  1. People like Real Madrid fans. I've nothing against Capello but I can picture the media and some fans getting on his back if England 'only' win 1-0 and moaning that the team is too defensive.
  2. Aren't England fans a bit like the stereotype Newcastle fan in that we all like attacking football above all else? The football played by Jose Mourinho, Fabio Capello and Marcello Lippi's teams isn't gung-ho enough for some. Real Madrid are said to have sacked Fabio Capello because the fans didn't like the way his team played (even though they won the title). It will be interesting to see what happens if one of the Italians gets the job.
  3. What a load of shit Lawrenson spoke (as usual). Apparently NUFC are really good at set pieces, just like Bolton were. Are we? I thought we were pretty crap at set pieces.
  4. It was a penalty. It doesn't matter if Martins had the ball or not, you aren't allowed to bring players down who don't have the ball. That's a foul and if it happens in the penalty area, that's a penalty.
  5. "chairman Ashley" Well for one thing, Chris Mort is chairman and Mike Ashley is the owner but I wouldn't expect a newspaper to get a little fact like the correct. Would £200 Million cover the purchase price of the club plus the £45 million Ashley has paid out of his own pocket to reduce (clear?) the clubs debts? Probably just another newspaper shit stirring story.
  6. Having said all that, winning a game that pisses off the media always makes the win all the sweeter.
  7. BBC: - "A win would have been deserved for Birmingham, a draw would be have been fair but a defeat would have been unjust." Christ! Who wrote that match summary? Alex McLeish? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/7122781.stm
  8. Good old BBC: - "The result was unfair on Alex McLeish's side" Well fuck you Beeb, we won!
  9. Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has been given until Christmas to turn the struggling club around. (Mirror) Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper wants to quit the club to raise his profile, believing it will help him force his way into the England team. (Daily Mail) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/7124390.stm
  10. Sam Allardyce will be sacked as Newcastle manager and replaced by Alan Shearer if the Magpies lose to Arsenal on Wednesday. (Sunday Times) Peter Crouch could move to Newcastle in an £8m deal next month. (Daily Star Sunday) West Ham are hoping to lure former Totenham fullback Stephen Carr away from Newcastle. (News of the World). Newcastle are eyeing Espanyol striker Luis Garcia if Obafemi Martins carries out his threat to quit Tyneside. (News of the World). http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/7123449.stm
  11. Everytime Owen is away on international duty there is always a story in the press about him wanting to leave Newcastle. It's a shame we can't put stuff like this out into the media about journalists: - "I am told that The Express have not been that impressed with Harry Harris. Of course, expect a glut of denials, but informed sources suggest that The Express would jump at the chance to get rid of Harry Harris. Expect developments soon enough."
  12. I like their comments that a chairman/owner should wear a suit and sit in the directors box. They hold very traditionalist views. Being a billionaire means being able to do what the f*** you want.
  13. I see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Ashley_%28businessman%29 has been edited removing the stuff about Ashley going to the pub, etc. with the fans. He's now back to being a "secretive billionaire".
  14. Sorry if it has already been mentioned but Mike Ashley is going to watch the game sitting (standing?) with our fans behind the goal. See NUFC.co.uk
  15. The atmosphere is usually good against Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Sunderland. Against the rest it's usually relatively quiet.
  16. What is obscene is how MPs can vote for their own payrises, pensions, etc. Shouldn't they be running the country instead of talking about footballer's wages?
  17. On nufc.co.uk there are photos of the team training with the line "Ameobi set for return to bench after groin injury" under a photo of Shola training. It also says that "Kazenga LuaLua is training with United's first-team on a full-time basis now".
  18. I read the story in The Sun and it read like a load of made up bollocks. It said things like Sven wants Owen but he doesn't know if he could afford him because he would cost £15 Million and his £110,000 weekly wages would be a problem. It also said Owen hasn't settled in the North East and that the fans have never really taken to him. Just another shit stirring story from the southern press.
  19. Could be. Share buying is a gamble. I don't work in the stock markets but a lot of what city traders do seem to be based on rumours. Dress up in a smart suit, stand outside the stock exchange and as the traders are all arriving for work, shout into your phone "Bank Of America are buying Northern Rock?" - Watch the share price rise. My share tip? Arms companies. There's always a war going on somewhere. blatantly republican I don't think so, I'm from Newcastle not the US. Anyway, the whole point of shares is trying to make money. You don't have to like the companies or what they sell. It's a fact of life that there are always wars. Not meaning to make an example of CoachHTT but "I'm hoping we get a recession or a big crash, purely for selfish reasons like." comment is a "look after number 1" attitude. The fact that if NR went bust 6000 local people (including a lot of NUFC supporters) would lose their jobs doesn't come into his equation. We all usually want what's best for ourselves. That's capitalism for you.
  20. Could be. Share buying is a gamble. I don't work in the stock markets but a lot of what city traders do seem to be based on rumours. 21. How? Are you an ordinary shareholder? Shares can go down as well as up. You've only lost the money if you sold the shares today. Who knows what the shares will be worth in the future. A few rumours of a takeover and watch those shares climb. I imagine a lot of muggers have been hanging around Northern Rock branches today waiting to mug the people who have withdrawn their savings.
  22. Spot the Mackem Wikipedia editor: - "Michael James Wallace Ashley (born 1963) is an English billionaire retail entrepreneur, in the sporting goods market. He is also the owner of Newcastle United F.C after wasting £134 million to buy the club." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Ashley_%28businessman%29 No reference to his nights out in Newcastle either. He went out again after the Wigan game: - http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/chroniclelive/eveningchronicle/tm_headline=toon-owner-parties-with-barmaids%26method=full%26objectid=19732127%26siteid=50081-name_page.html
  23. Reduce the price for Cup games, especially if the game is also being broadcast live on TV. 50,000 fans at £10 each makes more money for the club compared to 30,000 fans at £15 each. More fans equals more food, drink and merchandise sales to say nothing for the improved atmosphere.
  24. Owen missed quite a few for Liverpool. What's Viduka's penalty record like? Martins seems good at them apart from that one he blasted over last season. I agree with you about Shola. The whole crowd crap themselves when he comes up to take a penalty but 99.9% of the time he scores. The last time I mentioned this someone said he's missed one before.
  25. Now that Solano has gone who will be our designated penalty taker?
