You’re so negative these days, I love it.

What kind of evil is this

This man is out here revelling in people descending into a dark place

This thread will be a hoot the next 20 pages of doom and agony.

I don't know why anyone would log in and be checking all the time if they have such a nervous disposition, and every rejected bid rattles them so much

Just wait till you hear that someone has officially signed, or wait till the end of the window and check back in then

Liking the fact that he might be versatile enough to play across the front-three but also in midfield as suggested, despite Watford fans not seeing him as a #9. Hoping we sign him, but will be disappointed if he's our only remaining signing tbf

I can't see why he'd be our only remaining signing. Minimum we'll get at least one other alongside him IMO.

I'm not worried about his finishing to be honest. Those Watford teams by all accounts haven't been sides that use the ball well, and so he's likely having to drop more to link play and create chances, without then getting chances created as much for him once he gets further forward himself.

When used up front, in actuality I'm more excited about his ability to get on the ball, not lose it, and initiate some build up play, because for me these are the absolute worst aspects of Chris Wood. In this 4-3-3 we need someone that can do that when Wilson doesn't play.

''So far this season (in his position) he leads the Championship for dribbles, open play clear cut chances created, defensive duels & progressive passes. He’s got great ball striking ability, but his shot selection needs work. Get his decision making right and boyyyyyyy oh boy''

Sounds very promising. Thought he had a shit start to the season?

Some people have the foresight and vision and others just don't, and they just won't get it.

I'm hoping we sign the kid. He looks to be very talented. When he joins and starts getting some game time then the fun will begin.

Think the actual key point in his tweet is it's now pretty much confirmed that Pedro wants the move. Likely explains why it's not a huge increase. Gaming it out, I'd say this bid gets rejected, Pedro's agent rocks the boat a little, then the next bid with a small increase (maybe around 24m + 3m add one) gets accepted. I reckon we will see him holding a shirt by the middle of next week.

Other tweaks could have also been made to the structure of the deal to make the offer more enticing.

More money upfront, paying the full amount over a shorter period of time etc.

IF we did sell him, what sort of price do you think it’d take?

    £80m?

He's ranking in 1st in multiple categories in the Premier League since he joined, and he's only 8 months into his deal with us. He's also still young at just 24 years of age. He's our best player.

Coutinho went to Barca for around £100 million plus add-ons in 2018. For conversations to even begin they'd have to start from £100 million, and we'd walk them further up from there.

We are not going to be immune or unique in losing our best or better players regardless. Man Utd lost Ronaldo, Real Madrid too. Barcelona Messi and Neymar. We sold Cole. It’s going to happen at some point, the key is to attain some level of success while we have these top players like the bigger clubs do.

Absolutely. We are actually in a position now where any such sales should actually propel us further much quicker and so it's going to be a hell of a ride either way.

We'll get to the top level eventually you'd think but if we're going to be keeping our best players now for longer than another year or two, it'll naturally happen unless we instantly challenge top 4. Even then if it's Real Madrid or Barcelona and they're South American, that's too big a lure (Coutinho, Luis Suarez, etc).

Yeah, if we have players excelling like Bruno has it will only be the very top clubs that would really be a worry, because we'd be able to ask for absolute top money.

I don't think it's going to be a typical scenario or very common.

As far as I know Real Madrid haven't come in for him, there has just been some speculation about it which has been posted here in the last hour. I think we are jumping the gun a little bit writing farewell letters and putting loaded guns to our heads ready for his departure.

We're just discussing it like any other topic.

I am not upset about it at all. This is just the way the game works man.

  10. 1 minute ago, HTT II said:

Unless we get European football soon, the likes of Bruno won’t hang around long, whether it’s Real Madrid in for him or say AC Milan. It’s imperative we get European football soon.

I don't agree. AC Milan couldn't even afford Botman.

We're talking about clubs that would have to be ready to pay over 100 million, because we can currently justify asking for that.

  11. 2 minutes ago, Gaztoon said:

One thing I won't let happen is let the potential of players leaving ruin this next few years of watching the club grow and build..

If players want to go because we're not at a place they want yet...then let them leave.. this is far bigger than one player being happy.

Bruno has been amazing and joined us while we were in the bottom three. I could never fault the guy if this ended up happening. like I already said it's quite a unique opportunity.

