  1. Doesn't seem to be doing France much good. Their squad is coming to the end of a very good 10 year cycle. It will be replenished as new talent steps up. It's the new players who are underperforming, tbh. Well they reached the final in 2006 and won it in 1998. They are now going through a period of replacing Viera, Henry, Zidane, Thuram, Barthez etc...It will take a few years till the new team takes shape.
  2. Doesn't seem to be doing France much good. This technique thing is a red herring. France, like you say, is a perfect example. They have technically gifted players capable of maintaining possession, playing through the middle yadda yadda. They're just playing very very badly. There is a problem with the coach and the players.

  4. Thing is we didn't have a center of excellence or whatever it's called till two years ago. Italy and France have world class set ups to bring the right knowledge and skill to the players and have had them in place for a decade or more. Every kid in Holland grows up learing to play the system the national side and Ajax play, they start at 12 or summink...Germany's preperation is second to none.
  5. Love Ian Wrights enthusiasm. Spot on, especially about the Wayne Rooney looking bored thing.
  6. Capello is one of the best managers in the world, the problem lies with the players, they seem to be in some kind of coccon where if they aren't humping the likes of Burnley or Wigan (helped by a team of costly foreign players), they don't really seem to know how to make things happen. it lies 75% players, 25% manager, capello's tactics are just sooo italian, try to contain the opposition and hope we nick a goal, it's rubbish and i won't buy into the fact he's untouchable! he picks the team, and the blame ultimely lies with him Not much he can do if half the side seem to have no first touch or ability to shoot or keep the ball for more than two passes. Shooting and passing is down to tactics though, they contained us well and closed down, something needs to be done to break that. He couldn't think of anything, swapping Lennon for SWP isn't going to change things, its more of the same. Face it, the guy isn't getting it right. If the wings are blocked then the team has to play through the middle, but English players don't really have the technique or nous to play cleverly through the middle. Nobody has mentioned the left as far as I can see yet. How the fuck can you be expected to play through the middle when you don't have two wingers and/or fullbacks pulling the Algerian defence as far wide as possible? And while Gerrard is roaming about clogging up the space that Lampard and Rooney should be using? Ashley Cole is a very, very good attacking left-back. He couldn't do a fucking thing yesterday because he never had anything in front of him. Our fullbacks are two of our best bets for creating something and offering an outlet with pace and direct running, while Barry holds in front of the two central defenders, but Cole in particular has been totally neutered by the formation. The left is the problem, again. He's either going to have to grow some stones and drop Lampard for Joe Cole (I like Lamps, but there's no way Gerrard will be dropped), to stick with his 4-4-2, or he's going to have to push Gerrard up behind Rooney and bring Cole in for Heskey to go to the vogue (and often effective) 4-1-4-1/4-2-3-1/4-5-1 system that looks our best bet on paper. We have no penetration on either flank, in reality, but if the left is built-up with a partnership then it should allow the right a lot more space to work with (as we saw at Newcastle when Routledge arrived). Adam Johnson should definitely be there, as well. I could have even stomached Downing to have a left-footer as an option. EDIT: Just saw Ozzie mention it directly before me. Good post. Cole is totally wasted, but I was thinking in the Italian style the full backs aren't encouraged to come up too much, but you've shown the real issue.
  7. The whole organisation has duck for brains. Find the quacking solve the problem.

He's not one of the best managers in the world if he cannot motivate his players and help them handle the pressure of a big tournament. End of the day he picked the squad, he's picked the two teams and he made the subs, its his fault we are where we are, just as much as the players. He needs to go. There isn't that much to pick from, I say that every world cup. The problem with people living in England is that they watch sky for two weeks swallow all the hype and then start blaming everything but the players. There's enough though, certainly enough to be doing better than this. That last sentence hasn't really got anything to do with anything here tbf, I'll put it down to Parkymongering. Bascially having lived away from England for most of the last 5 years I can see with fresh eyes how deluded we are about almost everything, all stoked up by a predatory popular media. Basically most of the England players are too cosetted at their clubs, surrounded by money, cars, big tits, diamonds, slavering club TV, boot sponsors, agents living in Monaco, carpet slippers, rub downs, microwave cooking, Big Brother, easy games against 2/3 of the PL who can't spend on foreign talent, reading difficulties, poor football brains (if brains at all), mooning, beer gardens, greasy food...Then like some miracle we expect these deluded players to put down those papers they are reading about how great they are and perform against national sides where appearing at a world cup is actually a higlight of their career and not something interfearing with summer holidays.

  13. The glaring thing was 3/4 of the team were scared of the fucking ball! They should really have been using that ball toward the end of the PL season for 10 games or something. Rooney couldn't seem to control it at all.
  14. One glaring thing was the lack of full back overlapping and midfield penetration. One of the midfielders has to get into the box all the time.
  15. [shadow=red, left][move]TELL THEM THAT THEY ARE ALL FUCKING SHIT.[/move][/shadow]
  16. The main thing that stood out for me is that the team has no descision makers. It was just pass it anywhere and run aroujd a bit.
  17. There was a distinct lack of balls about the operation.
  18. Something needs to be done. All the girls in the kitchen had diamonds on and shit.
  19. They are just mentally not at the races, slow to 50-50 balls, no vision, unable to hold the ball and pick a pass, no appreciation of space or what the opp are doing and no real idea how to play the percentages when things are going wrong. They play for PL clubs but more often than not in the sides they play, a foreign player is doing the thinking for them.
  20. James will start tonight. Good result for us that draw.
  21. They looked shocked they didn't get away with their niggling tactical fouling all game as they normally do.
  22. Talk about a bad loser. Lowe is a disgrace.
  23. The Yugolav Marin and the Brazilian Cacau come on for Germany.
  24. The Polish born Podolski misses pen for Germany.
