  1. It depends on what happens over the next couple of windows doesn't it? You could hardly call Ashley short-termist if he took the £35m that Liverpool were prepared to panic-buy Carroll for and invested it sensibly in 5 or 6 solid new signings. Not that I'm saying he will, but y'kna.
  2. It's a well-known fact that making young footballers mega-rich helps them to settle down and be sensible man!

    Alan Pardew

If he was going to battle Ashley over every transfer or decision, he would never have been appointed anyway.

    Alan Pardew

He obviously just wants the job more than he wants to stand up to the owner. He knew what he was getting into, I've got no problem with how he's behaved so far.
  5. Sadly you're right... the premiership now is all about athleticism. The fact that we've persevered with so many immobile and unfit players for so long is unbelievable. Obviously we can't address that now though, so we need to get the best out of the players we have.
  6. If Williamson had given away 4 or 5 penalties I could understand us complaining about him holding too much, but he hasn't. To me it's more a case of using a bit of smarts to do what he knows he can get away with.
  7. I sort of agreed with you UV, but I just think that the reduced attendances is likely to have hit the floor, rather than be a continuous trend. I think it's more likely that us having a hard time has just trimmed the casual fans and left the more serious ones. Don't forget we've just been relegated as well. It's probably impossible to tell right now, but I think a little bit of excitement from Ben Arfa and a finish a bit above the relegation zone will mean that there's no way people will stop going to games in large enough numbers to make Ashley notice.
  8. True, even older strikers only usually look decent after a spell of games, especially in teams like ours who play long ball and create very few chances.
  9. I get a bit tired of being the token Geordie now I live in the south of England, but home is still massively important to me.
  10. I was surprised that "we don't care about Carroll" wasn't given an airing against Fulham, maybe it was too soon.
  11. It's an interesting question, I consider myself all those things TBH. Identity is never simple, there's a great book called 'Identity and Violence' that talks about that issue and how seeing people as one thing or the other causes so many problems in the world.
  12. TBH I don't know how good or bad Pardew will be, all I know is that he hasn't done anything to be slagged off for yet - and it's too soon to judge him. And I know Souness was bad, real bad.
  13. I watch Newcastle because it's a deep part of my identity and I can't give it up (as I've found this week). I watch England because I like the sport of football and it's normally on TV.
  14. Radically different aye, in that Souness was much worse.
  15. Hit the nail on the head. Thirded, the mystery is why we didn't at least try to pass it on the ground after it became clear the aimless punts weren't working. Maybe we just didn't have the players.
  16. Both. For pubs it is much cheaper. I've been told around £80 a month it is for the systems. While sky charge at least £3000 a year and in some pubs ask for a taking of the profits made during live games. They also show the 3pm kick off's as well. OK, I need to look into getting hooked up with this shizz.
  17. Are these foreign systems cheaper for ordinary consumers, or just for pubs because they get charged so much by Sky? Or is the issue more about showing games that aren't on in the UK?
  18. It's a different board for one thing.
  19. He did well to use his body and get a shot in TBH, it was just a good save.
  20. Best's hattrick was bad timing, and Shola was looking alright as well.
  21. do you not feel ;like doing it when any players does it, including our own ? Well yeah, just more so in his case!
  22. We would need to get the home crowds down to 30k at least, not sure that's possible. Even then Ashley might not be able to find a buyer. Even then the buyer might be worse.
  23. I nearly threw up when Damien Duff was pointing to the Fulham badge in super slow-motion on MOTD. Could strangle the fucker.
  24. There's something not quite right about saying "Ashley is only here short term and will be out as soon as he can get his money back" and also saying "we need to do something to get Ashley out". Unless you believe that he should sell for a massive loss just to get away, which it seems he obviously won't.
  25. Bollocks. He'd have cum on the spot at the thought of that sort of cash. If we want to talk about people taking money out of the club, let's talk about Freddy Shepherd.
