  1. Guerrero would be an amazing signing, especially on a free.

Cacau looked very good vs barcelona if im thinking of the right bloke, and is just the sort of pacey striker we'll need next season.

Always really liked him even as a youngster at Bayern. Think he would suit the prem too. Good, physical and committed player who could hopefully get around 12 - 15 in the prem and continue to get better as still 26. Wage demands shouldn't be crazy either. Good looking fit for us I reckon. Had no idea he was on a free.

  2. Just been looking over this summers free agent list again and there really are some really good, solid and realistic players that would suit us quite nicely going back into the premier league (fingers crossed).

Hope we are really aggressive with this once promotion is hopefully secured. The earlier we can achieve this the better really.

  3. I think we need a lot more than £15m - £20m. The problem is that our defence looks fairly sound, and we don't need a new keeper urgently, as we have decent back up as well. So our main requirements are in midfield and Premier League class striker. That tends to be more expensive than any other part of the team, but it could be the difference between staying up and going down. Bent at Sunderland being the classic example.

Robbie Keane would be my shout for that sort of player.

Robbi Keane ... why oh why oh why would you go there?!

The scouting department is going to have to step up big time this summer. They're going to have to identify strikers that could come in and score at least 15 goals in the prem. They are going to have to be players who are not currently big players in the prem now either, because I just don't see anyone realistic that we can get who would be worth it. Robbie Keane's fee and wages would be absolutely stupid and he is at that 30 year old mark now.

  4. Off the potentially relegated sides I'd look at:

Eagles for cover/competition on the wings.

    Diamanti.

    Behrami.

    Belhadj.

    KP Boateng.

    Bikey.

Pompey have recieved a £4.5m bid for Belhadj from CSKA and a £5m offer for Boateng from Sevilla according to their administrator.

Aaaaaaaaaah phooey! Really want us to go for Boateng. £5 million is a good shout too.

  5. Didn't someone say Hughton was spotted at the Hull vs Fulham game? Sun just jumping to conclusions. More likely we were looking at Altidore as Rich mentioned I believe.

Bullard is injury prone and quite old now and just wouldn't be a sound investment at all.

  6. Also, the Bent and Jones partnership doesn't work. Bent plays well by himself, put him with someone and he goes missing.

You might want to look at Bent's record when playing alongside Jones. They have also linked up really well when played together from the games I've watched. Bent plays well when he is partnered by a target man.

Where are you getting this from? I'm sure you've made this statement before and it is just wrong.

  7. Sounds like Taylor has decided to leave in the summer and not renew his contract over the incident according to the Sunbday papers. Big blow if true as while he's not an amazing defender we will have a job replacing him.

Wow ... this might turn out to be a blessing in disguise then. I really don't like Taylor as a centre back in the prem, especially beside Colo. We could do with someone more commanding and dominant in the air than Taylor in there. Thought even Williamson was looking more that kind of player than Taylor. Was already hoping Taylor would be moved out to right back instead next year, where he looks a much better player anyway.

Not losing any sleep over this if true.

  8. I just cannot help but think Hughton has been quite lucky this season, we've had a fantastic season in a weak league but I genuinely can't remember a moment when I've thought "Great decision, Chris" when it comes to making a change, picking a team, changing a game plan etc. If you don't do that in the top flight you'll get punished.

I have a massive amount of admiration for the fella but I won't be overly confident if he's still our manager going into the new season. I'm not being unrealistic, I'm not saying that if we get promoted we should be aiming for anything above survival. I just think if we enter into a Premiership season, three or four new faces or not, with the same manager with his same ideas then we'll be straight back down again.

    What is wrong with you?

To not have faith in Hughton is one thing, but to suggest Mowbray as a better option is absolutely insane.

His teams are never defensively sound and that will always be a major issue.

    Hell no!

  9. Really worried about his temperament, and you can only hope that with his current success he just wises up and focuses on football. Nothing better than seeing a youngster rise up from the club's academy and become something, so would be great if he kept on improving. Huge credit to Hughton this season for sticking with him the way he has. We've also seen Guthrie benefit hugely from Hughton's faith in him as well.

Have to say though the turn around in people's opinions of him in just a few months is a bit cringeworthy. I guess when people rubbish players and write them off I shouldn't take it too seriously. I guess it's just said fleetingly in moments of frustration. Some of you guys had completely dismissed him as a footballer period.

I always felt that at 6 foot 4 and with good co-ordination and mobility, not to mention a very good build i.e. not too heavy and not too slight, he had a decent chance of becoming something. I thought we had blown it with him though, by not getting him out on loan somewhere a bit earlier. I know he messed up one of his loan moves but we should have persevered more with it. This relegation has been a blessing for him now though. If we go back up (fingers crossed still!) and he goes on to become a good prem player it would be so ironic, because I 'm not sure it would ever happen without us going down (clouds with silver linings eh?). Well not at Newcastle anyway.

The key thing now is not to be as careless with Ranger. Should be loaned out to a championship/league 1 side where he will play regularly as soon as we are back in the prem (fingers ...).

  10. I'd take Beye back rather than play Simpson. He'd still do a good job for us. I think he's just bene unfortunate since he moved to Villa. Beye, Bullard (if Hull go down) and O'Hara would be a good start. I know Bullards getting on now and he doesn't fall into our U25 criteria so we probably won't even be in for him like but he would be a good signing depending on wages. We can't really be picky next season, we need to sign players who are going to make sure we stay up first rather than worry about sell on values.

And how does Bullard make sure we say up if he is on the treatment table for all but 5 games?

    Jimmy Bullard ... yikes!
