Bas Dost is your typical forward going on a hot streak (like wor Papiss in his first half season). To splash big cash at him based on his goal flurry earlier this year would be a massive mistake. Six months ago Wolfsburg were keen to get rid of their expensive squad player and wiling to sell or even loan him out for peanuts to Feyenoord. I work in Rotterdam, and even the Feyenoord fans here were not convinced, and this coming from a club in dire need of offensive reinforcements. Trust me, whoever spends 10m or more on Bas Dost may as well flush it down the toilet. He's very tall, I'll give him that.

I will not leave before we win something <> I will leave after we've won something. In answer to the question, I would celebrate like a madman.
-
How does I am not leaving this football club until we have won something equate to "I want this club to win something and will do everything within my power to make it happen" FFS? To me, it simply means "this club hasn't won anything for 60 years, so I will be here forever harvesting it, and may even stay in the unlikely event that the club win something under my watch"

Smoke and mirrors, we've just hired a manager who was sacked by a championship side 2 weeks ago The reaction to this has been fascinating from a psychological perspective. Just goes to show the massive damage the four years of Pardew (and Carver) has done to the self respect of our fan base. Have to hand it to Ashley in a way, how he is slowly but surely changing the entire fabric of our club, including its fans.

What does "give him a chance" mean really? I doubt many people will bring their Sack McClaren bedsheets to the first home game of the season, or cancel their season ticket exclusively on the back of this appointment. Of course he will get a chance to prove if he can make things work and he will be judged on performances and results, just like any other football manager. However, giving him a chance shouldn't mean that he is beyond valid criticism for me. I'm beyond giving Mike Ashley a chance at this stage, which makes it that much harder to be truly enthusiastic about anyone who associates himself with them and sings from the same hymn sheet, but as most people I am willing to see how things pan out before getting the proverbial knives out whilst reserving the right to call it as I see it, when I see it. That's the maximum I can muster I'm afraid for a manager who in reality shouldn't be anywhere near a club aiming for "top 8 in the Premier League" at this stage of his career.

This will go wrong very quickly and very spectacularly. This is Newcastle United, it's what we do. -
If he had any balls he would tell them to f*** off and speak to any journalist he wants on top of contractual obligations.

I've never swayed on this like, it's better that Carver and Stone are gone but who gives a f***. A thoroughly underwhelming appointment that will achieve the fat w*****'s aims and nowt else. If the football's a touch better then great, because I've wondered for a while why I watch it every week now. Still thoroughly disinterested compared to previously and that interest will only decrease while we voluntarily tread water, and this decision's very much part of that.

This is the thing. If he was solid in interviews, honest and didn't use the memories of club legends to further his cause there'd be some sympathy. That would be the case, even if the results were bad, but just a little bit less terrible than they actually were. What happened though was shameless pandering from him, saying the club would back him, that people were watching over him etc. Then he made every incorrect tactical call in the book, played multiple players out of position at all times and lost almost every game. He was rubbish at the job, made the club even more of a laughing stock and still thought he was owed the job somehow just because he was here a long time. He even seemed to talk about it like the job was his. There's no sympathy from me here, because even though I could forgive him being incompetent to some degree, I can't forgive the way he acted in the job.

His fault was having his tongue so far up this regime's arse that he failed to realise he will be shafted just like we all have been for years. He can spend the rest of his life with the bitter aftertaste...
-
On the flip side, it shows that they were willing to pay off the idiots after all, so that makes it even more baffling that out off all the candidates they have gone for McClaren.
-
Haha, yes! Good to see Carver's gamble backfired. He should really have done the honourable thing in January and told the club he wasn't up for the job and they should instead go after a proper manager. A fan of the club my arse. Fuck off and don't let the door hit you on your way out you moron.
