Such a good point, and a huge concern for me. We are so bad at moving players on at the right time and getting decent money for them. Under Mitchell we saw some promising progress in this area with the Almiron and Kelly moves. Just hope the folks still there learnt from that.

Nah, he's good. Just hasn't broken into their first team this year. Not as experienced as the players ahead of him. For what it's worth this is what his profile looks like for the minutes he has played in France.

Jonathan Rowe is the young English guy that was at Norwich. He was very good there. We were linked prior to his move to Marseille last summer, and really should have bought him then. He hasn't managed to break into their first 11 under De Zerbi, and they will probably sell for around £15 to £20 million as they got him for around £10 million. Would be a really good signing. He's very two footed and comfortable on both wings. Great work rate too.

Gotcha I think Edwards is the very very best. Think you lot are going to be a huge headache now he is fully in charge of your football operations. Especially now he has his own hand picked manager that is fully aligned with him, and who has already won the league right off the bat, prior to getting any meaningful signings in. It's going to be a nightmare.

So ... I didn't realise the club Freedman joined in the Saudi second division (which I always thought was weird) is actually PIF owned. Remember there was talk at the time we failed to get him that the financial package wasn't attractive enough. Well ... what if he's already working for us, but is just parked in a random Saudi lower division club, and so can be paid much more by PIF, without it showing on our books! Clever work around? At the very least we can pretty much lean on him as much as we want with him not working for another European club, but an obscure second division club in Saudi. I think we may have been pretty slick here and have been very clever. Also means we avoided paying compo to that twerp at Palace

Richard Hughes and Howe go way back to their playing days if I remember correctly. It will have to be someone Howe is comfortable with. Think they should just give it to Nickson. All these high profile DOFs ain't going to work.

He's in Saudi Arabia, having just taken a role there.

Michael Edwards ultimately stepped away from Liverpool after disagreements with Klopp. The club ended up bringing him back, as they thought the recruitment suffered once he left (see Darwin Nunez for £80 million as the main example) which was part of the reason Klopp then stepped down. Edwards is now the main man over there and runs the whole show as not even the DOF now but the CEO.

For better or for worse this is how it must be. Eddie wants it to all to be on him, and so there is no point forcing a high profile DOF in there. Will have to be the longer term strategy after Howe leaves. Will mean a bigger restart/reset at that point to some extent, but just how it is.

Yeah, I like Nickson. Just hope some of the longer term stuff isn't abandoned. Like bringing in young players into the youth teams. Wonder what those high profile youngsters we signed are thinking, as it seemed Mitchell was driving that.

I doubt we're bringing in any of these sorts of people man These sorts will have their own way of doing things and are likely to even want to bring in their own manager! Nickson was considered for the role last summer. I think he'll get it this summer.

For what it's worth, I think this all likely means we have a much better and smoother summer of recruitment, as any differences in approach have now been dispelled.

I think you're probably spot on. A technical director is more aligned with overseeing and staffing all areas, similar to what Ashworth did previously, and so Howe and Nickson will likely then focus on recruitment.

My God man. This club Kind of glad this has happened tbh. Most people were against Mitchell from the outset with how things transpired, and even up till now were having a go at the guy. Think he made the smart move to leave, especially with Eales now having to step down, who was the one that brought him in. They should just make Nickson DOF at this point so there is continuity, and he is also comfortable working with Howe. Just hope Mitchell doesn't come back in for Bunce if he goes elsewhere, as he was a great acquisition. Long term not sure this is ideal, but while Eddie was s manager, it's likely for the best, as he isn't comfortable working with a recruitment focused DOF. Going to be very interesting to see how recruitment goes. At least now it will all be down to what Howe is comfortable with and there'll be no more blaming Mitchell for everything. All for the best I think.

He'll be confident of starting more regularly there as they have no one near Isak's level. Also has the Man City familiarity with Maresca and Palmer too. Understandable decision. Going to Man Utd would have been the really bad decision.

Well, he couldn't make any signings the last two windows because we had already messed up the PSR situation. What he has done so far is move on Almiron and Kelly for decent fees and bring in a number of promising young players. Pretty sure he revamped Monaco's whole setup and team profile by moving on a number of underperforming older players and having them start bringing in younger players. This has since started to bear fruit the last few seasons. Videos were posted when he joined, about the changes he made at Monaco to setup them up to be in a better position going forward. They were not short term quick fixes, which is likely why their fans were moaning. The videos are still in this thread. His record of signings he has made at other clubs has also been posted and it isn't one to sniff at. Not sure why people keep trying to make out this guy is some sort of buffoon.

It's pretty clear this is what he meant, as being careless with PSR has meant we were unable to spend for the last 3 windows. It was something that absolutely needed sorting out. Really weird that the quote keeps being used as a stick to beat him with.
