  1. Has anybody came out and confirmed that anything in the Chronicle is true? Sounds unlikely.

    Alan Pardew

Good aspects being it's the only premiership job he'd ever have got? One of them, probably.
  3. No but Danny Simpson seems to think he's not a problem and other younger players seem to be taking his side in this. The only ones going against Barton is the press who will be getting information from the club which is one sided. Leon Best said the stuff about a poor spirit in the camp was rubbish. What about the new players who have all been bright as sunshine in their interviews? What makes you think your version is the truth and the papers are lying? Everything is about perception isn't it. Barton is pissed off and raging because he isn't getting the deal he wants, and he doesn't have the intelligence to react any other way. People like Leon Best and no doubt the new players are happy as Larry right now. Joey's giving his point of view, which he's entitled to, but it would be a bit much to believe it represents the gospel truth about what's happening at the club.
  4. Do you think you know him? Us patsies/sympathisers/apologists ("patsympogists") aren't allowed to know eachother's identity. It's like the Bourne films.

It's fair comment that Pardew should resign in protest at the things he has to accept. Personally I think it's fine that he's decided he wants the job despite that. Sometimes the good aspects of a job outweigh the bad.
  6. No, it's all true, Tron has had it confirmed. and you can confirm Joey's version right? Clearly holding a grudge. A lot of your posts can easily be argued with the tiniest sense of reasoning ability, you dont even bother. Again...why would I have a grudge? Humour me, I really don't understand why I would be biased, it's not like he's slagging me personally or I'm on Ashley's payroll. Or are you?

Honest question - are injuries that bad under Pardew? And if they are, isn't it just bad luck? Also not sure you can blame the discipline issues with Enrique and Barton on Pardew either, they are caused by contract issues which have very little to do with him.
  8. The phrase "be careful what you wish for" comes to mind.
  9. Yeah, I was maybe thinking of him as a Campbell/Kuqi type signing on a one year deal or something. Probably unlikely I admit, his goalscoring record is spectacular though.
  10. Used to absolutely love Trezeguet, no idea how good he is now though. Importantly too, he's French. He's 33, and he got 12 in 31 for Hercules last season... not too bad.

Nah, I've come to terms with the fact I'm not going to change anyone's opinion. I am coming close to leaving the forum though, but I don't know where I'd get my football chat from. Why? It's easy to run along with the herd and be popular - just ask Johnny Hall he's got it down to an art. These are just opinions at the end of the day and the type of nob who thinks you're Ashley's puppet because you question their take on it aren't worth the time of day. Anyway, you don't have it so bad. Look at that somalian kid Kaka. Every time he types a sentence Dave pops up to question his personal experience of the hallowed turf of St James. I don't know if he's Somalian btw, just going of north shields lad's conjecture. He could be Croatian for all I know. Stick up for me and character-assassinate others at the same time, I like it! I probably wouldn't leave, maybe I just need to come on less. And stop getting involved in the same arguments over and over again of course.

You've obviously backed yourself into a corner with your earlier views, so will continue to be contrary for the sake of it. Ah shaddap.
  15. Why is the decent start forgotten about because things have gone a bit quiet though? That's what I don't understand.
  16. It's not as simple as that, Enrique seems to have more ambition then the club. He has become good enough for a top club, and his contract is running out. That's the most important factor IMO.

  18. I don't think he's actually responsible for Joey Barton not knowing what acceptable behaviour is though.
  19. Ben Arfa, cabaye, Ba, Marveaux? DUH! Most of them unproven in the PL! Ba has onyl played 12 games, ffs. And if they joined on the promise of the club pushing on and showing ambition, what do you think will happen next year when hopefully we've managed to stay clear of relegation (which is looking likely)? They will be off quicker than s*** off a shovel. Side point but every player in the entire league was 'unproven in the PL' as some point. Think people place too much on this. There's always an excuse. Their always injured and so they aren't good signings! They're unporven in the league! They're Frencch bottlers! They don't have enough passion! Boring. Tend to agree with this, the lack of any optimism about our new signings is pretty depressing. Cabaye and Ben Arfa in particular I'm very happy about, and Ba is (shock horror) proven to be able to get goals at this level. Most people bringing up them being unproven in the league are just pointing out that we are currently taking risks replacing these proven premier league players with those that are not. Yes they may also have the potential to be better ofcourse, hopefully they will all step up. But you cant currently use them as justification for any idea that we'll clearly be completely fine as we have all these class players, no one can say that yet & some try to lean towards it. Yeah, any signing carries a risk, but I think the scales have been tipped far too far towards expectation of failure. They're all exciting players IMO, and our youngsters have had a good preseason too.
  20. I don't think you are being dramatic enough.

You're arguing a point which is 2 years out of date. We were relegated and had to cut costs and that's behind us now. Yes, we still have the debt but that debt is supposed to be an interest free loan from the owner who we are told has no intention of taking any money out of the club, which is a lie anyway as he already has taken money out. We're now in a situation where we have cut our costs and have started on a recovery and we need to invest to sustain the recovery, not cut costs. This is the most reasonable argument on that side. The question is where should the balance be. The problem, and where football is different to other businesses, is that it's very difficult to equate investment with return. In manufacturing, I know if I invest enough to make 100 more things, I get a certain profit on those things. Football has no such guarantees. Do you agree that it looks like Ashley does not really care where we finish, as long as its not the bottom 3? That it looks likely the club is not being ran with progression on the field on mind, instead to keep things ticking over with PL status and reducing the wage bill until a buyer comes in? I think he would like to achieve whatever success he can within the limits he has now decided on. So yes, he only wants success if he can do it quite cheaply. Whether it has anything to do with selling I'm not sure, I just think he has decided he wants to limit the amount he has to subsidise us by. I think it's unlikely he will find a buyer in the near future - if he does 20 or 30 million here or there won't make any difference to them anyway. So yes, sadly finance does come before footballing progress with him, I can't deny that. And we're not going to get success on the cheap (sensible investment perhaps!), so the club is just standing still as long as he's there. He's an irrisposible owner, just as one is if they let the club go bust too. Well, when I say "cheap" I mean acquiring the kind of players we already have. Often for below their market value. I think progress is possible under Ashley, though less likely than if he would spend more. Say we have an usually good season and finish in the top 8, it would only take another couple of decent players to establish us at that level. Yes we are relying on some luck, but there's a lot of that in football if you can't build a Man City-style team.
  23. So it hasn't been coinfirmed, thanks. No it hasn't been "coin"firmed if you are talking legal jargon. I'm not sure what coinfirmed even means unless you are writing with a New Jersey accent. Wouldn't that be confoimed?
