Bad day at the office but he’s genuinely one of the hottest cb prospects in world football. Would be quite the statement signing imo.

Indeed. And if you're going to try and start discussions over a player whose price you'd like to try and negotiate down, doing so after that showing is certainly the way to go.

There are so many repeat explanations in these various threads re: how it’s come to this.

It’s not desperation to be selling squad players / unknown quantity players to make money. Desperation would be being forced to sell multiple big name starters in order to survive or to avoid a big points deduction.

At worst this is frustrating and bemusing.

There's a clear split among posters in the thinking regarding all of this.

Once the window closes and the games start, then we'll see what side things fall on.

Regardless of what we could and should have done, and regardless of the ridiculous rules in place, my enthusiasm for a new football season is at an all time low.

As long as we keep our core players we are going to be very good this season.

Outside of Man City and Arsenal the league is wide open.

Personally, I can't wait for the actual football to kick off.

We really should have sold Trippier in January.

There was a ton of resistance to it at the time, which I didn't get.

He was having a poor season and is a 33 year old full back. We also had Tino coming along nicely, and Krafth to also fill in.

    Big missed opportunity.

Gordon has always been much better in general play. Even if not a genuinely creative/flair type of player.

Yeah, I would agree. That's why I said a similar profile.

Speed, work rate, runs in behind and ball carrying would be the traits they share.

From the little I have seen and read, he would be an ideal replacement for Miggy/Murpgy but not the Bruno/Isak level RW most are hoping for ?

Much more dangerous than Miggy and Murphy.

Ideally, would come in as a squad player initially, but then I also think his upside is huge.

Could just as easily see him come into the team and reach a higher level quickly, similar to what Gordon did last year. He's a similar type of profile to what Gordon was coming out of Everton.

One good thing is that we have a good relationship with Forest, perhaps the Charnley connection.
Wood, Shelvey etc. They've got decent players who have youth on their side. Better than having a friendly connection with an Everton.

I'd be tempted to discuss Murillo and get the RCB issue sorted (even tho he plays LCB) instead. Get Murillo and Elanga for Minteh and Anderson plus cash. The other alternative is Awoniyi as the Isak back up - he's a good DCL alternative

Or of course MGW but he's their crown jewel so wouldn't even mind swapping Willock

Wood really ended up doing well for them and helped them stay up, which certainly helps relations even further.

What does "muddy PSR compliance" mean? How does leaking fake news items change how much we've spent over the last three years?

Yeah, not sure what he was getting at.

However, all this noise being out there and getting headlines, would definitely be a good cover or distraction for the deals we are actually working on. Also gives the impression we are struggling financially, which could help get us better deals in the market.

Is Elanga good enough to be the top class RW we need ? Genuine question as I’ve not watched him much.

Wouldn't describe him as top class, no.

Really dangerous player though, as he's incredibly fast, carries the ball, and makes runs in behind. 5 goals and 9 assists for Forest in his first season as a starter in the league, for his age, is really decent.

Ideally, we'd sign a first team right winger and add Elanga as the squad option. With Almiron leaving.

Outside of Olise, I'm struggling to see which right winger of that calibre we could get. Wolves are talking about £60 million for Neto, and that is a big number, when you look at his injury history. Mbeumo would be a good addition, but at the £50 million Brentford want, not so sure.

Do we then go for someone like Elanga as the starter at a £25 million type fee, and use the extra budget on a better centre back and the Georgian goalie? And a top young prospect that can play upfront and out wide like Moukoko?

Going to be interesting to see what the thinking is. The right winger options aren't looking to plentiful, which is why I think we really made an effort for Olise.

True but he did have a good season. Five goals and nine assists in a poor team, and only 22. Would be a fun link if it wasn't juxtaposed next to a story about Gordon going to Liverpool.

Yeah, had a decent season. Would be cool for Isak too, signing another Swedish player.

  11. Optimum window to get a lot of people clicking on and reading articles due to this PSR thing. Trying to rile folks up.

Was just the other day the Chronicle was stating the ownership were very relaxed, approaching the deadline.

  12. That daily mail article also says we are interested in Elanga and a deal with Forest has been discussed, with Anderson involved and going the other way.

I find some of the Barnes comments pretty harsh. Aye, he had an underwhelming first season, but this was largely due to injury. The injury then allowed Gordon a chance to nail down that left side they were probably going to compete for.

But even then, coming on as an impact sub, he probably won us 4 points (West Ham win, Luton draw). Was irrelevant after the FA Cup, but this was the difference between 7th and 8th. I know he is more limited than Gordon, but he is great to have in the squad.

