  1. Boumsong was very poor, it's still laughable that we paid so much for this clown who joined Rangers on a free transfer only months earlier.

Don't understand your logic regarding signing on a free. Chamakh is likely to sign on a free with Arsenal does that make him crap? Or does it mean he should therefore only be sold on the cheap in future?

  2. On SSN reckons when we lost he got blamed said you cant charge one man for this. Willing to join Big Eck @ Birmingham. Willing to go back to the Gers to end his career.

Nee to re-apply for a job here sunbeam.

I always felt really bad for Boumsong. Really took a hell of a lot of stick at the time, most of which was furthered by the media. Another foreign defender who wasn't given time to settle, and who wasn't protected well by the midfield in front of him. He also moved to us in January which made things even tougher. Once the media got hold of him and everyone turned on him he completely fell to pieces.

  3. Kevin Prince Boateng apparently available for £5 million. It would be rude not to at that price.

We should go for his half-brother Jerome Boateng of Hamburg. Very quick defender and can play as a right back as well as centre back.

Kevin Prince Boateng seems more realistic, though.

Jerome Boaezeeeee was being linked with Man U and Man City the other day, so not sure we have a chance with that one.

  4. As for worrying about Colo, he's dealt with equally good strikers at international level (by all accounts he was very good at right-back against Spain this season) and in La Liga. I'm happy to put season one down to bedding in and simply poor form and give him a clean slate as far as the Premier League's concerned.

Exactly. Anyone see his masterclass on Iniesta? Not a powerful striker but a quick, extremely tricky and supremely intelligent footballer. Colo has never ever had problems dealing with sheer pace, it's the power/pace combo where he struggled. But it's not like that was even exposed that often by those particular attributes. Someone tell me in which games was he obviously physically pummelled and it led to a goal? I can think of the Stoke game where Fuller turned him but any others? The only oher terrible game Colo had was against Liverpool where he was outdone by some poor positional sense which was probably down to his naivety of the English game.

Colo's main flaw last season was his apparent lack of heart, he seemed to give up on causes that weren't necessarily lost and he just didn't seem motivated to do well. Next season should see that dispelled though, he could have generally fallen for the club now a la Enrique.

Yeah, agreed. Think Colo is a classy defender who just needs to be partnered with someone who is a bit more of a brute.

Actually, I didn't see too much of him before he came to Newcastle, but understand he's a pretty decent defensive midfielder also. Could this be another posssibility for us next season? Considering we actually have no defensive midfielders at the moment!

  5. Where did it go wrong for Hugo Almeida? Worth a punt in the premier league?

Did it ever go right, though? Never seemed to have much to his game apart from his height, and I don't think you need another tall guy.

Always thought he looked decent at the under 21 level for Portugal, which is mostly when I saw him play tbf. Still just 25 too. He should leave Werder and give it one more shot somewhere else. What would they expect for him at this point. Probably around £3million - £5 million. I'd punt that!

  6. As a target man, I seriously do think that Andy Caroll will do a decent job on Premiership level.

In the odd appearance, yes. But over a whole season can we really expect consistency from him at that level? Too much too soon I think. He should be a squad member next year and should definitely feature a fair bit, but shouldn't be relied upon to that extent.

  7. Whichever Bendtner turns up will decide Arsenal's fate.

There only is one, and he's s***.

Want some crisps with that pint of bitter? His part in the 2nd goal was important.

He played The O through for the 1st aswell.

So similar to Shola it's untrue. Absolutely horrid play mixed in with wtf moments.

  8. Taylor is the better athlete, but Williamson is more comfortable on the ball, is decisive and takes responsibility. He's the better bet. Taylor hasn't developed into the player I thought he could be.

As for Colo, I'm one of the doubters. The biggest difference between the Premiership and the Championship is quality in the final third, and I think he'll get found out again.

I share your view ; Coloccini's biggest failing last season was getting caught out by the pace and movement of Prem strikers - he was either on the wrong side of them, or they left him for dead if they beat the offside. Look how Torres took the defence apart at SJP ; I know he's top quality, but that is what our CDs will be faced with next season. There IS an argument for saying that Colo was not happy alongside Taylor and I also have reservations about him...a good CD pairing need to complement each other and Taylor has not made any of the players he has partnered look decent.

There is much thinking for Hughton and Calderwood to do when deciding transfer targets and trying to stay within their budget....

You do have to wonder what effect all the upheaval had on our players last year also. Particularly the new ones.

I remember how well Colo did in his first game at Old Trafford against Rooney. It looked very, very promising. Looked like another Carvalho. I think he'll be fine.

  9. The beauty of having Hughton going into next season is the fact that we can all be quite confident that everyone will at least be pulling in the same direction as far as player recruitment goes. It already worked so well in January, and so there will hopefully be swift and early movement in the transfer window this summer.

The key difference between Taylor and Williamson is strength. Williamson is much stronger and doesn't seem to lose balance and fall over like Taylor tends to. That plus the added height is a huge plus. Williamson just has more presence and authority about him.

  11. Regardign Barton does he really deserve to be in the first team next season? Has done nothing since he came here and didn't even contribute this year. Would love for us to cut our loses on him. Just a headache waiting to happen. I'm sure if he was involved this year he would have only hurt our chances with one distraction or the other.

  12. If you think about it really Reo-coker, Sidwell and Delph hardly ever play. So it would have been some mystery third central midfielder starting all those games in the middle to make the supposed 4-5-1.

Agbonlahor didn't play up top. More a roaming player that occasionally played up top. The formation was set up 4-5-1.

    Hopefully Brummie gets here (again).

Are you saying Young and Milner weren't out wide early in the season then?! Or are you saying Gabby was playing CM?!

  13. I see a lot of teams for next season with Guthrie in the centre. Really like the guy, but not sure he should be starting in a midfield two in the prem. I think someone like O'Hara is a bit more robust and would do better in there. I think we would then need a  stronger, athletic, super energetic guy in there to partner someone like O'Hara - think Diame at Wigan or Palacios. Obviously not to buy them, but someone in that mould.

  14. Aye, it should have been obvious. I'd love to know how on earth he came to the conclusion that they play Agbonlahor as a lone striker.

My point still stands tho. They played 4-5-1. Agbonlahor not partnering the striker.

    Um ... okay?!

    :harry:
