Cannot believe Lukaku man. If that was us I’d be crying my fucking eyes out.

But what did Dzeko do when he was on the pitch?

That Ederson 'save' was very fortunate, even though Lukaku could have placed it better.

Ironically Lukaku had more of an impact than any striker on the pitch today. Should have played from the start.

Anyone got any opinions on Koopmeiners at Atalanta? Seems a good profile for our centre mid and is a lefty

    Looking at you @ponsaelius

Watched a lot of Serie A matches on BT sport this season and Atalanta were on a fair bit.

He's a really good player, but he's not the most mobile or dynamic, probably quite similar to Bruno in athleticism, but not sure he plays with the same type of tenacity, and so not sure I'd want him and Bruno in a middle three.

Quality player though. Fantastic shot on him and passes it well, and also seen him play as an attacking mid, central mid and deeper midfielder too.

Just not quite sure of the fit, but then again we played Bruno and Shelvey in a midfield three for a bit and it functioned well, so maybe it could work.

He will be picking up a lot of the leg work that Longstaff does though as Bruno doesn’t have the engine to press at that high of a tempo from a more advanced position, unless we are changing formation to go with the double pivot of Bruno and Adams?

We should be looking to sign a back up to Bruno and a better version of Longstaff that offers all of the work but more ability in the final third.

There's been talk of Bruno moving into the number 8 position to help unlock defences further up the pitch, as that is his preferred position too, but I guess it all depends on who we're able to get in midfield.

If we are able to a really good number 8 then Bruno probably stays in the 6 position, however if we are able to get a really good 6 then we might move him up. I imagine that's how we'll be approaching the whole thing.

The issue with Adam’s is that he doesn’t offer any real improvement on the shortcomings of Longstaff, which is surely what we should be looking for in a first team replacement in his position.

Adams is a 6, and not an 8. I was very impressed with him prior to his injury.

He is incredibly quick, athletic and aggressive in his pressing and tackling and the guy's energy levels never dropped. What was most surprising about him though, was how decent he was with the ball. He got on the ball loads and was very good at progressing it with shorter passes in between the lines, to the players ahead of him.

Someone is going to get a steal there when they pick him up. Think because he's been injured for a while, he's kind of been forgotten about. He looked a heck of a player IMO.

Would not be surprised if Liverpool casually grab him somewhere in the middle of the summer and it is hardly talked about, and then when the season starts a lot of fans will be fuming.

That's really depressing if so, and I'd say that even if I was a neutral. Spurs are a hair away from being a complete basket case, and if Postecoglou goes wrong then they absolutely are that. Meanwhile we're in the CL; a settled club on an upward trajectory. Someone like him choosing Spurs over us suggests the Big 6 brand is a long way from being dismantled.

There'll always be some players that are like this. Don't think it's an indication of Spurs being thought of higher still.

Leicester want over 50 million for Maddison according to Percy from the telegraph, he’s usually spot on with their news.

I read somewhere that we were looking at either Maddison or Szoboszlai, and it would ultimately come down to what Leicester were asking for Maddison.

Article said we wouldn't mind paying more for Szoboszlai as he was 4 years younger and his wages would be less than Maddison's.

With Maddison's fee looking like it won't be much less, I think that likely means we move on from him.

There are good deals to be had from relegated teams every season, the ‘don’t want relegated players’ thing is such a lazy take.. so many examples of successful transfers coming from teams that went down.

Liverpool signed Robertson, Wijnaldum and Henderson form poor teams and they were all crucial players for both their League and Champions League achievements.

Teams mismanage and waste quality players all the time. Taking full advantage of that is a key strategy in building up a quality squad of players to compete.

I think the three teams that went down this season have a lot of very good players between them. A ridiculous number of them actually.

Tbh I think the Conference League might even end up being more meaningful than the Europa League, certainly if all of its main contenders continue to be otherwise unfavoured teams with largely empty trophy cabinets. I love the Europa League but even that gets routinely won by teams who'd arguably swap basic attendance in the Champions League for that piece of silverware.

Man, I find all of them fun to follow.

But, yeah, it's been interesting watching some of the smaller teams in Europe in this competition, that don't get as much coverage ordinarily.

aren’t a lot of Italian stadiums half empty because of hooliganism or is it their economy?

    Man, I don't know.

All I know is I was not rooting for West Ham after they cut that man's head open for absolutely nothing early in the game.

He wasn't winding them up, wasn't wasting time, nothing ... sick individuals.

Fair play to West Ham. Great to see an English team outside of the shameful six to win a trophy. Can't understand the hate.

Happy for the players mostly, and Moyes somewhat I guess, even though the football was terrible.

Those fans though man, oof. Didn't really mind who won at the outset but the way they cut that man's head open was so unacceptable. Hope they still get a very harsh punishment for it. Maybe toss them out of Europe next season.

    Very jealous.

A trophy is a trophy man. Everyone laughs at this competition till you see the winners after they get the win. Roma were loving it too last season. It's valid.

  12. Fair play to them, but a disgusting night overall.

Cracking that man on the head, getting a penalty that was at best fortunate, playing such an awful match ... but here we are.
