This is a very respectable CV and I can't understand why people would see him as medicore club manager. Treble in Swedish League Double in Portugese League European Cup finalist 1 UEFA Cup, 1 UEFA Cup Finalist 4 Coppa Italia 1 Serie A

From Wikipedia Like it or not SGE's era should not be considered as abject failure. We blame him for not having achieved the full potential but SGE's England did achieve very respectable international recognitions.
  3. Can't speak for other posters but wanted Some info is outdated and I have slightly modified opinions now but by and large I would love to have anyone of the excellent and decent candidates over Glenn Roeder. Wouldn't mind any of Roy Keane either.
  4.:lol::lol::lol: You make my day Keefaz I would prefer the Everton model. Progressing with stability without breaking the bank.

Portugal - England Ricardo - Robinson Miguel - Neville Andrade - Terry Cavalho - Ferdinand Valente - Cole Figo - Beckham Deco - Gerard Tiago - Lampard Ronaldo - Rooney Pauletta - Owen Simao - Joe Cole Sub James, Carson, Campbell, Bridge, Carragher, Hargreaves, Carrick, Lennon, Downing, Crouch, Walcott Walcott and Lennon as both were unknown. Crouch was a far poorer forward than he is now. Quim, Santos, Ferreira, Meira, Petit, Viana, Boa Morte, Costinha, Maniche, Nuno Gomez, Postiga I definitely won't say that Portugal squad is any weaker than England squad, at the point of world cup, apart from backup defenders.
  6. The Times Good article. Foreign influence is has been good for English football in general. Open mindedness is the only guarantee to progression. Pitting Top English players against top foreign players English players will lose. Pitting top Enlgish players against top foreign players of any particular country English players won't lose out easily. The likes of Ferdinand, Scholes, Rooney, Neville, Gerrard, Carragher, Lampard, Terry etc are good enough players to play for every club and England national team is shite not because of the existence of Ronaldo, Alonso, Drogba and Henry in our league but because of a wrong manager. For years Spain and Italy, countries whose football league is severely infuriated by foreign players, have consistently produced great players. Italy have done well consistently in world stage because they have always got good managers to be national coach, whereas Spain don't not. There were few foreign players throughout 70s and 80s but England national team was not any better. Let's hope Steve McLaren can learn from his mistakes and improve.
  7. Since the arrival of Benitez and Mourinho I have always said that Premiership has a collection of the finest managers in the world. Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Benitez - 4 top class managers. La Liga - Capello, Rikjaard - 2 top class managers, Ramos and Sánchez Flores are yet to prove themselve properly. Serie A - Ancelotti. Spalletti and Mancini are yet to prove themselve sufficiently. Anyway the following are my layman, subjective ratings. My ratings are as below Fergie Tactics - 8 - Ferguson's tactic is quite one dimesional in my opinion unless players' injuries force a change. I don't want to say that this is bad as I believe a team should alawys play to their strength and if a tactic work why don't persist with the same tactic? Psychology/Mind Games - 9 Developing players - 8 - [/color]Apart from the class of 92 hardly United youth products come through the rank. The Browns and O'Sheas are good players but still not top class players. This could be down to his reluctance to invest in marturing young class players (Prior to Rooney and Ronaldo). But immense credits to Fergie for maturing Ronaldo and Rooney. Transfer Dealings - 9 - Fergie's dealings are always good apart from that particular few years which he burnt his hands, the transfers of Djemba-Djemba, Miller, Veron, Bellion etc happened in that particular few years and this taints Fergie's overall transfer achievements. However after this he has NOT bought any costly flops. Carrick, Evra, Vidiv, VDS, Rooney, Ronaldo, Heinze, Saha all turn out to be class players. The players he missed out - Obi Mikel, Ballack, Gattuso, Hargreaves, Robben are all class players too. Mourinho Tactics - 10 - I will give him a ten. From 433 to 442, from flat midfield to diamond midfield, from all out attacks to all out defends. You name it, he has it. Psychology/Mind Games - 10 Developing players - 9 - The Porto players were nothing before Mourinho. Lampard, Terry etc were nothing to before him. Transfer Dealings - 6 - He has bought quite many flops. Benitez Tactics - 9 - Brilliant brilliant tactician, a bit reliant to absorbing pressure and counter attack at the breaks though. Psychology/Mind Games - 7 - A bit quiet at this front though one can't fault him for failing in this area. His reservedness works well although again lack of variety means that he gets lower marks. Developing players - 9 - THe list of players who flourish under him is long. Crouch, Gerrard, Risse, Carragher, Finnan, Alonso, and the Valencia players etc. Transfer Dealings - 9 - Apart from Morientes, he has done extremely well given his lack of budgets and the volume of dealings. Wenger Tactics - 8 - Has a very good system, but lacks variety. Psychology/Mind Games - 7 - Developing players - 10 - Undisputed. Transfer Dealings - 10 - His buying is not perfect but his selling is extremely impressive. Just for fun Roeder Tactics - 4 - One dimesional tactics which doesn't even work well normally. Psychology/Mind Games - 4 - Trying to try too hard, trying got look honest when lying but get caught, trying to make excuses by saying he isn't etc. Developing players - 4 - Unproven. I strongly doubt that how much share of recognitions he trully can get from Defoe, Lampard, Ferdinand etc. Transfer Dealings - 4 -