    Yup.

Gordon had a great break out season, but there was absolutely no guarantees that would be the case. He was very much somewhat of a raw prospect when we bought him, without any history of a significant output in the Premier League.

Can totally see why they also went for Barnes on that left side, who had shown he could consistently contribute goals and assists in the league.

I get it, honestly. It's a shit choice but I genuinely would rather keep him and see and lose a few points.

I can totally see why others think it's better to cash in early and not take the hit too, it's a gamble and there isn't a correct answer yet. We shouldn't even have to be having the conversation if it wasn't for the bullshit rules but here we are :hmm:

It won't always be this way all the time. We need a bit of patience.

Mike Ashley set the club back so far with the lack of financial deals and zero investment in the academy.

It will all come along eventually.

11 goals and 6 assists at a higher level I would say. And his underlying performance data in some key areas (xg, take ons) is as good as it gets in that division.

You can’t argue that Minteh’s trajectory (so far) is not excellent. His trajectory is at least on par with Olise at the same age if not better imo.

He’s not the finished article. But his potential is of someone that would be perfect for our weakest position in the field. If we could shift players ahead of him like Miggy, even Wilson - we would.

I also think the club or publicising Isak interest. Because that’s the only type of transfer alternative we have.

I'm taking Olise's production in the Championship, personally.

Don't think you can say Minteh's trajectory is higher playing in the Eredevise for a top two team that actually won the title the year before.

  16. 1 minute ago, midds said:

And so can we. Especially when our RW id the very area of the first XI that is in desperate need of upgrading. He's worth the risk imo. If you don't agree then that's fine too.

Yeah, we just don't agree on this.

I don't want a points deduction, and I don't want to go into the season wondering if Minteh can cut it as our starter on the right wing.

  17. Just now, midds said:

Why on earth do 4 or 5 clubs want him to warm their bench then? You're trying to suggest that all of these clubs are willing to spend £25m+ to warm a bench?

There's clearly a lot of talent there. He plays in an area where we have a distinct lack of ability/product. He could be perfect for us right now

Because he's a 19 year old talented prospect they can develop.

Brighton have Ferguson sitting on the bench a bunch behind Welbeck, and he's just as big a talent if not moreso.

If it's a priority position then let's at least have a look at the lad that other clubs are supposedly looking at dropping £40m on? Let's make that decision after we've had him for a pre-season and if it costs us 2 or 3 points next year then fair enough. He might just save us shelling out £50m for a RW and that's money we could spend elsewhere?

We have a gaping hole at RW and this lad may be the answer. I just don't want to move him on before we've had a chance to look at him first. I realise it's a risk with the breach of PSR but I'm not bothered about that shit, I'd quite welcome it tbph.

I think they have been keeping an eye on him already, and the talk was that he would likely go out on loan again. However, they were going to look at him over preseason to see if he could be a part of the squad, although that was mentioned when we were in with a chance of Europe.

Don't think he's been viewed as a viable starter on the right side at this stage of his development at all.

Why do so many people want to just take a points deduction for a player they've never even seen play? [emoji38]

Unless your only ambition for that season is to not get relegated then a points deduction is disastrous.

We've got a decent start to the season too!

Imagine winning a bunch of those games and having 1 point or something ridiculous like that [emoji38]

Nobody has any idea what offers we could receive? Fraser I think will certainly go, Miggy, Wilson, Targett, Anderson, Longstaff,  if offers came in for these, I'm sure we'll be listening.  We've got weeks and weeks of this, I'm sure there's only our fans that think our players are unsellable, but I'll remind you, we shifted out both Shelvey and Wood to Forest.

We don't have weeks and weeks to make a sale though. That's the problem.

  21. 3 minutes ago, SUPERTOON said:

Would people prefer him to go to Brighton for straight cash, or a swap deal for DCL (assuming both get is out of bother with PSR) ?

Straight cash. Allows us far more flexibility in the market.

And even if the club really wants DCL, his price is only going to continue to go down through the summer, and so will only get him for cheaper towards the end of the window.

  22. 2 minutes ago, midds said:

We have better cover there though. Right now we have Almiron, Murphy and Minteh to play RW. Sell Minteh and don't replace him and see the same impotent right hand side failing to contribute and it'll be a massive L

    This goes without saying.

However, it is nigh on impossible this happens.

We've already tried to get one of the best right wingers in the league.

It's also been made very clear this is a priority position this summer, and a good chunk of the budget will go towards it.
