I suspect a young Gascoigne in today's day and age wouldn't have become what he has become. There was a drinking culture in football that he became part of. The likes of Bryan Robson, the day's England captain, Paul McGrath and Graeme Souness were hardened drinkers. And then Gazza went and did Italia 90, and he became part of it. Every man in the country would have bought Gazza a pint then. He was probably idolised more than any player before or since, and with what had gone on in his childhood, ie watching a mate of his getting killed, it all became too much. Excuses? Possibly, But I think it's fair to say the adulation he received added to the mental health problems he clearly has always had , pushed him down the slippery slope. I, for one, hope he gets well, but I don't think he has the tools in his kit to fix himself, and that is probably the saddest part of the story.

Played against Peterboro last week. Was shit. Which has been the norm apparently.

Ever since Ramage rocked up. They've fucked him off now but the rot has set in.

80 questions. "Quiz" Doing it anyway. edit: 45 64 for me. Many lucky guesses and some sad correct answers also.

A win moulded by the ref tbh.

He can defend, it is his concentration because he finds it so easy that is his problem. Aye has plenty of ability. Concentration is arguably the most important attribute for a defender though tbf I agree, he is only a pup though.

Danny Drinkwater making a habit of getting nonsense man of the match awards.

Think Hoddle likes Lallana.

Fuckoff Milner, fucking disgraceful.
-
Amazed he didn't say that Rooney could have knocked it in. He was half jokingly suggesting Rooney could play centre half with John Stones in 2020 aged just 34.

Nice goal that, well done Kyle Wanker.

Milner is breaking down everything we create, he's been diabolical in an attacking sense.
-
I wouldn't take him. Because if we do , we'll have the clamour to select him. Let's go without the stale stench of a player who isn't the player he was and rarely performed at International tournaments when he was in his prime. Because the fact he is England captain will almost certainly guarantee him an undeserving starting spot.

hardly a ringing endorsement tbh. I don't think just under 1 goal in every 2 games is a bad return for a man who isn't even a striker anymore. This is the problem though. He is/was so good that people are expecting 30 goals a season from him. It's quite likely he ends up with 20 goals this season and people are turning their noses up at it. sorry, im talking league goals only here. Based on league goals he can't start ahead of kane or vardy, his return is pretty shit in comparison tbh. Based on just general contribution he shouldn't start ahead of Kane or Vardy, but we both know that he will. I just hope he can have a great tournament before getting knocked out by a Jon Walters brace in the quarters. That might happen if Jon overtwangs them from the stands.

Agree that Lallana is not great, but I'm not sure there's any point playing Rooney on the left. Smacks of accommodating him for no real reason. I thought Lallana had a good game against Germany especially early on.

Shearer never had any poor tournaments though.

Name 4 strikers better or 4 attacking midfielders better. No? Exactly. Rooney is a striker who has Kane, Vardy, Sturridge at the very least ahead of him. They won't take four attacking midfielders but he surely would be behind Alli and Barkley. On this season's form, he should be nowhere near the England squad, and nor should he on tournament history. You still can't name 4 strikers who should go ahead of him. It's worth mentioning that Rooney's generally been good for England since the WC and scored plenty of goals. He's been poor for Man U with the shackles on, granted. Rewriting history again Ron, as is your wont. I remember you giving it a couple of years before informing us that Rooney had had a good Euro 2012. He's been average despite knocking in a few goals, and we look far better without him. FWIW, I'd take Welbeck ahead of him too. 11 goals in 15 games since the World Cup. That's a fact, by the way, not a rewriting of history. And what I actually said was he was good in the 2 games he played in Euro '12, which he was. He really wasn't [emoji13]
