  1. Think all these outlets are just enjoying all of the clicks they're getting off of Newcastle news. Not sure I trust most of these links to players at all at this point.

Totally agree, I posted the same thing a few days ago.

I was really looking forward to the January window for the first time in years but all the rubbish linking us with everyone has become boring and annoying.

As of last week someone calculated around 75 names we had been linked with....absolutely fucking ridiculous.

Agents being agents man. Slimy lot.

Azmoun just seems like a no brainer to me. Can't even begin to understand what the hesitation might be. Not like his wages'll be astronomical.

Would love to see the ins and outs of a transfer.

I like the look of Azmoun from the little I've seen. Incredibly rapid and a pretty cool finisher.

Also really like Cabral at Basel due to his physicality and finishing in the box. Apparently Basel are asking for 17 million euros, which is pretty decent.

Have to admit, I’m becoming bored of the constant barrage of tweets linking us to every player under the sun.

Chill out man. We'll get some decent players in eventually. Got to be better than being linked to just Choudhury on loan for all of the summer.

Well it's not been a good job so far by the looks of it right now. Hopefully that changes in the next couple of days....

I think the team are being a bit too ambitious IMO in our current predicament.

They should have focused on targets other clubs were eager to get rid of due to their contracts running down, or targets that other clubs were happy to loan out to get them off their wage bill. These moves would have been possible to do a lot more quickly.

Another option would have been really taking a hard look at prospects in lesser leagues where reasonable fees can be paid and negotiations aren't as tedious. There are some interesting players we have been linked with that can be had for reasonable fees by all accounts, but it appears we are not confident in taking them on e.g. Cabral at Basel, Barbosa at Flamengo and Azmoun at Zenit.

Massive names. We’re after relative unknowns and getting the run-around

Relative unknowns to you perhaps, yes.

The players we have been looking at are highly rated prospects that a lot of other top clubs are interested in, mostly for summer transfers, which is why their current clubs are more inclined to hold onto them until then when they will have more interest and could possible get more money.

Can we just step back a minute.

Do we honestly think that at every single step of our transfer discussion, that NUFC are briefing these people at all.  I mean say NUFC have decided to make an offer, would they then leak this or put this info out to certain individuals?   No way would they be doing that - it is all complete bullshit now!

They need to clicks and so are just making things up and put NUFC name against it as we are in the market for players.

Not wasting my time on this anymore.  Going to turn on notifications from NUFC official site and turn off looking in forums.   Its driving me mad!

See you in 10 mins pal

You don’t need one but you need someone experienced within football to broker deals, whether that is a DoF or not. They also bring tons of contacts/players they’ve watched etc.

Imo it was a necessary thing for this window as we needed to act sharp and decisively. I mean is Nickson our head of recruitment at the minute?

Yes, we have an experienced head of recruitment in Nickson and brought in Hammond for added experience and assistance in brokering deals for this month.

  9. I don't know why people think without a DOF you can't sign players. There are numerous clubs that don't even have one in place. Besides we know for a fact that there are football people working alongside the new owners to assist in bringing in players, so I doubt that is where the issue lies.

I just think clubs are trying to apply as much pressure as they can to get the highest fees possible. From their point of view it is only the start of January and so they are in no hurry and are looking to go for higher fees knowing that we are eager to tie deals up quickly as we can't really afford to wait until the end of the month.

Never seems to be the same shenanigans  when the “big” clubs sign players. None of this rejected shite. They just seem to get the deal done.

    What?

Did you miss the Kane to Man City nonsense or even how long it took them to sort Grealish? Or Man Utd haggling to agree the Sancho fee as well this summer?

Come on people this is getting ridiculous.

  11. I think we have been looking at bringing in a couple of strikers. One youngster good enough to be a squad player and develop further along with a more experienced one.

For the younger prospect I think it came down to a choice between Ekitike and the kid at Luton we have been watching Adebayo. Think Ekitike is a more high profile signing and looks a more refined and top tier prospect. Watching his clips he looks the more technical and skilled player. Think he looks a really exciting young talent.

Be interesting to see who the more experienced striker we bring in will be.

The persistence with Ritchie at left back is worrying, especially when Manquillo is on the bench. Ritchie was never that great, is long past his best, and isn't a left back. He can't even hold the line.

Howe's system places a big importance on full backs that are forward thinking and that can pass the ball and deliver quality crosses into the box on overlaps. It's why he keeps using Ritchie there, as we legit do not have any other left footed full back with any kind of ability at the minute.

  13. Getting highly rated players in January is more likely to take a while, as the clubs will tend to want to try and get as much as possible and also see if they can get other clubs to get involved too.

Really tough situation we're in. Think we should have mainly focused on players running down their contracts that clubs are more likely to be eager to move on, and so there would be more straightforward negotiations. And also perhaps looking for players in lesser leagues where the prices tend to be less and therefore negotiations easier too.

