Fingers crossed you're right mate. Fo' shizzle.

That would be the version I most hope is true - it would show that Hughton is becoming a decent manager and that Ashley is backing him. Both of which we want.

Bugger.

Victor Moses, str8 like a banana.

You're right, the current signings are decent but that would be another level of purchase.

Portsmouth FC in yet more trouble - administration again?

Nice to see their webite is sponsored by Jobsite and carries advertising for a wheelie bin company. Both things they will need over the next few weeks. -
UV, I realise that nobody really knows, but it's a bit harsh to choose to believe that the whole squad was up for sale and it was just luck to hold onto them. Surely Taylor and Enrique would have been snapped up, and Colo and/or Jonas would have gone to Spain or somewhere like that. Especially if we were accepting any half-decent bids as some people seem to think. And a minor injury wouldn't stop anyone buying S Taylor in January either, if he was being peddled around.

He's only saying what the tabloids will be saying very shortly!

Don't get the feeling we are even thinking about outgoings. Would be mental to keep te core of the team together last summer and let a couple of key players go in January.

Oh aye, blame the grammar.

I know, if it was anyone other than Ashley I would have to say he's learning from his mistakes.

I'm struggling to count the times any previous regime put that level of personal investment into the club (whether on transfers or otherwise, it makes no odds). You're probably right, that wasn't really my point anyway. NUFC didn't invest in players, that was a gamble (however understandable) that didn't pay off. All I was saying was that this was in contrast to the previous regime who gambled that the club should spend a lot on players even if they couldn't afford it.

Don't think it will happen till the weekend, probably not till Monday. Administraitors trying to screw as much money out for him. That doesn't make much financial sense tbh. They could wait till Monday as it is a definate deadline. Flush out as much money as they can, knowing that at least three Championship clubs are interested. Sell him for £1.5mil today or wait till Monday and get £3mil. £1.5 more in three days. Not a bad hourly rate. Do you know how much administration costs? As soon as a price that is what they value him at is met they will accept it. They have turned down bids already, so that doesn't back up your argument. It does actually.

Sorry, I meant investing in the playing staff. Obviously in the current situation he limited his input to the reported £20m - meaning that by definition there would be nothing for new players. Certainly not on the scale of those purchased by the previous regime.

No, I said a couple of pages back that the fact they're in administration means they will probably accept all of the decent bids, not hold out too long for more money. They need to secure the future of the club by bringing in some short-term cash - getting the maximum market value for assets isn't necessarily the main thing.

If we sign Moses and an attacking midfielder I'll literally explode.

Insightful stuff from Ryder there

In some ways Shepherd was just as much of a gambler as Ashley, he just gambled the other way. Ashley has screwed things up badly but if he'd done due diligence and not bought NUFC there's a good chance we'd have done a Portsmouth. After Ashley had bought the club and revealed the debt Shepherd claimed had he stayed in charge he would have refinanced the club. He talked about it as if it would have been easy. As we now know with the Credit Crunch it would have been very hard to refinance. On the one hand Ashley buying us has been bad but on the other hand it might just have saved us. Aye, it's hard to say. Obviously Shepherd's 'death or glory' approach was bound to be more popular because it involves big signings, managerial appointments and a lot of excitement. And if it had led to consistent success, or even a minor trophy, we couldn't have complained. Ashley's approach was to try and stay up without investment, which if it had worked might have been alright. Obviously it didn't and we got relegated. I just hope he's learning from his mistakes... the proof of the pudding will be at the end of the season I suppose... whether we go up or not.

This is probably the biggest improvements over past regimes. Lots of things have been a disaster obviously, but the way we make signings is much better.

Patrick Van Aanholt from Chelsea signs on one-month loan

Good news if true and he turns out to be decent. We have a slight problem with Enrique being so good and also quite young, it will be difficult to find the right sort of backup. -
I can't bring myself to believe this one is going to come off.
