  1. David O'Leary has told Sky Sports News he would consider taking up the vacant managerial role at Newcastle United if he was approached by the club. The Tyneside outfit have been without a boss since Kevin Keegan parted company with the Premier League club at the beginning of September. Chris Hughton has been placed in caretaker charge of the side, but this week Terry Venables emerged as a potential candidate for the position on a short-term basis. However, ex-England boss Venables has ruled himself out of the running due to the uncertainty surrounding the ownership at St James' Park. Glenn Hoddle has also been touted as a potential interim successor to Keegan, but he has yet to voice his stance on the matter. Former Leeds United and Aston Villa manager O'Leary, though, has intimated that he would look into taking such an opportunity. But O'Leary, who has been out of management since he left Villa in 2006, confirmed that he has yet to receive a formal offer from the club.
  2. “As far as Nacho Gonzalez is concerned, he does have an Achilles problem, but it is not a big problem . “But he will not be involved against Blackburn Rovers at St James’s Park tomorrow when our squad will be the same as it was for Wednesday night, apart from Oba Martins.” http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/09/26/obafemi-martins-suffers-knee-injury-heartache-72703-21906997/
  3. Mike Ashley to oversee NUFC manager hunt Sep 26 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE United owner Mike Ashley will take charge personally of the task of finding an interim manager at St James’s Park after being snubbed by Terry Venables last night. It has to be said that it is a humiliating snub for United, which only increases talk that they are the laughing stock of football. And I understand after his recruitment team of Dennis Wise and Tony Jimenez have failed to come up with a replacement for Kevin Keegan – either in the short or long- term – Ashley will now do it his way. As a result, the names of those managers, or should it be ex-managers, who are currently not in a position at a club will crop up. Big names like Glenn Hoddle, George Graham, Frank Rijkaard, Alan Curbishley and Roberto Mancini. Wise was pictured alongside Dave Bassett when Watford entertained Reading at Vicarage Road on Saturday and probably had a little laugh at the goal that never was. But nobody on Tyneside is laughing at the moment as United continue to lurch from one crisis to another. If Wise and Jimenez have exhausted their list of candidates, Ashley could even listen to his managing director Derek Llambias, who is a personal friend of David O’Leary. O’Leary left for a family holiday yesterday in America, but he would be willing to get straight back on a plane if he got a call from Llambias. Whoever does come in, either in the short or long-term, will find some, if not a lot, of hostility from the United fans, who in the main only want one man – Kevin Keegan. But like him or loathe him, at least O’Leary has to bottle to say he would be prepared to come into one of the hottest seats in football. Venables was not prepared to, even though there is a slim chance that the former England boss will change his mind over the weekend. United fans ave every right to look at tomorrow’s game and worry if Blackburn Rovers will pull off their fourth win on the bounce at St James’s Park. Rovers boss Paul Ince, who was on United’s shortlist for a full time manager a couple of weeks ago, will be aware of this. But what he probably won’t know is that two of those United defeats at the hands of Blackburn were the beginning of the end for Graeme Souness and Glenn Roeder.
  4. Viduka is finished and Martins runs with his head down into blind alleys. martins might as well have his own ball as he's never gonna pass to anyone else. I've been saying Viduka is finished before we signed him, but i remember those slimline pics of him in training, he looked half the size he was, was hoping that Viduka was a more mobile Viduka and could be a useful asset to the team. I know its a massive ask mind, especially when everything is going tits up right now. completely forgot about Viduka until you mentioned him
  5. nope, definitely had worse than this.......still early doors luckily but we need to get all this sorted asap before it`s definitely too late ffs
  6. Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins will be out for six weeks after suffering a severe reaction to his knee injury after playing against Spurs on Wednesday. The 23-year-old played all 90 minutes of the 2-1 defeat but his knee is now badly swollen and he told The Sun: 'I can’t contemplate how long I will be out for. 'The swelling only started on Thursday morning. I didn’t feel anything after the game. I just woke up and saw how terrible and bad it looked. 'I have been told by the doctors here that I could be out for another six weeks, but when they said ‘could’ - you know it’s bad.' Second-bottom Toon host Blackburn tomorrow without six first-team players. Martins added: 'I want to play a part in helping the club at this difficult moment. I feel so down.' Loan midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez has been ruled out until February with an Achilles problem.