  8. I don't think that Ronaldo's intelligence and vision are any worse than Ronaldinho. But I would say Ronaldinho's ball control is more superior than Ronaldo. The latter hardly scores from free kick, hardly strikes with outside foot. One needs supreme ball control to do both and Ronaldo just lacks this final bit to make him a complete ball player. That said, if he lacks intelligence and vision he won't have scored and provided so many assists even though he is not as skillful as Ronaldinho.
  9. And the financial muscle has nothing to do with acquiring good manager and good players?
  10. Why do you say he is not good enough for a club like us? Where do you see us? I see us as a midtable club with and I see Coleman as a proven midtable manager with extreme youth and parsimony transfer budget. You might critisise him for his direct football but such style is the only guaranttee for a club of Fulham's size (Bolton). I see enough potential in Coleman to think that it is worth the risk to give him a chance. He is innovative in the transfer market and he hasn't squandered any significant money. An analysis on Fulham team Niemi - Fee undisclosed Knight - Signed by Keegan Christanval - Free Bocanegra - Free Voltz - Nominal fee Rosenoir - Youth product Pearce - Fee undisclosed Brown - Fee undisclosed Diop - 2M Jensen - 1.25M Bullard - 2M Routledge - Loan Davis - Fee undisclosed Smertin - Free John - 600K Helguson - 1.3M Radzinski - 1.7M Montella - Loan McBride - Fee undisclosed This is not a bad list of transfer.
  11. PS I don't think Lawrie Sanchez is a good choice for Fulham. Good international manager does not automatically make a good club manager. His record with Wycombe Wanderers is unimpressive.
  12. Don't think Fulham had done significant;y better when Malbranque and Boa Morte were there. Seasons after seasons Fulham under Coleman have always been involved in relegation battle but at the end of it they will always be safe. This season is not much difference and the only reason Coleman is sacked is because the fans (ungrateful, unrealistic) booed him. I can understand that the fans might grow bored with Fulham under Coleman but if you ak me wheter I prefer premiership safety of Championship roller coaster I would definitely take the former option. Best of luck Chris, I have always hold you in high regards and I certainly think that you have bright future in club management. If Newcastle United get him I won't complain.
  13. Ronaldinho is definitely better than Ronaldo. What Ronaldo does that Ronaldinho doesn't? But Ronaldinho's shot accuracy is significantly better than Ronaldo. The latter still scores bags of goals but he achieves so by squandering another bags of chances. That said, Ronaldo is trully one of the bestest footballers in the world now.
  14. It is crazy to say that we need Duff because Zoggy might become unavailable, or have dip in form. With this logic we might as well buy loads of expensive back ups to Owen, Martins, Emre, Parker and Solano. Roeder should have spent 10M on Berbatov after getting Martins for 10M, after all no one would dispute that Berbatov at 10M is a bargain. Roeder should then concentrate his effort in getting Pires, Hamann, Dabo, Ballack, Bullard, Lanzaart and Malbranque. All these players are free or cheap. Nothing personal against Duff but the signing of Duff is not needed. If we are cash loaded then we can afford to waste 5M on anyone. But 5M was a third of our eventual transfer layout and wasting a third of the budget is ridiculous.

I suppose you rate Gary Speed highly and doesn't rate Scott Parker. But if Parker is subfar as a results of your comparison to Speed, then the same could be said to Martins, Owen, Duff, Butt, Dyer, Milner, Babayaro, Taylor etc every other NUFC players bar Shay Given. Why are you so particularly harsh on Parker? Because he is the captain? Or because he is really that bad a footballer? Different managers have come out to sing praises on Parker's leadership qualities. And Parker's tigerism has inspired and led the teams in many games. I really can't see why you have to single out Parker.

Apart from his comedy values, there are some positives about Strachan. 1. Proven at least premiership midtable standard 2. Give young players chances I wouldn't particularly want him here but I won't mind him here either. Newcastle United under him won't regress that's for sure.
