho. The Bishop knows exactly what he is doing.

Chronicle well and truly back in the club's back pocket and helping pave the way for a Carver announcement after the Southampton game. Bastards, the lot of them.

He's getting the gig isn't he? FFS
  10. Ours is definitely thicker than your like. Yours may not be interested any longer and unable to find a buyer to cut ties, ours is a devious cunt who takes pleasure in taking apart something many people hold dear.
  11. As long as he can drip feed Rangers enough cash until the end of the season (with his cost-cutter in chief already in place) then he can get on with the business of selling NUFC and that's why I suspect we are dragging our heels over a new manager. Rangers can't raise equity and no-one else is going to loan them money while Ashley is the majority creditor, meanwhile the club bleeds millions each month. He's got this one sewn up. He will find a way around the dual ownership/Scottish FA issue imo. Good things don't happen to this club unfortunately.
  12. Oh and James, lay off the drugs man
  13. This is not outside the reals of possibility if you ask me, the good news being he might well get killed by a Rangers fan.

  15. True. They were paying him wages though, which has to be taken into account in how much the Defoe deal will ultimately cost them.
  16. Defoe's game is about more than pace to be fair. Fires his shots very quickly with little back lift catching out goalkeepers and seems to score a lot of his goals from distance in open play. Not injury prone either for somebody relying on pace if I remember correctly. I think he will definitely keep them up this season and next, which will have made the investment more than worth it. Whether the length of the deal comes back to bite them in the arse after that will depend on how quickly he tails off, but I don't think it's a bad deal at all personally, especially when you factor in they've got rid of Antiscore. Yes, they overpaid a little (wages mainly), but then they have to or no player of his ability would even contemplate joining them.
  17. Could just be a case of Colo asking for an update on the new manager search on behalf of the squad. If we feel so frustrated at how long this takes and the lack of communication from the powers that be, imagine how the players must feel.
