The weird thing about all of this is if Southgate picked a more adventurous and attack minded team and England went out he'd still get some credit and less criticism I think. He's just asking for trouble with this defensive minded setup with so much attacking talent wasted on the bench. It's just so silly.

Mueller and Havertz dropping into those half spaces is going to be really bad news for England. Philips and Rice are going to be overwhelmed. Think maybe Southgate should have gone 3-5-2 instead to help deal with that.

Worried for England. Don't think you can beat this German team by being defensively solid, and that England team just doesn't look as threatening going forward.

However, Werner starting is definitely a good thing, as he'll probably spurn a bunch of decent chances.

Yes, absolutely. Unlike at Arsenal, far more well suited to a team that doesn't push up as high in their press and isn't as open, as he just isn't mobile enough. Was man of the match today IMO. Absolutely brilliant.