The way the club is setup now. Any such sale is only going to mean we can actually take the next steps quicker and build up the squad in more areas. It will not be sending us backwards at all.

  12. 2 minutes ago, HTT II said:

If we can add two top quality attacking players, I genuinely feel we can have a shot at the top 6, but if we finish mid-table again, it will be like a missed opportunity and none of our better players will want to hang around to go again next season to aim for 8th or something. Go big or go home as they say!

That is not true. I think this is a particularly unique situation with Real Madrid coming in for him, especially with the likes of Modric and Kroos coming to the end of their run.

I don't foresee any kind of realistic progress that keeps him here, even if we finish top 6. If Madrid don't have the money and try to offer a silly fee, then we can hold them off because Bruno I don't think would force a move if they aren't paying what we want for him. If they put up the money though, then I think it would be inevitable.

  13. 10 minutes ago, AJ9 said:

I mean, I think we will have to get used to losing players that way to get to where we want to be. Surely the plan is to buy and then sell at the right time and use that as a way of building the club. If a club came in with silly money sure we would move him on, it’s just about timing.

I don't necessarily think we will be looking to do that as an approach per se.

But with where we are currently at, it is possible that if we get a player in and they far exceed expectations enough to attract the very top clubs, then we might find that we will have to sell.

But those clubs will have to reward us very handsomely too, and so that will also be an opportunity for us to fast track our progress as a club as well, because the team can then be improved upon and built up faster.

In todays episode of "what can newcastle fans worry about today"

    BRUNO COULD LEAVE

    ?

For me It's not a worry. I'm just saying what I think the situation is.

He's come in and absolutely knocked it out of the park with us and far surpassed any kind of progress we could likely make in the short term.

And so unfortunately the likes of Real Madrid are now at our doorstep. Just one of those things. Yes, it's a shame, but it's still a huge win for the scouts because they absolutely got it right, and they'll just have to go again, but with a lot more money to play with.

The lad is ridiculously talented, top clubs would be mad not to be keeping an eye on him.

Real Madrid are probably only a handful of clubs that can afford him. Given Casemiro, Modric and Kroos aren't getting any younger, a link was inevitable.

The lad will make it to the top of the game eventually, whether it's with us or otherwise. He took a massive gamble on us, 19th in the table and relegation looking a real possibility. That was only six months ago, so I don't think he'll be in a rush to leave. It all depends how for how long our progress is able to match his ambition.

    Exactly, precisely all of that.

I also agree he will not be causing a fuss to leave, but I do think Real Madrid could possibly offer crazy money, and if so I don't think we'd necessarily fight to hold him back, as they will be offering him a top salary too.

Madrid are transitioning their midfield like you said. They've got fresh athletic legs in there in Camavinga and Tchouameni, and so they're likely looking for a new young orchestrator alongside them, which is where Bruno would come in.

Might be a bit too late for this summer now, but who knows man. Not to mention another year with us only adds another what ... 50 million to 80 million to his price?

  16. 1 minute ago, relámpago blanco said:

He's not going anywhere this summer mate.

It might be too late in the window, sure. But crazier things have happened.

News broke of Real Madrid having an eye on him already from around April. All just depends on how much money they have to throw around.

Coutinho cost Barca 120 million Euros from Liverpool plus 40 million Euros in add-ons. If they start talking that kind of money ...

  17. 1 minute ago, reefatoon said:

Well to keep Kaka happy. Imagine signing 16 players in the summer and Colback still playing 50% of the games makes it even more atrocious.

O'Brien and Mangala were signed to bury him on the bench, and rightfully so.

It's the reason I imagine they're having to sign so many players, so the likes of Colback will never see the light of day for them in the Prem.

I'd expect us to get at least another full season out of him but it's a reminder that we can't stand still if we want to retain his elite level of talent.

1 minute ago, relámpago blanco said:

Yeah, this is what I think we need to progress or he'll be rightly off to a top CL club.

There's no progress that can be made that quick. It's a credit to how great he's been so quickly.

Having read the article they are fully aware of all the ridiculous stats he's been achieving.

In my opinion he's pretty much gone ... they will likely have to pay a record breaking fee to get him though, and they'll likely be able to justify it to themselves due to his age.

Been a terribly short, but very sweet ride if they can manage this by the time the window closes. Really ironic that the catalyst will end up being Man United. Just unbelievable.
