  1. Andy Carroll was not signed as an alternative to Rondon so not sure why they're being held up against each other.

Joelinton was deemed a younger version of Rondon and was therefore signed to replace him.

Carroll is a freebie cheap option that wanted to come back home for low wages, and was deemed as worth bringing in, to ease Joelinton's transition to a new league, should he need some help.

Because when you want someone to mentor a young, foreign player who doesn't speak the language and has no support base, Andy Carroll is obviously the best man for the job.

Not as a mentor, but as a fill in for Joelinton should he struggle for form at any point.

  3. So, our centre forwards are Joelinton who may be good, Gayle who isn’t, Muto who nobody knows if he’s good, and a crock. Wohoo.

Going into last season might have been deemed worse but it turned out ok. Perez was hit and miss with a lot of people, Rondon was slated when signed, Muto the same as you have put for this season and Joselu was f***ing awful.

    It's so silly isn't it.

Unless it's someone that scored in the prem the year before they're not good enough. Same chat every summer.

  4. Man ... that is shocking from Everton. Iwobi for £40 million?!

40 million is a very reasonable price for a talented and relatively young player with an English passport. It is a good purchase for Everton.

I love Iwobi as a person and I really hope he develops further and reaches his full potential, but I can't lie, I am worried. Not sure he'll ever have any outstanding attributes.

I like the signing of Saint-Maximin a lot better, and for half the fee at that.

Albeit Iwobi is an excellent character with absolutely no concerns on that side of things. But still ...

Let us be honest, if Allan was born in Croydon or Woodford rather than the banlieues of Paris he would cost 30 million too, despite his shortcomings. Iwobi will do well, imo, and can be a big player for a club at that level, even if he doesn't develop too much more. He is clearly very skillful, a good passer, and is surprisingly strong/quick. He lacks something around the goal in terms of decision making (his return has never been enough in that area), but this is why the player is going to Everton. I find the popular idea that Iwobi is rubbish to be crazy.

Never said he was rubbish at all.

I do hope he is played week in week out there, as that is the only way he'll have chance to really kick on.

I'm nervous about him moving for that fee and the pressure it comes with. The fans up there will be much harsher because of it.

  5. Yeah, Lukaku was productive but he just didn't fit the clever link up play the likes of Rashford, Lingaard, Martial and Pogba would produce. His movement, touch, and passing would let him down too often.

I'd like to see Martial used centrally more often tbh, should Rashford not find consistency.

  7. Don't see what's so complicated.  We've lost Perez and Rondon and Joselu.  We replaced them with the unproven Joelinton, a perma-crock Carroll and proven-to-not-be-PL-standard Gayle.  To improve on last season's team, we should, at a bare minimum, be selling Gayle for 15m or so (subsidising his wages, if need be) and buying a quality replacement for the Gayle money plus some of extra funds knocking around.

What we've done is a cop out and it's not good enough.

I dunno, David Luiz has just gone for 8M, really can't see you getting 15M for Gayle. Also, you should probably have appended a qualifying adjective to Joselu too .

That's always the mooted figure and seems relatively achievable given the fees paid for strikers.  But even so, let's call it 8-12m.

We should still be looking to get someone in who is better than Gayle by spending some money.

    Joelinton - Rondon

    Perez - Maxim

    Almiron

    Joselu - Carrol

    Muto

    Gayle

Not a bad line up to be fair. Anyone proven from a foreign league is unproven in the PL and anyone prem proven is out of our price range so it's kind of a moot point. I dont see too many proven strikers in any league going for £40m.

Joelinton represents a huge gamble by any clubs standards so I can't be mad with the signing in much the same way I wasnt annoyed with the Almiron signing who was equally unproven.

If we were to get a CM I'd of actuslly have been happy with this window up until the point I remembered Steve Bruce was our manager.

    Yup.

  8. How and why is Muto being written off as shite exactly?

Because everyone's fucking miserable and no matter how much rationality you try to use, it doesn't fit their outlook on life/NUFC/the world?

It's sad man. Anyway we'll all find out once the season kicks off.

What I don't get is how the same people that lament bringing in the inexperienced Joelinton, are raving about Everton signing Moise Kean? Or Villa getting in Moraes?

They'll say we should have been in for Wilson who has only played at Championship level, while claiming Saint Maximin is no better than Atsu or akin to a dog chasing a balloon.

    Stuff is mental man.

Big difference, they are adding them to their teams not to replace their main striker.

But it's fine everyone KAKA is always right.

Calvert-Lewin was Everton's main striker to end the season. Having usurped the ineffective Cenk Tosun. Stop it.

  10. I'm honestly surprised at the reaction, we are short a striker, and as a short term fix I think he'll be alright. While it is pandering to an extent, I'm just looking at it as a better replacement for Joselu.

It's almost as if he's the only striker we've signed.

In actuality he is 1 of 6 options we can now use upfront in a 2 striker setup.

  11. If he stays fit, this would be a really solid move. Makes a lot of sense.

Hopefully coming back to Newcastle should give him an added boost and motivation to really commit to going the extra mile to take care of his body, due to the issues he's had.

This comment really doesn't surprise me.

It shouldn't because it makes sense.
