Arsenal 1-0 up.. -
It's what Mourinho said - both of Europe's best teams are out in the semi finals after having had to play there most important game of the season (El Clasico) on the weekend just between the semi finals. So, the final will be contested of the B-Teams of Bayern and Chelsea - 2nd and 5th of their respective leagues.
-
Funny how the CHAMPIONS league final this year will be contested by two teams who have been nowhere near the strongest team in their own domestic league.

Pardew and Carver on BBC radio Newcastle (old thread)
Unbelievable replied to SUPERTOON's topic in Football
Not sure about that, he's been pretty much ever present under Pardew. That's more by default than anything. I'm 100% certain we'll sign a right back during this coming window, whether Simpson stays or not. I agree that we'll sign a right back but I don't think it's been by default at all that he's kept his place. We know he likes Perch at full back, we know he likes Santon there, Gutierrez there, even Ryan Taylor there, we've gone through nearly half a dozen players at left back yet on the other side, despite all of those players being naturally right sided, Simpson has remained a constant, even in the cups. I know you don't like him as a footballer but what he has been very good at in general this season is exactly what Pardew likes from his defence - keeping a solid shape and knowing where to be positionally. Our defensive record is one of the best in the league if you discount the two or three aberrations we've had on the road. We've kept more clean sheets than we have for a long time and Simpson, along with Krul, has been a constant factor in that. Good post. -
Will we qualify for the Champions League? Sadly not...

Erik Pieters will be having an operation to his foot, which rules him out for 9 weeks at least, meaning he misses the start of the new season. He's resigned to not getting his move abroad this summer. Source: http://www.vi.nl/nieuws/220773/Pieters-kiest-voor-operatie-en-mist-start-nieuw-seizoen.htm

Why would Sunderland not stand a chance? They could offer first team football and if they're willing to match his wage demands (which is what I think this will come down to) I don't see why it's such a ludicrous suggestion.. Because they are s*** and going nowhere, if he wants to improve himself as a footballer then surely he will completely blank them? This time last season we were "shite" if finishing mid table is what you call "shite". Didn't stop us from signing some bloody good players did it? We're talking Junior Hoilett here, not Lionel fucking Messi. Anyway, as with most free agents, I think his decision will primarily be finance based, so I don't think we have a particularly great chance of signing him as we'd probably not be willing to offer more than squad wages.

He's not likely to stay at Feyenoord. He took an emotional farewell to the fans and the players some week ago. He wants to take the next step in his career. Agreed, can't see him staying at Feyenoord as much as I'd like to see it happen.
