Gillette was one of the four groups which made offers for Villa. Interestingly, Ellis has since said that Gillette offered more than Lerner, but he turned him down as he thought what he proposed wasn't as good for the club as Lerner's propositions. Given Ellis' well-earned reputation as a man who likes money more than most, what does this say about the way he read Gillette's motives? Interesting. hmmmmmm

hopefully they would never get in our team if we did our job in the market well, we wouldnt be linked with them. if we did our job on the pitch well, we wouldnt be linked with them. buying good players = improved performance. usually. buying shit players = worse performance. usually. Cole and Fowler. not good enough.

Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley is in talks with Celtic after the Edinburgh club accepted an offer of more than £1m for the Scotland international. Rangers had two bids rejected on Tuesday for the 30-year-old, the last being just short of the £1m Hearts demanded, BBC Sport understands. And Celtic, who missed out on the player last January, moved to secure Hartley on Wednesday. It is believed that he has undergone a medical and is now discussing terms. Hartley, who last year signed a new contract with Hearts, was omitted from the Hearts side that drew at Ibrox at the weekend. Hearts head coach Valdas Ivanauskas said Hartley was omitted due to "football business". That was thought to have been a bid from Rangers. Hartley has two years of his contract to run and Celtic had a bid for the playmaker rejected last season. But he is set become a Celtic player before the January transfer window closes. The midfielder appeared in public alongside goalkeeper Craig Gordon and former captain Pressley in October, when the Scotland defender said there was "dressing-room unrest". Pressley has since moved to Celtic, while Gordon was also dropped for Saturday's SPL game at Ibrox. Rangers pipped Celtic on Tuesday to the signing of former Hibernian captain Kevin Thomson. ------------------------- i thought he would go to Rangers tbh

Spurs' manager hints at Sheringham move By europeanfootballnews.co.uk - January 31 2007 Tottenham manager, Martin Jol, has hinted at a move for 40-year old striker Teddy Sheringham. Although West Ham United striker Marlon Harewood remains his top target. It's believed that Spurs are currently working on a deal for, Sheringham's colleague at West Ham, Marlon Harewood. A fee of £8 million is being mooted. If a deal fails to materialise, Jol could opt to offer Sheringham his third spell at White Hart Lane.

I guarantee that if this was an English club and there fans behaved in the same manner that those hooligan Feyenord fans did, they would not only be chucked out of the competition but banned from the competition for at least 2-3 seasons. oh who am i kidding, i just want the bloody bye not think you can beat them like? Honestly think we can beat them but wouldnt want to take the risk. Much prefer us to be in the last 16 witout having to play anyone i wouldn't like that tbh, might aswell earn your place

Everton is hoping Manuel Fernandes will arrive on loan from Benfica today, the Times reported. Portsmouth is set to agree to a club record 8 million-pound fee for Udinese's Sulley Muntari, the Mirror said. Celta Vigo winger Nene will move to White Hart Lane later today in a deal that will see Egyptian striker Mido move in the opposite direction according to reports this morning. The Daily Mirror claims Celta have won the race to sign Mido, beating Newcastle and Manchester City to his signature, albeit only on loan until the end of the season. The paper claims that Spurs target Nene is part of the deal with the Brazilian winger set to move to north London. Nene is a naturally left sided winger and would be the ideal solution to the club's left sided problems, though a last minute move for Derby's Giles Barnes has also been reported who would also fulfil that role.
