Not read it, but I did see some stats on his heading and it was impressive.  I know Burnley love hoofing it up there and getting crosses in, so not sure how it translates as percentages.  But I think he was first for aerial duels won, 3rd for headed shots and 2nd for headers on target.

I know he's a lump, but I don't think it's like he's just an out and out target man in the mould of someone like Carroll.  There is a bit more nuance to his game than that when I have seen him and I don't think he is slow for his size, by any means.

I still think this will be end up being a decent enough, whilst not the most inspiring signing and I'm not as down on it as some on here.

Yeah, I think he's very good in the air that's for sure, and he does seem to have really decent speed for his size too.

I was referring more to his play style, in the sense that I don't think he's one that looks to drop into space and come towards the ball to link play. I think Ashley Barnes probably did more of that at Burnley, while Wood looked to stretch teams with runs in behind.

Seriously, this day of AFCON has been a disgrace  They played the wrong anthem for Mauritania (the old one, it changed a few years ago) on three separate occasions, spent five minutes trying to find the new one and then told the players to sing it themselves and just started the match. These people are not right in their head.

The number of fellow African friends hitting me up today lamenting this nonsense man

We really don't help ourselves. Lord have mercy!

He's an absolute shithouse too which means we have to get him. The balls on him to celebrate in front of Marseille fans after he scored against them with all the crowd trouble going on in France atm is worth top dollar on it's own.

Yeah, love his confidence. Really think this team needs a lot more characters in that regard, that don't wilt under the slightest bit of adversity.

  4. Reading up more on him, I think the big thing that has really got this guy noticed by our bunch, aside from his forward play and goal scoring ability is the work rate and pressing off the ball, which Howe places a lot of importance on, and really values from his front men.

If we’re going for Carlos and Badashile then we’re not going for Botman

Shame, was hoping we’d get him in.

Badiashile is right up there with Botman as a prospect. Getting either one of them would be class.

Botman is the more robust of the two, while Badiashile is more speedy/athletic.

  6. Signed him as an understudy to Lenglet in my first season on FM 22 a couple of months ago.

Lenglet got injured for 6 months early on and so had to start this guy and he ended up winning young player of the year in the premier league ...

By my calculations this one will definitely happen and he is going to be brilliant.

This is a similar signing to Ferdinand for us. A standout player in a team that struggles in t he lower parts of the league, powerful, good shot, good in the air. Hopefully he can do half as much as Sir Les and for that he'll be eternally thanked.

From a stylistic point of view, I can kind of see what you mean.

I see him purely as a short terms signing, if we weren't in trouble, we'd have waited and got someone in who is a bit more mobile. But at the same time, I think he'll be a massive success, and might end up getting cult status like Kilcline and Kelly by the time he's finished here.

The thing is this guy is definitely mobile from what I can see. Think people expecting a statue of a target man are going to be surprised.

I think it's his two-footedness which impresses me most. He referred to it in that FIFA interview video someone posted a few pages back. Admittedly we're only watching his highlight reel here, and Shola looked like a world beater in his. (I am in no way suggesting he's of Shola's low standard!

I love the conviction in his finishing. Makes a decision on how to take the chance very quickly and strikes the ball really well. No dilly dallying whatsoever.

Not gonna lie I watched that Shola compilation that was posted the other day, and even on his goal highlights I cringed and still thought he was going to miss those chances. Still looked really clumsy and unconvincing, so with all due respect I disagree on that point wholeheartedly!

This is actually a very impressive collection of goals.

Surprised at how much he gets in behind and how quick he looks in these. Think this guy is going to make a big difference for us.

I know he's a big guy, but is he actually a target man type? Seems to look to get in behind more than coming short and holding up the ball. Seems to me that Barnes was more of the guy that played the target man role.

Gleison Bremer is supposed to be really good. Same agency as Trippier and Wood.

Wow ... very interesting. Good info

Looks like we have good relationships with that agency then.

Reading up on Bremer as I don't know much about him at all, and it all sounds very good. Seems to be a powerful, dominant centre back.

Hopefully dealing with Torino shouldn't be as much of a nightmare as they aren't in Europe or anything and aren't one of the bigger clubs.

  12. Think the club has opted to go the premier league experience route and just don't feel they can take risks on players from abroad, particularly for one of the strikers coming in, and it kind of makes sense I think, especially after Saturday's pathetic efforts.

It's a very sensible signing as his record and presence on the pitch has been fantastic for Burnley in the premier league. He's scored goals for them and he brings physicality and intimidation. He's not a shrinking violet like so many of our current pansies. Not the exciting name we were hoping for, but I have no doubt that will come in the summer, and Wood can then transition to being a solid experienced squad player, which would be in line with his age.

In my opinion I think he is going to score goals for us. He'll have a lot of motivation moving to the club where one of his idols played and was a legend, and I have no doubt Shearer will be in touch with him, geeing him up too. Think he'll also relish getting a chance to play in a team that works the ball higher up the pitch more before creating chances. Burnley have been really strange this season, the only reliable service they get to their front men is from Dwight McNeil. It seemed they had bought Cornet to provide some decent service from the other side, but he has ended up playing upfront, albeit really well. I think Wood needs more reliable service and in my opinion he'll certainly get that from the likes of ASM, Fraser, Trippier and even Joelinton. The guy is geat in the air and hits the ball really well, he's going to score goals in this team.

Solid signing I think and very very shrewd. Personally, would have loved to see us take a look at some of the really interesting strikers from abroad like Cabral, Barbosa, Azmoun and even Morelos, but we are in such a state I can see why they've made this move instead. I think if we were comfortably in mid table we would have gone a different route for sure.

Think if we stay up in the summer we'll see one of Darwin Nunez, Alexander Isak or Patrick Schick then come in.

  13. No longer believe we are actually looking at this geezer. Every hour a new club is cited as being interested in him.

Someone is trying to drum up interest and is using Newcastle's name to make for splashy articles and to try and push for a big fee.

+ 10million for having the richest owners

    + 8million relegation desperation premium.

Nah, I think the Dutch, Belgian, Swiss, Austrian and some of those level of leagues are quite reasonable.

For the most part they sign most of the players they use at much lower prices and aren't necessary looking for massive profits as the players are not as experienced at a higher level, so there is still a bit of an element of risk.

For example Botman joined Lille for just over £7 million pounds in the summer of 2020, so only a year and a half ago. What we really need to be doing is identifying players like Botman that are still at that lower level and haven't moved yet, as those are the players that we can get in quickly for decent prices.

Our scouting needs to be on point though to ensure we are getting the right players that can most readily make the step up.

If we then manage to stay up we can then start looking at the more higher profile players.

Looks to be another left footed ball playing defender, which is clearly what Howe is looking for from one of his centre back signings. The scouting write ups on him are decent and some top clubs have been monitoring him it seems.

This is our best bet for now I think, as far as finding the best talent in the smaller leagues, as these transfers should be far more straightforward. He's apparently available for just under £17 million.

I said we need to secure a few signings before the window opens or else we would be in trouble. And some people asking where’s my diapers.

See? Every team are holding us ransom now. That’s the consequence.

In reality, none of us actually have any idea who we're actually bidding for and what is going on behind the scenes.
