  1. According to L'Equipe Hatem Ben Arfa is prepared to go on strike to get a move to us even if it means being fined and not being involved in France's Euro 2012 qualifiers.

i wish someone could offer a reasonable explanation as to why he'd go to these lengths to join us, i really do

hm, finally...it's at least possible - however they never played at OM together right?  so it'd just be an assumption that they know each other then...

Habib is the man, everybody knows Habib!

  3. Still think this one is close to being tied up, as there still don't appear to be any other serious bidders. Dassier is just making a song and dance to get the Marseille fans onside I reckon. If it doesn't pan out we'll get someone else of a similar style I believe.  We've been very strongly linked with the likes of Erding and Djalo as well, so no need to fret. Think we've always intended to go after a top attacking midfielder/striker to play with Carroll, who is quite inexperienced at this level.

    Keep the faith guys.

    :aww:

  4. Curtis Davies came across as a bit of a c*** in his interview. Smug and pleased.

MON apparently hasn't said a word to a number of the fringe players for yonks. He's one of them.

I can't understand the likes of MON and Rafa shooting themselves in the foot treating players like outcasts, especially ones they signed.

Makes me glad the way Hughton conducts himself on this matter.

    That's the thing.

Curtis Davies 9.5m, NRC 8.5m, Shorey 5m, Luke Young 4m.

All ceased to exist, all signed by the manager, then he says "give me some more money, or I'm off".

    It doesn't add up, really.

Really is quite incredible. His treatment of Beye last season was quite shoddy as well really. It was amazing how quickly he gave up on the guy, especially when you consider the alternative was to play Cuellar (a centre back!) there.

Never really liked O'Neill a smuch as others seem too tbh. He's a weird guy. Thinking about the likes of Curtis Davies and Reo-Coker he didn't even use them as part of a rotation. It seems once he turns on you then you never see the pitch. All the more bizarre because Villa typically seem to burn out quite dramatically towards the end of the season. Let's not forget the year he completely threw away their UEFA campaign by fielding teens. Just some really bizarre stuff.

I'm with you Brummie. Thin you'll ultimately be better off.

  5. Its all you c***s with him as your avatar. Talk about Jynxing it man!

Surely we knew all along we had no formal agreement in place? If he's coming here on loan, and the president claimed we were yet to agree on wages, then  it's obvious we'd never had an agreement as we'd yet to settle on what % of the wages we'd be paying?

Sounds like one last attempt to attract some other clubs by letting them know it's not a done deal yet.

    Are you on medication?

  6. Basically, we could do with a midfielder with a bit more athleticism, energy and mobility to compliment the ones we currently have. We currently have too many of the same sorts at the moment. The likes of Kevin Prince Boateng or Reo-Coker would both be really good, despite not being classic DMs per se.

  7. I wouldn't go that far like.

Well, well, well. It's looking good! Hope we can bring this thing home now.

The great thing about this, should we pull this off, is the fact that the outlay for this will only be £800,000! So it should hopefully allow us to spend a bit more money in other areas.

    :idiot2:

Well at least one central midfield destroyer with legs! Please God!

Maybe a bit too optimistic I know ... but I remain hopeful.

  9. Well I reckon thats it then, if we were interested we have left it far far too late to tie up the deal.  His inclusion in the France squad will have bumped up his valuation, and Benfica have now got £18m to spend after selling Ramires to Chelsea, so we can't hope to compete for Ben Arfa they will simply outbid us, also, the time wasted trying to tie up this deal means we have also missed out on Cleverley.  Looks like we will have to rely on the kids now!

    Oh my God!

  10. The sad truth is, some people will never give Ashley an ounce of credit. And anyone that does is seen as some sort of Pro Ashley imbecile.

His tenure has a long way to go before it earns the trust of the masses by making up for the numerous disasters so far.

Some truth in that as well. However, regarding the Ben Arfa situation I think they are right to be careful with how much they invest because he does have a bit of baggage. As long as we have quality alternatives, which we very well may, then there is no need to go all in to soon; particularly as we are apparently in a strong position with Newcastle being the player's preference.

Yeah, I agree. It's unfortunate really.
