Santon's a different case as I think they are still a little worried about the watery knee. It's the only reason I can think of why he is being played sparingly.
-
What Pards has cunningly done is insinuate that Hatem is a luxury player who doesn't contribute to the defensive side of things. It's like saying an apple isn't an orange..I only play oranges..Or summink.

That's a redundant comparison. Neither of them had a player of Ben Arfa's type to leave on the bench. ginola and robert spring to mind. Both were simply too good to leave on the bench in any situation. Robert especially had the type of game that didn't rely on those around him. Ginola = always played by Keegan. Dropped by Dalglish. Robert = always played by Sir Bobby. Dropped by Souness. Zog = told to fuck off by JFK. IMO there's an obvious pattern here, irrespective of whether these players being dropped improved the team or not in the short term (in the long term it didn't). I.e. that s*** managers who focus too much on the defense will drop a quality but unpredictable flair player because it's the easy thing to do, especially as soon as there's a slight dip in form. They aren't concerned with what these players bring to the team, only what they don't bring. Hence, that's what makes them s*** managers, unlike the good managers who'll take the risk (and the bad along with the good) because they have the balls and the courage as managers to do so. Pardew falls into the "s***" camp for me atm because he did the exact same thing with Tevez that he's seemingly doing with Ben Arfa. West Ham fans (much like ours) were regularly calling for Tevez to be played because Zamora/Harewood/Cole were all s*** and had them struggling badly. After Pardew was sacked for being a t***, Curbishley came in and did what the fans wanted, and whadayaknow? They immediately had one of the best playmaking forwards in the league playing for them, instead of the Championship standard stodge Pardew had put his faith in. If Pardew was smart enough he'd learn from that absolute and undeniable mistake, a mistake that would have had his team relegated and a world class star player wasting away for no reason on the bench (had he not been sacked), and apply it here with Ben Arfa. If he does, then good on him - if he doesn't then it'll only highlight why he had to resort to being a desperate, recently unemployed League One manager whoring himself in Casinos as a footballing f***-buddy for footballing philistines like Ashley and Llambias. GO Window cleaner, Sunday footballer...slogging it out in South London parks...Drinking in Croydon..80's football...Prozone..Average left back...Oversaw West Hams worst run of defeats in the clubs history(2006/07)....Sacked. Went to Charlton (relegated) then FINISHED IN THE BOTTOM 3 OF THE FIRST DIVISION.. Sacked (Nov 2008). 2009: SOUTHAMPTON: Five months later Pardew was dismissed by the club[22][23] amidst reports of low staff morale and conflicts between Pardew and club chairman, Nicola Cortese.[24][25] 2010 The dunce miraculously takes over at Newcastle United.

If he doesn't get a run in the side he'll be off in the summer and who can really blame him?
-
I've been saying for weeks now that Pards is now playing 80's football. We very rarely play through the middle and the ball is hit vast distances and hence we put ourselves under pressure through lack of posession. Every long pass becomes a 50/50.
-
It'll be a real shame if Hatem gets forced out cause of Pardew's obsession with VHS and other brilliant things from the 80's like long ball.
-
It's come from Pardews brain. A brain living inside 80's porn.

Carroll's whole career is nearly over.

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has claimed that fans of former club Liverpool ‘don’t know the truth’ behind his move to Stamford Bridge. The Spain international also accused the Reds’ owners, Fenway Sports Group, of breaking promises. Torres left Anfield in a 50-million-pound deal in January, a move that has made him an unpopular figure among the supporters that idolised him during his time at the Merseyside club. Torres claims there was more to the transfer than meets the eye, however, saying Reds fans ‘don’t know’ what their club’s owners are like. “The Liverpool fans don’t know the truth about why I signed for Chelsea,” he told Spanish television station Canal+ Liga. “The fans don’t even know half of what happened. They don’t know what the people in charge at Liverpool are like – they have a completely different perception of what they are like.” “They made promises that they didn’t keep and I left because I realised I didn’t have time to be part of a project that would take years.”

If they get Bent then it's back burner time for Carroll.

Trying desperately to keep his re-sale value up.

Expect Stoke, Fulham and Everton to come out of that pack at us 2nd half of the season and we could well finish below those 3 if we don't get our shit together.

4 points from the last 18 with the same system that got us something like 26 from 39? Forget about the past. Football is constantly in flux the same side with the same system can play badly for as long a period as they've played well. Players form changes, little things stop working, confidence levels change. The defence is primarily responsible for the good start imo. That has been shot to s*** (injuries) now along with errors creeping into Krul's game. Things continue to change week to week. The art of management is to spot these things, be proactive, try new things. Jonas has been poor for a while now, Obertan has been terrible from the off and Simpson cotinues to give the ball away with his 'little chips into nobody'... The long balls have crept in over the last few weeks. Forget the past. Forget the past. Stop going on about the past. Means nothing now. I agree with that to be fair. You've basically just agreed that we have lost form and confidence as a result though, might I add. We've lost form cause the failings haven't been addressed early enough/ there seems to be no other plan. Well if it's taken 5 defeats when we've played everyone I think it's not exactly a shite state of affairs. Especially since we have played 4 or 5 of the big 6 or 7 in the last 9 or ten games. On the other hand we need to beat QPR and Fulham and stop the rot so to speak. The sooner we reach 'safety' (even though we're safe already) then hopefully we'll see a greater emphasis on attack and not defence. Forget about the past.

The team isn't out of form the system has become too static with too much fear.
-
The only thing I can think about the ridiculous Santon scenario is that his knee isn't upto stating every week. There is literally no reason he should be behind either fullback.
-
If even only one of the fullbacks could pass or one of the wingers was actually consistently dangerous it would make a vast difference to the side.

Thanks to you and all the mods for all your time and work behind the curtain.

He's away filming Prometheus.
