Newcastle keeper Shay Given is set for a £10m move to Man City with officials meeting on Monday to tie up the deal. (Daily Mirror)
:yikes:
:yikes:
10m is not enough. I would have insisted on the original 14m. He's that valuable to us, and we know shitty can pay it. Nee fucker else is able to sell them their first choice keeper, as nee fucker else has a deputy as able as Harper.
We could probably have squeezed more than £10 million out of them but there's one week to go in the window. If we have to get that money in to move for our own players then so be it.
All in all £10 million for a keeper of his age is in no way a disaster, particularly as we have a very able deputy in place already and so won't need to go out and buy another one.

Johnson would be okay as one for further down the road.
Basically, we should still sign a couple of other central midfielders if he is part of the deal.
-
We have some movement at last! Thank God.

Things have been so quiet you just have to believe something is about to happen out of nowhere right?
Big week for the club. Either way we will all no for sure where things stand with the current regime.
Can't wait for this next week to be over tbh.
I guess when nothing happens you'll be telling people to shut up and wait for the summer.
Nope. Afraid not. No excuse if the team isn't improved upon by next week.

23 isn't all that young.
It is if they are being brought in for the first team and you want a bit of experience.
Basically I don't see us going for some of the 28 - 30 year olds we have been linked with unless they are on free transfers.

Newcastle Interested In Costa Rican Striker
January 25th, 2009
There is news today in that bastion of truthful journalism, the News Of The World, that Newcastle are after a Costa Rican footballer, who is currently playing in the Belgium League.
The news is that Newcastle United have sent scouts to check on Jupiler League club AA Gent star striker, Bryan Ruiz
Brian played for Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA), a Costa Rican football club playing in the Primera División de Costa Rica, from 2003 until 2006, when he was picked up by Gent.
He played 67 times with 25 goals for Deportiva Alajuelense, and has appeared 60 times with 20 goals for AA Gent.
He has also played 14 times for his country, Costa Rica, and has 6 international goals.
Brian was born in August of 1985 in San José, and scored his first hat trick playing for Gent on December 8th 2007 against Lokeren.
Seems like the sort we would go for at the moment.
Young and up and coming from a smaller league and so lower transfer fee and wages.

Brazilian paper O Lance paper are saying Newcastle could be interested in Cruzeiros goalkeeper Fabio.
He's been linked with Arsenal too.
Think that was Jan 2008.
Maybe Kinnear had a look at him while scouting for Arsenal.

Wise and the gang were in Brazil for a while weren't they? Possible.
-
We are not going to go for James unless he is virtually free.
Ashley's policy is to spend money on youngsters whose value will rise and experienced players will only be brought in for nominal fees.
-
Kenwyne Jones is class.
Would be a great signing.
-
Can't understand the fuss over Saviola, has he ever been a regular striker in the past 5 seasons? and if he's so good how come he seems to be constantly available, but no big teams want him.
Typical NUFC signing.
Other than Real Madrid and Barcelona you mean?!
-
We can't afford the guy's wages. Have we learnt nothing?
b******!! Keep forgetting about that
If Owen goes it won't be a problem.
Saviola won't get what we are currently paying Owen.
-
Saviola would be brilliant in the prem. Whoever gets him will not regret it.
-
If we really are after Balde then we have stopped scraping the bottom of the barrel and gone right through it. You could not describe him as hopeless as that is too generous. What have we become !!!!
Before you plunge that dagger into your side you do realise we haven't signed Balde right?
It's just a rumour just like Quashie was. Calm down.
-
Would be very dissapointed if we aren't in for Christian Obodo of Udinese.
Don't think he's been a regular since Gokhan Inler came in for him, due to injury, and did so well.
Good age at 25 and shouldn't be too expensive really. Typical all action African midfielder.
-
No one with any ability wants to sign for us - why the f*** would they? Kinnear can try his bollocks off, Ashley could give us £10/15/20m to spend - no one will come here.
Stop acting like a child.
My goodness.
-
Good ol' Derek.
Lets make these transfers happen and just have a more peaceful second half of the season please.
-
Might as well wait till the window is shut for good then everyone can unleash their anger and frustration in unison.
I still think they'll pull something off. The rate at which we have been signing youngsters suggest work is being done. It's just a lot more difficult and complex making sure you get the right first team players in.
-
We should just swap Zoggy for Fred if we are really after a forward and Lyon want to do business.
-
Strong rumours down here that we're signing Heskey.
Hmmm.
Probably true as Mido is going to Wigan with King going the other way and Wigan have signed the Columbian striker also.
-
That Akinbiyi ruined everything. Couldn't hold up the ball at all. Patterson was awesome at it.
-
How feckin frustrating.
Stupid stupid Burnley.
-
That Taarabt boy looks dangerous.
He never ever plays though?!
Crazy.

We've just been negotiating I think and exploring all options.
We can't just go in and pay what is demanded right off the bat. It just doesn't work like that. It's the last week and so now we will hopefully move for the best deals we have found so far.
Painstaking for us the fans but good for the club overall.
