  2. Dalglish was furious as he had set up a deal to buy another player with the Gillespie fee. wonder who that was......Ray Houghton?
  3. thank fk for that Dalglish rules out Newcastle return http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/sep/23/newcastleunited
  4. well he`s off to Uzbekistan to coach Rivaldo and a few other South Americans........and of course they`re paying him millions more than he would get in Europe which helps http://uk.reuters.com/article/worldFootballNews/idUKB16437420080922
  5. NUFC owner Ashley calls in football's Mr Fixit Sep 22 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle MIKE ASHLEY has called in football’s top Mr Fixit to help him sell Newcastle United. And Ashley and his team of Dennis Wise and Tony Jimenez will sit down on Thursday and have a look at the managerial situation – after the Carling Cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur at St James’s Park. The Chronicle revealed on Tuesday that Ashley was on the verge of calling in former Football League chairman Keith Harris, who now holds a similar position with top City investment bank Seymour Pierce, to find a buyer for the club. And after having no luck in Dubai, Ashley has now put the situation into the hands of the man who brokered the deals that saw Russian Roman Abramovich installed at Chelsea and American Randy Lerner take over at Aston Villa. And my information is that, despite inaccurate reports Ashley was asking for £480m in Dubai, the United owner will be happy to get back the money he invested in United – around £200m. Keith Harris usually does not mess around and there has to be a good chance that he can come up with a buyer in the near future. It has to be remembered that when Mike Ashley bought Sir John Hall out a year gone May, everything was sorted out in just 24 hours But reports that a Nigerian consortium is ready to pay £350m for United will have to be taken with a pinch of salt. It’s no secret that while Ashley has been trying to sell United, there has been no progress on either a short-term or permanent manager to replace Kevin Keegan. And certainly reports that eight managers have turned United down could not be wider of the mark. For United have NOT offered the job to anyone. Indeed, headlines yesterday saying Terry Venables had turned Ashley down to answer an SOS were not correct. As reported in the Chronicle on Saturday night, I spoke to the former England boss on Friday night and he said that he has not been approached by United and saw no point in discussing the matter any further. Now the latest name being linked with United is their former boss Kenny Dalglish. The only consolation for United is that Wednesday’s opponents are in a worse state than they are on the field, with Spurs having made their worst start to a season for 34 years.
  6. yep, defensive negative football, sideways passing like in the old Dalglish days at NUFC.....we played some of the most boring negative football I`ve witnessed when that muppet was in charge (when he brought in his own players) Sigh..... he completely destroyed that team when all that was needed was 2 decent centre halves :'( If only Sir Bobby hadn`t turned us down that time for his loyalty to Barca how things might have turned out different
  7. STEVEN Taylor has hit back at reports he is heading for the St James's Park exit door. The Newcastle United defender was today tipped to lead a January transfer window exodus, despite having just signed a new four-year contract. A report this morning claimed 11 players – including Taylor, Michael Owen, Shay Given and Mark Viduka – want to quit in the wake of Kevin Keegan's departure. But Taylor, in the Newcastle side beaten 3-1 by West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday, is adamant his future is on Tyneside, despite the turmoil which is engulfing the club. He told the Gazette: "I don't know where this has come from – it's news to me. "I'm happy at Newcastle United – I wouldn't have committed my future here if I wasn't. "I just want the fans to know the players are hurting and desperate to turn things around. "They've been fantastic and got behind us, despite everything that's been going on, and we want to give them something to shout about." Taylor held his hands up after the Upton Park defeat, admitting "sloppy" defending had cost United dearly. West Ham stormed to a 2-0 half-time lead thanks to Italian journeyman David Di Michele. And just eight minutes into the second half Newcastle were dead and buried, after Matthew Etherington added a third. Michael Owen struck back midway through the half, but the game was already lost. Chris Hughton's beleaguered side now go into Wednesday night's Carling Cup tie at home to Tottenham Hotspur on the back of three demoralising Premier League defeats. The sequence has also left United second from bottom of the league. A frustrated Taylor left east London on Saturday replaying the three goals back in his mind, believing he and his team-mates could have done more to stop them. For West Ham's second, Di Michele was given too much time to line up another effort by Taylor after his initial shot rebounded back off goalkeeper Shay Given. "We lost an early goal, and were disappointed with the second," Taylor told the Gazette. "It was in my area. Shay's made a save, and the ball's gone backwards. I've gone back to the line when I should have pushed out to the ball. "I'm used to protecting the goal more than anything. I had a habit of doing that when I was young, and I did it again. "The third goal killed us. We've conceded three sloppy goals, and we've got to put it right. We've only got ourselves to blame. "We're desperately disappointed, but the good thing is we can put it right on Wednesday."
  8. Nacho confident Toon will turn the corner Published Date: 22 September 2008 NACHO Gonzalez tasted defeat for the second time in his fledgling Newcastle career – then insisted it won't be long before his new team gets back to winning ways. Gonzalez – signed on a season-long loan from Valencia – came on late in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to West Ham at Upton Park. The midfielder, 26, had made his debut in the home loss to Hull. Gonzalez said: "It's disappointing for us. Everything that went wrong in the first half cost us so dearly, but in the second half we played much better. "The team showed some spirit in the second half, and we had some chances which could have altered the game. "If we can play like that for the full 90 minutes, we have a great chance of winning some matches."
  9. Like Des Hamilton and Carl Serrant? No thanks. not to mention Garry Brady, ,Bjarni Gudjonsson,Robinson,Coppinger and of course Brian Pinas
  10. thought you`d just made that up and was taking the piss
  11. that might work, plus he`s a free agent
  12. Full write up on the Daily Mail website as well: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1059409/Ashley-wants-Dalglish-succeed-Keegan-second-time.html Gullit's out of a job as well right? So we can sack Dalglish in another month or so and keep the cycle going. and bring Terry Mac back to top it all off
  13. would be happy with Bruce here tbh......bought some cracking players (bar Bambi) in Zaki, Palacios, Valencia for next to nowt and has made Wigan a very competent side. (Martinez is a decent shout too but I doubt our fans would be happy with that.)
