We had a poor defence, a lack of goals in the team, and had just finished 11th.
Listen, Ba came very, very good; Marveaux and Obertan have yet to significantly contribute and Cabaye and Santon are still finding their feet. It evens out.
I don't think Simpson's basics are as good as Williamson's, like.
Full-back is pretty much the only position on the pitch you can sometimes escape a game without being really tested and Simpson benefits from that as much as any defender I can remember. He shirks his responsibilities constantly and consequently the other defenders have not an ounce of confidence in him and are frequently dragged out of position.
Obviously he should start most of our games, but there are too many on here who talk like he's a world beater. He's not our best player on his best day.

Him and Romário were absolutely class in the Italy game.
Was that 3-3 game that sealed the tournament for us?
Baffles me why people try to overcomplicate their appraisals of underperforming players. He's both physically and technically deficient, and has nothing in his locker needed to play the Colo role.
His game of charades with Williamson after their second was the highlight of the second half. Pair of wankers who are barely worth the peanuts we paid for them.
