  1. tbh, i didnt think portsmouth as a place was bad. I liked the area down by the water. Though the water means it gets foggy too. Remember one of the times it started to creep onto the pitch. Paul Merson was even saying it was a dump yesterday, and one of the reasons pompy are in the prem
  2. Honestly, it's a f****** shithole. I totally agree with you about old school grounds, but Fratton has to be seen to be believed. The lack of roof means theres no chance of generating any kind of atmosphere from the away end. The first time I went was in our promotion season, it was absolutely s**** then, but now dear me. I went their last season and literally all they've done is put seats on the terrace, and that's it. I'm not one of these that likes being pampered, going to places like Grimsby in the past and the Baseball Ground, Roker, and even Blackburn pre 1993, absolutely piss on anything in the Premiership now, but Fratton Park oh dear. ONE BOG for 3,000 away fans, there is absolutely no chance of creating an atmosphere, as for their atmosphere being great, twice I've been it was pure s****. Some daft c*** ringing a bell and 1500 giddies monotously singing der der der der der der der der Porstmuff, and that's on a good day. Where do these football myths come from?? They're a s*** club they're 5-1 down to Arsenal, it's their first time in the limelight for decades, so a few of them sing a couple of songs and clueless arseholes (clearly of the SKY generation ilk - no offence Brummie, you're in the majority not the minority), now say they're the best fans in the country. Between 1994 and 1999 they didn't average over 9,000. s*** club, s*** city, s*** ground, s*** fuckin fans, nothing club f*** off to the Championship. Don't think about having a night out there, hand on heart it rivals anywhere I've ever been for charvers, anywhere. It's like one big Ashington, but the people are even uglier. Christ, really? I can imagine the one bog is worth avoiding aswell. I think it's 2 cubicals and 4 urinals for all the men
  3. Been there twice. Crap atmosphere from us both times. I think because it's so far away, alot of the toon fans were from the south, and thus didnt know the songs etc. Bit of a hole. "Shall we build a stand for you" And the bell is very annoying. I iinitially thought it was a spanner being hit against metal. They've never made a good atmosphere when ive been there. Noise, like that bell, but no songs.
  4. As our last 5 games show, he hasn't got out striking department sorted. Take Drogba and Shevchenko away from Chelsea and I don't think they would be scoring that many either. We have spent nearly the whole season without Owen and Amoebi and I'm just amazed it's taken us this long to hit a dry patch. With Owen and Shola back we will have a very solid set of strikers for next season. I held this opinion 'til recently, but the charlton and city performances were such disgraces. There was no desire and they were idealess. Surely this is down to a tactically inept manager.
  5. the annoying thing is, europe is within reach. But you know we'll just collapse again.
  6. Agree with most of that. Though i thought duff was one of our better players, and while far from good, martins tried hard and i didnt think he stood out as bad (considering which team he was playing in)
  7. This was a very bad interview. If you're doing crap and want the fans on your side, you do not blame them, even if it's true. You do not defend the performance either. You tell it how it is and say "that was rubbish, and things need to improve". Bobby, nor souness, nor roeder have had the bottle to do that. Really pisses me off when managers defend clearly abysmal performances.
  8. proper supporters support the team of the place where they come from. Not true, some proper supporters support teams because of family members, my kids were always going to support Newcastle, regardless of where they were born. My nephew was born in the midlands but didnt have a choice in the matter, he was born black & white, we made sure of that. There's an argument that "come from" is a generational thing - but if i moved to Birmingham (as if), had kids, and THEY stayed there, had kids etc, i wouldn't expect my grandkids to be NUFC fans. If you are a brummie (which my grandkids would be) you should support a Birmingham team, in my opinion. You shouldn't necessarily be forced into supporting a team other than that of where you 'come from'. I know what you mean, but...I've been born and raised in Newcastle, but i support scotland as my national team. My dad's been taking me to scotland games since i was 5, so ive no choice in the matter. I'm a scotland fan, like it or not. Naturally, i would bring my son up as a scotland fan, despite him only being 1/4 scottish
  9. Do it to fat fred's favorite restaurant, that will be enough.. Something tells me he's not fussy.
  10. I know people say we've got crap players, and we do have some, but seriously with a great manager, we could do things even with our current squad. We have better players that loads of teams above us, but we lack ideas.
  11. Dickhead. People like you are tumor in football.
  12. With Roeder as manager ? Highly possible. Whats your solution then genius? Sack him now? And then what? I'm not saying it is the solution, but it could be, at least short term. A new manager would probably bring a boost that would at least keep us up. some very very very short memories around here Yours? You can't even remember what was written at the beginning of the said post. :rolls: eh? I wasnt saying it was the solution, i said it may be a short term solution to keep us up. Like Roeder last year had a short term impact.