It seems we are aiming for some top echelon players as a starting point to see if any of those could possibly be had at this time, but it's likely to take a while and I'm not sure we can afford to waste too much time with that at this stage.

Strikers really should be the main focus at the minute, as we don't have any available. The likes of Cabral, Morelos, Nketiah, Barbosa, Dembele, Larin and Azmoun seem to be the easiest to negotiate moves for from the strikers we have been linked with, and so we should really be able to select two of the best suited from that list, and get them in quickly now.

In a sense I'd be OK with the bad result in that the relegation battle trumps all but I'm afraid, as other have voiced, that players are gonna run for the hills when approached seeing this kind of results.

Nah, don't think this game puts them off. We are after them because we are desperately trying to right things at the club after all.

I think the only impact it might have would perhaps be in them asking for an extra cheeky £10,000 a week.

Not only character but some basic football intelligence wouldn’t go amiss either.

Yes, of course. Ability first, but my God we need some players with some fire in their belly. It's absolutely ridiculous, honestly.

  16. Been thinking about some of the players we've been linked with and I really think we need to take personality on the pitch into consideration big time.

Just as an example, this past week we've been linked with Martial who is top quality, but the way our team is, I'd be very worried about him coming in as he can be quite moody and loves a sulk. Alternatively, I also saw us linked with Morelos from Rangers, who always plays on the edge and is very fiery and competitive, and gets the crowd and his team going with his antics.

Think we need to really consider looking at players more in line with the latter's personality traits because these current lot are so depressingly timid and nervous and we need to rid the team of that characteristic.

  17. Think we really need to consider getting a goalkeeper in too.

Dubravka is an absolute joke on the goal. Makes a mess off things in the first place and then when trying to recover the ball I think he gets nicked and he lays there waiting for the ref to bail him out as they go ahead and score.

Our current players are always looking for the easy way out constantly. It's really just so pathetic.

Sugar glass nerves, they look so easily broken.

I also think that under Rafa he knew the players weaknesses and would only ask them to do what he knew they could do and built his team around their strengths, whereas a manager like Howe has a way he wants to play and the players are an extension of that philosophy meaning their deficiencies are glaringly obvious.

It's pretty clear that this is ultimately the issue.

The new owners ultimately decided to go with a manager whose philosophy is to play attacking football, and they felt that with the signings in January it would ultimately see the teams fortunes turn around, and the fans would appreciate that style more. I still think that will indeed ultimately be the case too.

The alternative would have been to go for a more defensive minded manager to try and grind out results and keep the team up, but then do you just stick with that longer term after? And if they had gone that route would you then back such a manager with players for that style in January if that's not how you ultimately want the side to play going forward?

If they really believe in Howe's philosophy and overall approach then just get him in and let him start building this thing with them from the ground up. If we are able to get players in that then gel better with the manager and keep us up then great, and if not, if we do end up going down for a year then so be it, and we'll just have to re-start from there.

Howe has improved us tactically, to claim otherwise is pure revisionism built upon post match fewm after one admittedly unforgivable, rancid result. We should've beaten Brentford, Darlow was a bellend. We should've had a pen in the first half at Arsenal. We went down to 10 men v Norwich after 9 minutes and still deserved to win the game and probably would've won 11v11. Strength of our 2nd half display v Burnley warranted the result we got. Leicester got a bollocks penalty at 0-0 which would've been a fair reflection of that match after 45 minutes, second half was poor but the game wasn't a 4-0 on the balance of it. A goal that is stopped in the buildup 9/10 times and an individual error v Liverpool. Clark being shit, individual errors and shite refereeing cost us v Man City which wasn't on the balance a 0-4 game. Man Utd we deserved to win.

Today he deserves flak as the result is just purely embarrassing. Even though he's trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, he's clearly improved us tactically. Today doesn't change that.

Seeing some of the reactions on here the new lot should have just left Bruce in charge until January. The fat mess wasted all our decent fixtures and then trotted off once the harder games came along.

He keeps losing games . Fact. Losing more than the previous clown. At least the previous clown didn’t lose against lower league opponents. Dare I say it Bruce led squad wins today.

We hadn't won a single game under Bruce you goof

  21. Looking forward to seeing the team play once he gets in players that are capable of following his game plan.

Hope after today they have added another couple of players to the number they were looking at bringing in beforehand.

The beauty of that sequence is how he had also seen the run by his teammate in his periphery while pulling off that touch, and then he released the ball to him right away.

ASM would have started trying to dribble their whole team from that position ... same thing every single time man. Like, switch it up occasionally please!

MiGhT as well get Shearer out of retirement. Better than Gayle, ASM or Joelinton to stick the ball in the back of the net.

I would absolutely give that a go if he was up for it
