Miggy had a purple patch and if people expect it every season I feel their gonna be disappointed.

I was talking more about the job he did with his movement off the ball last season, as he constantly exploited spaces in behind in that manner, linking up with Bruno and Trippier numerous times. Not sure his final product will continue to be reliable though, and so would like to see another option in his position too.

The second article is really interesting.

On that list of the most give and go goals over the last 4 years, he is top with 6. On the same list both Salah and Mane have 5.

Salah and Mane benefitted a lot from Firmino dropping into space to receive the ball and then playing them in behind, or just from making runs in behind when Firmino created space from dropping deep, with other players then playing them in.

Think Almiron did a great job of this kind of movement last season and he got a lot of goals from it, but we didn't have the same kind of similar threat on the left side. I think Barnes adds that balance.

With the way Isak plays as a CF, dropping off the front and linking play, I could see Gordon being used as a replacement for him for sure.

Assuming this Barnes thing is a goer, I'm quite interested to see who we bring in at RW. I've been expecting our wing additions to be more creative types who can pick a pass... but with Barnes coming in I do wonder if Eddie wants the wide forwards to be more goalscorer types with Isak bordering on playing as a false nine.

Yeah, when the ball goes into Isak's feet, Barnes will definitely  look to make runs in behind for him.

Not something that comes as naturally to ASM who looks to receive the ball short and run at people more often than not.

Could see Barnes scoring a lot in the current Newcastle setup alongside Isak.

It's not a sexy signing, but if you watch his highlights he strikes the ball really sweetly. Not surprising he scores that many goals, I don't think any of our current wide players come close to that sort of shooting prowess.

With both feet too. And has that lovely curled finish cutting in from the left.

We really could do with better shooting from those areas.

I wonder what Howe’s plans for Gordon are, is he going to see him as an attacking midfielder? Play him on the right? That’s one of the biggest mysteries going into this season

Has done well for the England under 21s up top.

Will probably end being an option there as Wilson's fitness is always a concern.

Sure will also still cover in both wide positions too.

  6. Barnes is very much a wide forward. Really great production as a goal getter from wide. Done it for a number of years now in the Prem and is still a good age.

Not always the easiest on the eye, but love the production. Really good signing for what seems a pretty fair price.

We apparently rejected £85m for Botman before they moved on to Gvardiol.

Edit: just seen the source. Nufcblog.co.uk FFS.

There's some reports saying they enquired, so maybe that was the case.

A lot of noise that we were in touch with Sporting about Inacio who is a similar profile to Botman.

Maybe we did some due diligence incase Man City put together a crazy offer for Botman.

    Ok cool.

But they are a very small minority and do not represent the huge majority of us…

Yes, I understand that this is likely the case.

Unfortunately though, over the years the demoralisation from this stuff just builds up, and you just end up at the point where you'd rather just not see these guys have to deal with it anymore, and you'd rather not have to put up with these kind of reports either.

I mean it is extreme that you don't think black players should represent England because we secretly don't want it.

I honestly think Saka and Bellingham are probably the two most loved England players in the current squad.

The problem is when this stuff continues to happen, this is unfortunately how it ultimately gets received. I know it's uncomfortable for you guys to hear this, but I'm just being honest with you.

This is a crazy statement Kaka.

If you have ever studied politics or sociology you will know that the two extremes of the bell curve are where you will find “radicals” who are capable of triggering interest (media) and blowing things out of proportion.

I also find it flabbergasting that people would not want their best players in their team because of the colour of their skin, it makes no sense.
We all at times want ASM out of the team for his lack of defensive work and huffs, but I have never ever heard anyone criticise his involvement because of his colour.

As for england; I stopped going to England games over twenty years ago because it seemed to me that they attracted the scum of the earth(bell-ends again!)  worst support I have seen in my life! Would never go back.

If you were using only the people who attend england games as your base statistic, then I could possibly see where you are coming from…

buzza ... there was a full conversation that went on about this where I had to clear up a misunderstanding with the guy that originally quoted my post, and so you'll have to read through that.