  14. Want-away Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is lining up a sensational return for former manager Kenny Dalglish. The ex-Scotland and Liverpool striker took charge at St James's Park after Kevin Keegan left the club back in 1997. (Daily Star)
  15. Doug Ellis had it even worse at Villa with countless protests against him but he didn`t give a $hit either
  16. wonder if he really knows what he`s talking about. You can`t win 20 odd caps plus, current international and play well enough for Valencia to shell out 7m and be that $hit. Hope he gets some chances to play .....rather than getting thrown on when we`re 3 nil down like today
  17. Derek Llambias accused of ‘I'd slap KK’ comment Sep 20 2008 by Adam Jupp, Evening Chronicle http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/nechronical/sep2008/8/3/7F7DEF10-AF6C-48DB-FD3BD3AE0354C75C.jpg NEWCASTLE United chief executive Derek Llambias was at the centre of a ‘slapping’ storm today. The Toon chief executive reportedly said he could have slapped manager Kevin Keegan during talks. The remark revealing the extent of the strained relationships at the club was made as Llambias visited the Middle East with Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise in a bid to sell the club. Ashley is also reported as being insulted with a £200m offer from Gulf businessmen for the club he is trying to offload. A statement released by solicitor Peter Cadman, representing Ashley and Llambias, yesterday said: "Mr Ashley may well have expressed his views that the valuation of the club was too low. "His approach was not to express disinterest in either the views or the opinions of fans. "Mr Llambias does recall saying he was very frustrated by Mr Keegan during a negotiations meeting that he could have slapped him." The Newcastle hierarchy were overheard as they drank Mojito cocktails in a Dubai bar. Llambias is alleged is to have said: "I had to have a third person in the room when I met him otherwise I would have slapped him." Ashley was also said to have described an offer for the club of less than £200m from representatives of Dubai’s Royal Family as an "insult" and snubbed a meeting with them, choosing to stay in the bar with Llambias and Wise instead. It is believed he has set an asking price of £480m – more than double what he spent to buy out the Hall and Shepherd families and wipe out a large chunk of its debt. It is alleged he told Llambias: "I would rather stick with the club than sell at that price. I am not going to sell at a knock-down price." Newcastle United declined to comment on the conversation reported in today’s Daily Mirror. But it is understood Llambias feels the remark was taken out of context. Ashley announced his intention to sell the club on the back of a defeat to Hull City on Saturday when angry fans staged protests before, during and after the game at Keegan’s departure. In a lengthy statement, he told supporters he had "got the message" as he revealed he had ploughed £244m of his own money into the club. But he also said there would be no fire sale. Football finance experts say Ashley will be lucky to recoup that amount through any sale, but that does not appear to have put him off. Sources are now claiming Ashley handed club documents to Dubai- based Zabeel Investments, which stated he wanted no less than $860m – £481m. It is reported he was then told a £200m bid was being lined up, which led to a meeting being arranged at the Mina A’Salam Ramadan Tent, in the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel. It was due to take place at 11pm and Ashley arrived at the nearby Bahri bar more than an hour early, where he began ordering drinks. Witnesses have told the Chronicle he was then joined by Llambias and Wise. Wise and Llambias are said to have left the bar on a number of occasions to take phone calls, while Ashley remained inside chatting to girls. He is then said to have not turned up for the takeover talks. A club spokesman said today: "The remarks have been taken out of context."
  18. it`s good to finally see a player talk about the situation and let us know what`s going on a bit with the players.....would like to see our Captain come out and say something but at least Oba has said Owen is keeping spirits up in the camp
  19. Beardsley backs besieged Ashley By Matt Slater Newcastle legend Peter Beardsley has told Geordie fans to lay off under-fire owner Mike Ashley and thank him for reducing the club's debts. Ashley put Newcastle up for sale this week when protests revealed the extent of his unpopularity. But Beardsley, who enjoyed two great spells as a Newcastle player, believes Ashley has been harshly treated. "He didn't come here to fail and he has put a lot of money into the club, so credit to him," said Beardsley. "Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out but I'm a little bit disappointed he has to walk away. "His heart was in the right place. Maybe he didn't always show it in the right way but I think he really cared about Newcastle." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7625665.stm
  20. We were supposedly after him (Ilunga) also.......your lot got him and also a Uruguayan international left back......we ended up with nowt
  21. what`s gannin on with Lawro? another positive prediction for us this week. Last week he predicted we`d win 2-0 and this week he`s tipped us to get a 1-1...........would much rather he predicts a loss as we always get the kiss of death ------ West Ham vs Newcastle United I see Dean Ashton has got himself crocked in training? That's a real worry for West Ham. The problem for Newcastle is that at the moment, no-one knows what is going on - the coaching staff, the players, everyone. The worst part about that is it gives the players an excuse. In saying that, I'm not sure about West Ham either, as they are under new management in Gianfranco Zola. I'll go for a draw, with no major signs of improvement from either side. Verdict: 1-1 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7614036.stm
  22. tbh, I think they`ve had it worse than us (last season at least) with Parker,Dyer and Bellamy, Ljunberg out for most of the season along with their then new signing Faubert getting crocked for 6 months. Ashton was injured all the time as well........
  23. Ashton out and quite possibly Bellamy.....reason for a little more optimism anyway Hammers set to be without star strikers 8:23am Friday 19th September 2008 http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/sport/localsport/3686258.Hammers_set_to_be_without_star_strikers/
