  1. Honestly? Is this due to Givens incredible record of saving long distance shots? The build up to the goal came about through Harper's poor distribution though.
  2. I can appreciate the logic of not appointing Shearer as permanent manager if one of the potential buyers is not keen. However, as it would take a few weeks to conclude any deal, at what point would the new owners go out and recruit a manager? If they are foreign owners, they would probably have to hire an advisor of potential targets. Do you think they would have a manager on standby or wait until the deal is done before starting to think about it. We have seen with recent appointments that it normally takes over a week to do the negotiations. At this rate, it would be towards the end of July at the earliest. I just don't know why they don't appoint Shearer on a 6 month deal to oversee the next few months. If he does a good job, then they will want to keep him on and if not, then it won't cost them much to get rid.
  3. From what I hear, he really wants to stay especially if Shearer is manager.

If they went about selling the club in a more professional manner, they would not get the time wasters seeking publicity. It should all have been discreetly like with other clubs.

I think the fact that they have football people involved and people with experience of NUFC gives a bit more hope because they should surely have an understanding of what they would be buying into - unlike someone like Ashley with no experience of football at all.

Isn't that the company that Steve McMahon is involved in? He has been seen at SJP when they were supposedly involved in some business with the club.

The news comes a day after Toon owner Mike Ashley put the club up for sale for £100m and invited people to e-mail in with bids. The organisation, which is based in Singapore, has already said it intends to keep Alan Shearer on as manager if the move is successful. It has links with existing football businesses, including a current Premier League club, as well as banking, property and legal services. A high-profile football figure has been recruited to spearhead the takeover attempt for the group, which was established in the 1980s.
  9. Not picking your post apart because I agree with it, but just saying I HATE Paul Jewell. Time wasting's one of my biggest gripes in football and his teams treat it like an art form. Plus he's s****. I am not keen on any of the names I listed either and Jewell did not impress at Derby. I just cannot think of any genuine alternatives to Shearer. The obvious ones - Bruce, Martinez, Coyle and possibly Mowbray are no longer available. Foreign managers are an unlikely option now as well. When people say "definitely not Shearer", I am just wondering who their preferred choice is because I honestly cannot think of who they might be.
  10. So who are the alternative choices as manager because I cannot think of any other realistic options. Coppell is highly unlikely, Strachan?, Curbishley?, Jewell - after that I am struggling to think of names. Who is this experienced championship manager to lead us to promotion? Kinnear excels at relegation from the Championship so it can't be him.

Luke Edwards normally does talk sense and has been one of the more outspoken journalists in the last few months.
  12. I wonder how much we are going to pay this agency to flog players?

What happens if Ashley cannot sell the club? At what point, will he decide that he should get a manager and start some preparations for next season?
  14. i somehow get the feeling it's from a re-hashed article from last january, with shearer's name in place of keegan's Imagine it was tongue in cheek but doesn't translate well in print.

West Ham have been up for sale for a while because of the financial problems of the Icelandic owners. Portsmouth were up for sale because of their owner could no longer afford to run the club. Everton have been up for sale for ages. Blackburn are up for sale. All of those clubs (and others no doubt) have continued to run themselves in a professional manner and let takeover issues stay in the background. Ashley has basically closed us down and is trying to sell off our assets (players) until we get sold. The longer this goes on, the more damaging it is to the club and surely that means, it will be worth a lot less than £100m.
  16. Little harsh on Shearer. He's got no input. Ashley has blatantly cut him loose! If Bassong moves for £5m to Sunderland or a deal equally as s**** when Shearer is on holiday, Shearer himself whether he becomes boss will kick himself as being potentially the only person to stick up for the club and he's gone away. You seem to think that Shearer has the run of St James's park. Who says he can get past security? Shearer is meant to be back from Portugal today so I don't think a long weekend away is going to do much harm.
  17. If Shearer does not get the job, it would be just typical that he becomes a manager at another club, becomes hugely successful and in demand. We come crawling back and he tells us where to go.
  18. I know, I'm not agreeing with the idea, just saying that if the reality is that players will be sold regardless then it might even be better to get the situation with the squad a bit clearer before the new manager signs on. The trouble is what brief would they be working towards. Presumably to maximise revenue at all costs. Selling players needs to be done on the basis of building a team for the next season. If an independent source sells all our best players and we are left with the dross that they cannot sell, it will be even more difficult to attract a manager when he looks at the players he has to work with and with probably all the best potential signings having already been snapped up. I think they should appoint Shearer - even on a short-term contract he if agrees - to oversee this period. At least he has the club's best interests at heart and will be looking at it from a "manager's" point of view - and then if a new buyer comes in and does not want him, it would not be too expensive to replace him. The downside to that is players would be reluctant to sign not knowing who the manager is going to be long-term.

I didn't know the club was for sale so it is very kind of them to let me know. I had been wondering what Keith Harris and the newspapers have been discussing for the last couple of weeks. Idiots.
  20. Shearer or AN Other, they need to get it sorted ASAP. Have any plans been made for pre-season, friendlies lined up? Will there be any coaches there when the players return? Guess only Hughton and Money are under contract now. I wonder where all the experienced managers are who will work with a limited at best transfer budget?
  21. A lot of the Sundays seems to be running the Shearer story. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/83813/Messiah-Shearer-snubbed/ This one says: "But Ashley is desperate to sell and wants any promotion campaign to be financed as cheaply as possible. It’s understood he is not prepared to give the Shearer plan, which involves cash for transfers, the green light. " Sounds like Ashley. :frantic:
  22. That article seems complete bollocks to me. Nothing more than s***-stirring. The supporters are already voting with their pockets; season-ticket sales are almost non-existent, adding to the financial mess which will make Newcastle an even less attractive proposition Seeing as tickets have not gone on sale yet (other than the 3 year deal), I am not surprised.
  23. Well that would be a lively game when we play you next season.

Did he? Didn't know he got all that as well. I'm sure I read somewhere he bought the lot from Hall/Shepherd. Might not have been entirely true mind. I'm sure someone will confirm or deny. It's the only thinking behind the £100m pricetag and a £140m potential loss. I was talking about this to my brother last night as I too thought there was a lot of land and property that belonged to NUFC and that maybe this is not part of the sale and therefore writing off £100m in loans might not be as a philanthropic act as first seemed.
  25. did he really say that??? :dave: He's had it in for the club since the fans booed him after the England game that time. Owen was annoyed with the fans that day as well. But Newcastle fans applauded him off the pitch when he destroyed us in the 5-1 defeat in December.
