  1. YOu're wrong it's actually to bring about world peace. But I suppose you've got a gripe about that as well. Depends how they go about it to be honest. I believe NUSCs plan is to start in Iraq and they already have a banner made up with Abd ar-Rahman al-Haydari al Gillani out. Broadly they have my agreement as under Saddam Iraq was on a par with the big hitters in the region including Iran and Syria with foreign excursions aplenty. He may have led the country to the brink of bankruptcy chasing the dream of foreign annexation but there is no evidence that he would have led the country to a collapse similar to Yemen. One calamitous purchase of a first strike capability Owenjazeera Scudd III did for the dreams.
  2. And to keep up the "NUFC fans are mongs" sentiments in the papers/on the tv - wouldn't want to let those get away. Can you link me to the most recent example of that please? The Keegan protest? Thats pretty recent. Cockney Mafia Banner? Is that recent enough? NUSC had nothing to do with the Cockney Mafia Out banner. There was a banner which said something like that (can't remember) and had the NUSC logo on it which is a rip off of the one in the era of the old silver away strip circa Chris Waddle etc. Was that the "No more geordie cash for Ashley" one? Something like that - can't really remember - same sentiments different words. True enough, but for some reason it hasn’t attracted any of the criticism the Cockney Mafia Out banner has - why do you think that is? The departure of KK created the energy needed to get a supporters group up and running. That it still has a distinct anti Ashley slant a few months after the catalyst for it’s formation is inevitable. There simply hasn’t been enough time for it to evolve into something a bit more rounded. However, if you think a supporters club is a good idea this is the best chance we’ll ever have of having one. Good point about the dynamic of what goes from an initial catalyst (KK leaving) and slowly over time becomes more all encompassing. It will happen with or without some of the dingo's on here.
  3. YOu're wrong it's actually to bring about world peace. But I suppose you've got a gripe about that as well. Is that the sound of the bottom of a barrel being scraped? Parky man, have you really resorted to comments like that in some vain effort to try and stick up for these fools? Vain effort?
  4. so why are they defending and backing Ashley ? Don't say they aren't, because they are. Thing is Dave, the point I made a few years ago on numerous occasions "replacing the current directors with someone of similar calibre will be more difficult than people think" still stands, but they still defend Ashley. They should realise now that their unhappiness with the last regime was badly misplaced. I find it particularly sad that people are scorning the approach which gave them all those european qualifications, champions league run, stadium expansion, and the top quality footballers we signed that got us there in the first place, in favour of financial prudency when the same situation applied when Bobby Robson was manager and they were happy enough with what followed later through backing him. the key word here is approach. the approach was of spend now worry later, which has gotten us into a mess. so given that the finances are in such a mess, thanks to the old board, why is it surprising that people are scorning it? its completely deserving of scorn. you scorned the champions league qualifications ? Spending big is the only way to get there. absolutely not. but the champions league qualifications were a result of the big spending, had it been big spending that was manageable then there'd be no need for scorn, but it wasnt manageable, it was reckless. and thats why we are where we are. ah, now. I was one of the few people on here who urged caution when loads of posters were urging the club to "splash the cash" after every defeat, and to back Souness, because they said he would get it right just like Alex Ferguson did at ManU. Probably the same people who are now condemning this approach for what it caused. But I don't do hindsight, thats for others, so are denying u-turns and double standarsds. Fact is, whatever the circumstance, you don't succeed in football without spending. I don't want the club to behave like the charltons of this world and - having the 17th biggest turnover [courtesy of the last regime, and down from 14th since Ashley came in, a downturn which will continue and will drop significantly if nothing is done to arrest it] I think it is not the course we should be taking either. 17th biggest turnover. i wonder how many of those numbered 1 to 16 run at a loss even with those turnovers ? For the 10 millionth time half the PL are in debt and most struggle to cover player wages. FACT.

The media in England have been very sympathetic to the NUSC. You can read the articles on the NUSC site.

I find it harder to read with the black background and white and blue text.
  9. Old goldenball, I heard he was lethal in the showers. mackems.gif
  10. Given the hysteria surrounding his arrival from both Spurs supporters & the media & then the amount of time he lasted he should be pretty near the top of the list IYAM. He won them a trophy in his first season in charge and they sold his first choice strikers for him in the summer. Not too mention he weren't in charge of players purchased and he couldn't speak English properly. You forget the demolition of Arsenal and the football they played? His name shouldn't be there, it's a ridiculous inclusion. These are often the most beautiful inclusions.

  12. And all those def doing coaching badges and then having problems as managers. Actually reading up on the Scolari fallout, he was lamenting how little time he had (due to no of games) to work with the players, especially the midfield. In Brazil apparently they work with the midfield long and hard with 11 a side games.
  13. Flop? Flop? History. História!
  14. So do I. I reckon it's one of the best football experiences in the world. I saw some of the DFB Pokal games a couple of years ago - the 4-3 against Hertha was amazing. Loved the old Clubheim which was attached to the stadium before the new stand was built and seeing the players and management mixing with the fans after the match was a bit special. There was a Newcastle United stained glass (some other clubs too) in one of the windows for some reason ? A great city and a great club. A couple of Wbeers down the Schanze viertel - aaah ! Good club. Decent people.
  15. Haven't seen them but people say they are a good passing side.
  16. Where does it say Spurs in the thread title? Just so happens loads have been at Spurs. [wink/]
  17. Tried to do too much? Bought foreign friends on massive wages. The Italian way.
  18. You ever go Ozzie? I can't remember if you're in Berlin... You ever go Ozzie? I can't remember if you're in Berlin... Yeah, I'm in Berlin. When I first lived here, late '80s, me and a bunch of mates used to go to watch Blau-Weiss 90, who had come out of nowhere, got up to the 1. Bundesliga, and at that point were in the 2. Bundesliga and on their way back to oblivion. Once they'd disappeared, some of my friends started travelling to see St Pauli every weekend, and though I never went with them, it always sounded like a really good club. In recent years I've been to quite a few Hertha games, but I find I simply don't like the club at all, although I like the bunch of people I sit with. Didn't go to a single game this season or last. I've also tried Tennis Borussia, but I couldn't get into that either, and Turkiyemspor, the Turkish team, who are probably the most interesting of the bunch, but have outgrown their original small stadium, which is near where I live, and now play their matches way across town. Too far to bother with given that I don't know anyone else who is interested. FC Union are kind of off my radar altogether. Football in Berlin is basically crap. Was planning to come to Hamburg some time in the not-too-distant future to see an old Newcastle friend who now lives in Altona, and we've been talking about going to see St Pauli then. Let me know when you're around.

  20. Get well Joe. But give this game it clearly won't do you any good.
  21. Thinkers make good managers, none of these are really thinkers bar Platt for me. THIS is the crucial point - people like Venables and Graham were thinkers and had a bit of know-how ; most of the names on this list were just decent players who hadn't had to work hard to earn vast amounts of money from the game...if you take the likes of Fergie and MON into the equation, it looks different..I KNOW they aren't 'English', but maybe that says something about the English education system since the 70's....! In the 60s/70s, people like Clough, Harry Catterick and Bob Paisley were legendary managers...all as English as they come and all three from the NE...as was Bob Nicholson for Spurs, although he was a Scarborough lad. There are so many variables. I still have a feeling the FA coaching criteria isn't a patch on the Italian or French systems.
