They won't. They've brought in too much quality, albeit at premium fees. They'll finish midtable comfortably in my opinion.

I'd guess if one of Taylor/Colo is injured then Perch and Willo would be swapped depending on who we play. Perch against Defo made much better sense than Willo. However, Willo will play if we're up against a taller strike partnership (see Nowrich). Agreed. Perch is decent back up for Colo, but wouldn't want to see the both of them up against somebody like Adebayor or Carroll. Colo (Perch) and Taylor (Williamson) for now. We will get by without another centre back, definitely, but if we want to really challenge for CL and compete in all the cups this season bringing in somebody like Douglas for a reasonable fee would make sense, especially as he might have plenty of resale value if he lives up to his potential in the Premiership, making him a typical Ashley signing.

That compilation Is it wrong to think we could have qualified for CL last season if Pardew had stopped the Obertan experiment earlier and just given Hatem the chance like so many of us fans were screaming out for?

Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reporting today that Douglas to Fulham is a done deal. The move will be done next week when the 5 year deadline has passed.. De Telegraaf on the other hand are quoting Twente chairman Munsterman as saying they haven't received a bid from Fulham and any reports about a fee being agreed are false..

Just the Daily Fail, but still: Spenderland! Don't know why lots of people on here are talking as if it's a done deal we're not going to (up our) bid and he's practically signed for Fulham. They've agreed a fee, there's every chance we will make our move if we're serious about our interest in him. At least now we know Twente are willing to deal for what appears to be a reasonable transfer fee.

This basically. Been put off him ever since he said that, prob a very good player but hard to be very fussed about a guy talking us down before anythings happened. Who says he's turned us down? if he has then i agree with you but as far as i'm aware Fulham are the only ones who have had an offer accepted by Twente. Not saying he has turned us down, just that he was talking us down & suggesting he was potentially "bigger" than our club via comparison with another side whos offer is currently nonexistant. Either way, completely stupid thing to say. How dare a player looking for a move say bigger clubs have expressed an interest than the one he is being asked about? I say stone the f***er! You dont think its stupid to suggest you can do better than an interested club if you want to keep your options open? Maybe not the smartest thing to say, I agree, but hardly a reason to give him a pass when he's available and an upgrade on what we have.

Don't understand what's so funny tbh. We need cover in the cb area more than we need another fullback now. Saying £4.6m is nothing. Its a pretty laughable statement in any context. For a target we identified a while ago to help us strengthen in a position we really need. €5.5m to improve our team isn't a great deal. So he is better than Saylor/Colo? Disagree he will strengthen the team rather than the squad in a way that a Simpson replacement would. People were talking about him starting games in Saylors place on this forum ffs. If we can guarantee our four cbs can deal with the increased volume of games without a long term injury, yeah, f*** it it's fine to go into this season with Colo, Saylor, Willo and Perch. In case of injury yeah, not many have seen enough to honestly say he should start ABOVE Saylor ffs. Love how you now change the point to Douglas or nothing rather than this individual deal being the case in point. The club seemingly think the fee is too much for a player who probably would be a squad player, thats enough for me tbh. It's great if we've got other targets lined up. As I've said from his reputation I don't think the money is too much. Wasnt aware he had such a huge reputation, i dare say 99% of people here havent seen too much of him but i know the club has so their judgement is enough for me if they decide the fee is too much for him. The club have already made it clear as to how they judge the player, seeing as they've bid for him and Pardew has gone on record that he's a target. I can't speak for annybody else, but I've seen plenty of him and as far as I am concerned (I am not a qualified scout) Douglas represents an update on Taylor, and that's not being disrespectful to Taylor either. Of course, he would have to prove himself and fight his way into the first team, but the quality is definitely there to do just that. That's what I meant earlier by missing out. I would be disappointed if we didn't get him because he chose Fulham (or any other club) over us, but it would be much more crushing if we didn't even bid for him and let him go to a rival top 10 Premiership team for such a comparatively low fee (not in absolute terms, but relative to his level of quality).

If he goes there we're missing out, it's as simple as that.. Not really. Yes really

Get your ass in gear Dekka

What makes you think Douglas would be a disruptive influence? The only dodgy incident people keep referring to when it comes to his mental state was when he went berserk after being sent off when the opposition player dived.

Ah, I see. I thought it was odd the Chelsea players had 2 matches showing. Live and learn I suppose. -
Is he going to unveil his new disappearing trick? Hopefully yes, and reappear on the doorsteps of SJP.

28th of August is the magic date by the way according to a FC Twente forum.

The quote from the FC Twente chairman doesn't insinuate they've received new bids. Keep licking Lee!
-
I wouldn't.

I've always thought we have some sort of agreement in place to move for him after his Dutch national team issue deadline has expired. It's been way too quiet with regards to him, a class act in the final year of his contract who has frequently expressed a desire to move to a stronger league. Really hope we get him.

Hmm, got 5 points added for Vidic and Pienaar, but still Ramires in the team with 0 points and not my first sub (Ben Arfa). I am new to this, but am I right in thinking a player who has not featured should be replaced by the sub? Should change at the end of the game week, which is after Chelsea vs Reading. Thanks for clarifying! Is this conditional based on Ramires featuring in their midweek game? -

Knew this wasn't over! Bring him in, then try for Debuchy and if at all possible add a striker (Carroll on a loan on the last day of the transfer window?) and our squad would be as good as it can get for a non-CL team.

Fantastic result for them, not so much us..

Lucky Everton there