  15. No-one said its impossible. But it won't happen, because thankfully there's at least 3 teams worse then us. I agree. We're crap, and if something doesnt happen next year, it could happen. But i dont think charlton or west ham will catch anyone, and if they do, not us. And hopefuly WHU will get a point deduction
  16. he also said the fan's being impatient got to the players, and the fans dont understand how hard it is to play v a defensive team. He also pointed to the parker goal which was "only just offside"
  17. I agree i would have brung up him on ideally, but then id have given milner and sib a go too, and moore was obviously injured.
  18. I think today was make or brake. We are well and truly broken.
  19. to be fair i just dont think emre looked interested v charlton. He's potential petrol but currently i dont think there's the spark to cause the petrol to burn and thus provide power.
  20. If anything, their expectations are too low because theyve been around when the club was tiny and shiite, and their opinions should be ignored because theyre not in touch with modern football and the runnings of a successful modern football club, which has clearly moved on from just appointing your local manager and giving him money to spend. These people think its good to appoint managers like Dalglish and Roeder whilst the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are appointing your Wenger's and Benitez's - football has moved on, they havent. Of course, im just playing devils advocate here, I dont think anyone's opinion is more valid than the next since opinions, intelligence, perspective, expectations will all be different, but its easy to argue that other groups' opinions are less valid just to make your own opinion/agenda seem stronger. "Dalgliesh and Roeder". Kenny was a highly successful manager previously, you cant blame us for wanting him.
  21. Personally I hate him because he's pathetic and immature. I don't hate Ferguson or Benetiez.

    Duff

Duff has been rubbish. No argument about that, but i don't think you can fault his effort. That's why i find it so bewildering.
  23. I said to give him the job in the summer. Who the hell else was there? And i wouldnt get rid of him, til we have someone lined up. I think CoachHTT may be right. I think i would keep roeder in the setup and bring in a manager if possible.
  24. If you take the 'George supporters' as the origin of the word Geordie, people from Gateshead are not Geordies. Newcastle (Geordies) were a minority in the area, sandwiched between opposition in the north and south (Northumberland and Durham) - Gateshead came under Durham. Ant and Dec's History of Tyneside
  25. I agree with a lot of what you're saying NJS, but not so much about having to have experienced the pre-keegan days. I was born in 1989, and i started following football as early as is realistically possible. I can't remember not going to newcastle games. I've been going to games since i was 5, and away games since i was 6 and i can't comprehend anybody feeling more joy or sorrow from Newcastle United than i do. If anything, you could say it is worse for my generation. My standards are naturally much higher. A few years older than me, and you've experienced much worse - relegation and the like. The first 2 seasons i remember properly we came 2nd in the premiership twice, and the next year we were in the champions league. Early memories that aren't so 'comprehensive' are of Beardsley and Cole banging them in, 'the entertainers'. You could say my disspointment threshold will be much higher. I'm not in anyway saying that i have more right to whinge etc. than older fans, but i'm saying i don't think they have more right than me.
