We didn't really have a bunch of competition for Merino either. Crazy the talent that is wasting away out there, just from being in the wrong situation at the wrong time.

Yeah, that's my point ... not exactly a ton of competition, as it was just Bilbao we went up against, and they didn't seem to be much of a challenge tbh.

Really pleased for him and would love for him to make that LB spot his in the meantime. He was very patient last season, and has been a great pro.

That is an easy fix. He will score goals for us no doubt. Just a bit too eager at the minute.

After this fantastic play we really do need to take advantage and get a second this half. That would pretty much take the heart out of them.

Man ... I can see why Rafa wanted Loftus-Cheek. Really dynamic in that number 10 position. Would have used him the same way he used Gerrard at Liverpool playing off that front man.

 

Shame the club couldn't make that move happen. Hope we can revisit that next summer.

 

Probably be double the price by that point.

 

Maybe not. The way Palace are going they're not likely to get the most out of him, and so his reputation might actually drop.

 

We may be able to get him on loan initially too, and so that would be very doable.

Benteke has proved to be very useful at times as a striker, but in general his instincts, outside of the ball being in the air, are absolutely shocking.

That ball rolled right across the face of goal a number of times now, and he is nowhere near it. He is very very poor at being in those positions.

Of course I fully expect him to score from exactly that situation anytime now ...

Eddie Howe has spent a fair amount of money as well and hasn't seemed to use a lot of the players he got in well enough.

If Joselu has already packed his bag and handed in a transfer request I will not hold it against him.
