  1. Sven is a nothing manager without cash.

But what do you base this on though? His knowledge and experience of worldwide football is far better and I'm sure he'd be able to get better players than Hughes on any budget. To me the difference in class between Sven and Hughes is massive. Had Man City kept Sven once the Arab owners took over, rather than getting Hughes in, I believe they would have achieved that top four finish by now.

  2. I still have literally no hope this will happen. Been here before, Aimar, Mordic, Deco......

i will continue to tell myself this wont happen until i see him in a black and white top.

    Gay ...

  3. Some Journalist on twitter reckons we're watching Mallorca's Pierre Webo. Dont know much about him, VI or any other Spanish league followers; whats he like?

    Fast with inconsistent end product.

Like a lot of African players really.

So what are English players then?

    Slow and shit?

  4. Who would he replace in the team though. I invisage that he would want to move for first-team football, but I honestly can't see Hughton replacing Jonas. :undecided:

Will play as the second striker, just off Carroll.

  5. I think I'd genuinely jizz in my pants if we signed Ben Arfa. But I refuse to get my hopes up, life isn't that kind to us.

Oh goodness not another one ... people who claim they refuse to get their hope up are the ones who have done exactly that! If he doesn't end up here you'll be the first ones whinging and moaning about it because you did get your hopes up.

Just take a deep breath and don't worry about it so much. He's only one player of many we will be looking at if this story is true. It's not the end of the world if we don't sign him, and signing him doesn't guarantee he will single handedly transform the club either. Just take the reports as they come and let it play out.

  6. Ben Arfa news is 'relatively positive', whatever that means.

    This Twitter again?

Yeah, guy from the Journal/Chronicle. Now he's saying he's pretty sure there is firm NUFC interest in Ben Arfa. :frantic:

nope still dont believe it refuse to get my hopes up

    What a big pansy

Don't want to get your delicate little feelings hurt pookie wookie ... aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww how sweet.

    MAN THE FREAK' UP SON!

not going to believe it until i see him in a toon shirt (which wont happen)

Believe what? No one has said he's signing!

  8. Campbell has opted to head to St James’ Park after rejecting the overtures of Celtic and Newcastle’s arch-rivals, Sunderland, and it is believed that he will sign a one-year deal with an option for a further season in the North-East.

The Newcastle regime are understood to be ready to pay the 35 year-old the maximum amount allowed under their new wage structure - £35,000-per-week – which is less half the sum he was offered to play for newly-promoted Bundesliga side St Pauli.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/championship/newcastleunited/7913387/Newcastle-on-verge-of-signing-Sol-Campbell.html

  9. In the short term he's a better option than Williamson. So in light of Taylor's injury it's not a bad signing, providing the wages aren't going to deprive us of a new striker.

If the wages were going to deprive us of a new striker then I doubt we would even consider Sol tbh.

Edit - For the record I think Campbell is also still a better CB than Taylor at this moment in time.

  10. what is it about Jamie Milner that makes him so highly-regarded ffs??

He always was/is/will be average at everything except excessive step-overs and pointless (slow) running..  30 million my ass

People will bring up his goals and assists from last season as evidence of how good he is, but imo if you slot Ireland into the same position in that Villa team with Young, Downing, Agbonlahor and Carew ahead of him, I think he betters those goal and assist numbers.

  11. If I was Villa, I'd be asking what the catch is. A much, much better deal for them than it is for Man City.

Man City have to do this because due to their ridiculous transfer policy and the huge squad they now have, they have to move on a lot of their players, who are actually very good players.

The irony is that a lot of the players they are essentially going to be giving away, are proven prem talents and performers. However, the supposed improved players Man City have brought in are yet to prove anthing in this league. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

  12. Aston Villa reputedly trying to get Bellamy + Ireland + cash for Milner

It'd be a good deal for Villa if it happens

As has already been mentioned on here. They are going to end up improving everyone else and indirectly shooting themselves in the foot.

From my point of view swapping Ireland for Milner is pretty much even (Milner offering a bit more in work rate and defensive effort and Ireland offering a bit more creatively and going forward imo), and then you give them Bellamy who is a better striker than anything they have, plus some extra cash to play with. Very good stuff for Villa indeed.

  13. Hard to better this for a short-term signing - only question is over pace but he seems to have done OK with Arsenal last season.

Def better than having Bramble back.

People talk about pace, but I can't say with any certainty that our other options in Taylor and Williamson are any faster than Sol.

  14. Does this mean our age limit on players is over now?, and if so cna we assume we are the English club looking at Raul?

From what I remember from one of the statements about this, the age limit thing was more to do with players we were paying a fee for rather than free transfers on reasonable wages.

  15. I still rate Campbell as a better centre back than both Steven Taylor (always liked him at right back over centre back) and Mike Williamson, and so I'm very happy about this move. Coloccini will benefit hugely from playing alongside Campbell, who is fantastic at communicating with the rest of the backline and keeping them organised. I live with Arsenal supporters and so watched a good number of their games last season, and Campbell was really good.

  16. Arevalo was massively impressive during the World Cup, complete dynamo. Hopefully there's something in that one, but I won't hold my breath.

Was he the long haired one who played very similar to Jonas but with an end product. (i know ive just described most offensive south americans) :)

He was the bald guy who played the defensive midfield/holding role for Uruguay. Very good ball winner.

  17. I love how much offense some people are taking to others possibly hoping Ben Arfa comes here, so much so that they instantly believed a report from Goal.com

I was going to have a bit of a rant/moan about it, but can't be bothered. At the end of the day some people are just extraordinarily negative. We're linked to a player and some people just enjoy discussing the possibility, however far fetched. It's typically what is done during the summer. However, due to some kind of inferioirty complex or defense mechanism, this is apparently too much for some, because if we don't sign them it apparently makes them suicidal. Very strange.
