There are at least four people (Felipao, The Prophet, Mole and me) on here who claim they have seen plenty of him (more than you no doubt) who think he has hit a purple patch and is a pretty average player, almost certainly not good enough for the top end of the Premier League, which is where we apparently aim to compete and not worth what we would likely have to pay with his stock being as high as it is ever going to be. I am yet to see anybody say they have seen him play loads and suggest the opposite. Your blind hope argument doesn't really carry much weight I'm afraid.

Same goes for Ziyech who is more a central attacking midfield player, plays for McClaren's old club who are in a mess financially so may well be willing to do a deal. Both beautiful left pegs

Nobody knows jack shit, but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence from 8 years of Ashley ownership to suggest we are in for another shocker of a transfer window. From where I am sitting they have given a clear "statement of intent" by appointing McClaren.

I think this is inevitable either way. The squad needs so much that I can't see how we realistically close that gap, especially to our "top 8" ambitions. I don't think we'll be as bad in the coming season now that Carver has gone but we've been so poor in so many transfer windows that teams above us just need to address one or two weak areas and can do so with their new TV money. We need to address of 5 or 6 positions and do so without TV money. Ansolutely. We have suffered from such under-investment that you would be looking at the best part of 100m now to get us competing for Europe.

Linked with a host of Championship players at 10m a pop, which seems to be the going rate nowadays for a good player at that level. Unless Ashley starts to realise that fees have doubled as TV money has increased we don't stand a chance and will only get weaker relative to our competition.

Ask them if they believe we would have been relegated if we would have taken the cups seriously as per their stance in last year's fan forum meeting. And if this is indeed the case, why are they risking the club's future by now taking the cups seriously as per the McClaren appointment statement?

I am absolutely intrigued to hear what Lee Charnley means by the mistakes that he admitted had been made by the club in his letter to the fan forum meeting members, if these mistakes had been made before or were "new" mistakes and how the club are going to avoid making the same mistake again (and again and again)?