Ultimately though, my comment on not wanting black players in the team was in reference to the national setup, and even in your post, you've kind of touched upon what I was referring to in regards to England supporters, because I too have been around that kind of England support, and so I know exactly what I was referring to, when I made that statement.

It's part of the reason I don't think black players should play for England because I think deep down you guys don't really want it, but just aren't being honest about that.

so is it “you guys” or “most England fans”? For the record my vote is for black players to play for England. Only the good ones though. Yeah?

For the record I think it's fine if 'you guys' or 'most England fans', whichever you prefer, don't want us to play for England. My national team would actually benefit massively from that.

You'll see from my original post with that quote that I didn't give the poster grief for the idea, when I mistakenly thought he was referencing my point on African and South American players taking another option.

This was never supposed to be an argument about racism, but I know it's a topic that gets people really excited, but I've done my best to make my point clearer. Apparently it's not enough for you, so I won't bother responding to you anymore because you clearly just want to continue to argue about this.

Fair enough Kaka, looks like some of this has been mutual misunderstanding - but I’d still ask you to rethink the notions of English people generally not wanting black players in the England side.  There are racists in England and racists in the press - but that doesn’t account for everyone

Yeah. Lets just leave it here, because it appears I'm just not doing a good job of getting my point across.

I would say this though, if you have any really good friends that are black and that you can really speak freely with. Just ask them what their thoughts are on what I said, I think you might be a bit saddened by what you hear from them.

  13. Just now, TheBrownBottle said:

I’m happy to say that I can see where you’re coming from re African & SA players looking elsewhere - no-one should be putting up with racist abuse anywhere in life, let alone on a football pitch.

My point was always that I’m not bothered if English clubs can’t compete for the best players if it means we have better ownership models.  I’ve no issue re the nationality of the players playing for NUFC - and the money reducing wouldn’t see a reduction in the number of foreign-born players playing would be my guess.

I’m aware of course where tribalism can lead - but for me in football terms it’s mainly good-natured.  Go to the Sunderland thread if you want to see what I mean - that’s tribalism but it’s just piss-taking rather than venom.

This is where the confusion has come from because I wasn't talking about that in the post you responded too, and so thought you were speaking about what I had said.

  14. Just now, TheBrownBottle said:

I’ve never reported you nor anyone else - I’d rather just call you a prick and have done with it. ‘Don’t start with me’ - you’re not my mam.

You completely misinterpreted what I said and decided to call me a racist - and everyone else with the same nationality by proxy.  I said that I don’t care if the money leaves English football as I don’t watch it because of the money attracting the world’s best players.  I absolutely did not suggest that I wanted an all-white English league.   You decided to apply that interpretation.

No. If I wanted to call you all racists I would have said exactly that. You guys throw that stuff around at each other all the time on here.

I said I don't believe most England fans want black players playing for them. I'm not an idiot man. I have been out watching games numerous times among fans. I know the kinds of things I have seen and heard, and no I do not think it is just a case of them being racist. You lot use that term way too loosely and flippantly. I believe there is some tribal element also involved in regard to international representation as well.

I was talking about African and South American players going elsewhere originally and not the world's best players, which is why I then drew the correlation on what you said in response to my post, when you then spoke of tribalism.

  15. 6 minutes ago, TheBrownBottle said:

Tribalism isn’t fucking racism you fucking tit.  I was talking about being from Newcastle therefore supporting Newcastle irrespective of the quality of the team you’re watching.  It isn’t fucking race-based.  People watching their local team regardless of whether they’re the world’s best side or bottom of the fourth division.

Which is why I separated the two things in the very thing you quoted, so don't start with me because when I respond in kind you'll all start getting over emotional about it and reporting me to get banned like last time.

  16. 2 minutes ago, Shearergol said:

Why aren’t you understanding this? If you’d said “the racist actions of a number of England fans may drive black players away” nobody would have argued with you. You’ve called pretty much everyone out on here as being racist. It’s bizarre and nonsensical

Easy for you to say when you're not the one that has to put up with the nonsense all the time. And for the record I did not call anyone racist and never even used the word. My response was to the guy that said it was a tribal thing, and I was following on from that, because I believe it is tied into that kind of thinking in some way.
