Winning flick ons and holding the ball up is all well and good but we need an out and out goal scorer. If Luuk de Jong doesn't turn out to be that then NUFC can't afford to spend their limited striker budget on him. It's no good having someone supplying the bullets if there is no one who can reliably fire them.
-
It will be until he hits a few hard shots on target. So far the two or three shots he has had have been piss weak.
-
To be fair to Cisse he had two shots on target yesterday, both of which required decent saves from the Fulham keeper. Shola did nothing positive yesterday.
-
I agree it is possible de Jong might rediscover his Netherlands league scoring form if he had more time but he doesn't have more time. The fact that he hasn't looked like scoring so far, his performances during his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach and the £8m fee he will cost mean at the moment I can't see NUFC being willing to gamble on buying him in the hope he recaptures his form from over 2 seasons ago.
-
The decision on whether NUFC buy Luuk de Jong or not will presumably be based on his performances during this loan period and not on how he did in the Netherlands over 2 seasons ago. People have said it's harsh to judge him this early in this team but NUFC have to. If Luuk de Jong doesn't start scoring goals I highly doubt NUFC will buy him. People may think it's tough for him to prove himself in this team but Remy has. Luuk de Jong had a season and a half to prove himself in at Borussia Mönchengladbach and he failed. I expected to see more of an impact from him than I've seen so far. He's playing for a contract. First and foremost a striker is judged on goals. He hasn't looked like scoring yet.
-
Remy manages to score with the same quality of service. de Jong hasn't looked like scoring yet.

Shola should never play for us again. He is not getting a new contract so do not play him. Armstrong should be ahead of Shola in the pecking order now. Why give a player who won't be here next season game time? He hasn't scored a league goal since December 2012. And don't give him a "goodbye" appearance in our last game of the season. They did that with Alan Smith and it cost us dear.
-
He had chances to shoot but kept trying to pass to others. Strikers are selfish and like to score themselves. Strikers with no confidence pass to other players. He's had a couple of shots during his loan so far and they've both been piss weak daisy cutters.
-
I 100% believe that Shola Ameobi will not get a new contract at NUFC.
-
Signing Luuk de Jong because he may turn out to be a good foil for another striker to play off isn't a good enough reason for me. We are unlikely to buy a goal scorer if we spend £8m on Luuk de Jong. Nolan plays off Carroll but Nolan also scores goals. Bellamy scored goals and his pace created chances for the rest of the team. Luuk de Jong hasn't scored goals since he was in the Netherlands. Can we still get Gomis?
-
I like my strikers to score goals. If Luuk de Jong doesn't score at least a couple of goals during the rest of his loan I wouldn't want NUFC to spend £8m of our no doubt very limited transfer budget on him. Our side lacks goal threat when Remy doesn't play. If Remy isn't here next season we need to buy players who can score goals. We already have strikers who don't score goals. I don't want to replace Shola with someone else who can't score. Long and Jelavic are nothing special but they can score goals. Surely NUFC can find strikers who can score goals?
-
So are they happy or angry NUFC lost on SMB? It must be causing them a lot of conflict with their emotions.
-
And people worry he'll be offered a new contract? He came on and was absolutely rank. Mike Ashley would never agree to wasting more money on Shola.
-
Good? A striker who can't shoot for s***? We can't afford to spend £8m of our very limited transfer budget on a striker who can't shoot. You can't buy a goal scorer for £8m. Well Arsenal can, but there's only so many Remy's knocking about. I'm not talking about a 20 goals a season striker. Having said that, I've just looked at this and it's amazing how few goals are scored by strikers outside the top 6: - Premier League Top Scorers Rank Player Name Team Goals 1 Luis Suarez Liverpool 24 2 Daniel Sturridge Liverpool 18 3 Sergio Agüero Manchester City 15 4 Eden Hazard Chelsea 13 4 Loïc Remy Newcastle United 13 4 Yaya Touré Manchester City 13 5 Olivier Giroud Arsenal 12 5 Jay Rodriguez Southampton 12 6 Wayne Rooney Manchester United 11 6 Robin van Persie Manchester United 11 7 Romelu Lukaku Everton 10 8 Christian Benteke Aston Villa 9 8 Wilfried Bony Swansea City 9 8 Rickie Lambert Southampton 9 8 Álvaro Negredo Manchester City 9 8 Danny Welbeck Manchester United 9 9 Emmanuel Adebayor Tottenham Hotspur 8 9 Edin Dzeko Manchester City 8 9 Steven Gerrard Liverpool 8 9 Aaron Ramsey Arsenal 8 10 Samuel Eto'o Chelsea 7 10 Adam Johnson Sunderland 7 10 Adam Lallana Southampton 7 10 Kevin Nolan West Ham United 7 11 Roberto Soldado Tottenham Hotspur 6

Good? A striker who can't shoot for shit? We can't afford to spend £8m of our very limited transfer budget on a striker who can't shoot.

On what I've seen of him so far - Do not buy! His shots are piss weak (on the rare occasion that he actually shoots).

Remy's absence will probably give Cisse his last chance to save his NUFC career. One thing that may help him is that when de Jong has played he has been playing through balls to Remy. I think that's the sort of service Cisse likes. -
It is highly unlikely but, if NUFC were the only team to win all our games during Pardew's ban who would get the "manager of month" award?
-
The FA are going to appeal against their own decision?
-
Pardew will be able to watch the matches in real time using the live feed from the TV cameras. BBC and SKY pundits sit and watch all the matches live so I'm sure NUFC will be able to organise that. What's to stop Pardew doing the half time team talk by phone, SKYPE or some other video conferencing means? How would the FA know? It's not like the FA can sit in the dressing room. Pardew will just have to ask his friend José Mourinho how he did it when he had a stadium ban.