  7. and the circus continues........from tribal$hite /Daily Mail...... Ex-Wimbledon boss Bassett linked with Newcastle job 26.09.08 | tribalfootball.com Dave Bassett is being linked with a shock return to top-flight football. The former Wimbledon boss is in the frame for the Newcastle United job thanks to his connection to Dennis Wise, says the Daily Mail.
  8. the Mail says he`s going to have a scan first so not really 100% confirmed he`s definitely out for the next month/6 weeks.......not keeping my hopes up like http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-1062293/El-Tel-says-100k-game-search-goes-troubled-Newcastle.html?ITO=1490
  9. bye then Fuckoff middleclass c*** what are you still doing here?
  10. talking some sense tbf ----------- Toon's not a job for just two weeks THERE is one reason and one reason alone why I’ve turned down the chance to take temporary charge at Newcastle — time. Newcastle United means too much to too many people to take the job on a short-term basis. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1736458.ece
  11. Taylor: I know I let the fans down Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor admitted he feels guilty for their Carling Cup third round exit by Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday. Taylor was at fault for Spurs' winner in the 2-1 win at St James' Park and confessed his disappointment at their early exit from the competition. "I blame myself," the 22-year-old told BBC Radio Newcastle. "It was a mistake, it shouldn't have happened and I hold my hands up and apologise to everybody." The loss comes as Newcastle find themselves on a dismal run of four defeats going back to late August, and Taylor has urged his team-mates to pull out of the slump with Saturday's visit of Blackburn Rovers. "The last few weeks have been very difficult, and everybody knows we're going through a difficult time at the moment," he said. "As players we've got to stand up and be counted, it's important we don't sulk and feel bad about ourselves. "We're paid to do a job and we've got to do that properly and Saturday will be a massive game for us." Whitley Bay-born Taylor has been with the Magpies since joining the club's academy as a schoolboy and has made nearly 150 appearances since making his debut in March 2004. hmm, i thought he was born down cockney land aye Greenwich, London
  12. might be very temporary if this Nigerian takeover is completed and Keegan is installed as boss again as they said. Venners in the job for 2 days tops then?
  13. Terry Venables has been contacted by Newcastle about becoming their new boss. (Various) Venables is set for talks with the Magpies and will let them know on Thursday whether he wants to become their caretaker manager. (Daily Mirror) Despite the uncertainty over the future ownership of the club, Newcastle hope to lure Venables by offering him a short-term deal, and paying him accordingly as a fire-fighter. (The Independent) The Magpies have also contacted another former England manager, Glenn Hoddle, about the post. (The Times) Newcastle's current owner Mike Ashley hopes to announce a successor to Kevin Keegan before Saturday's home game against Blackburn. (The Times) Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet, Blackburn boss Paul Ince and former French international Didier Deschamps are no longer in the frame for the St James' Park post. (The Times)
  14. we could do with Eileen Drewery to sort out the injuries
  15. Dramatically improved squad though. Dave that's cheeky but not a fair comment. The only reason Butt is playing is because both Guthrie and Barton are suspended and for whatever reason, Houghton just refuse to play Nacho. As far as I'm concerned, our 'perillously thin' squad makes him 4th line and that's good enough for me. Nacho has been carrying an injury in the last week or so which I presume is why he wasn`t involved tonight
  16. The former England boss told The Sun: “I can confirm I met Newcastle representatives today. Those talks will continue in the morning when, hopefully, I can give them a final decision.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1731955.ece
  17. the new Desailly tbh but seriously, would like to see Colo and Bassong in the centre as already mentioned in the thread
  18. don`t know much else about them......don`t think they even have a wikipedia page about them (?)
  19. Taylor in another battlecry in todays Chron http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/09/24/taylor-believes-team-owes-the-supporters-72703-21890340/
