  1. I have a few questions on atmosphere: When did it go missing? What years do you think the noise was at its best at SJP? Why was the noise good then? The only way the so called lack of atmosphere will improve is if we see goals scored for our team, skillful players, attacking football, crunching tackles & the odd injustice always help raise the noise. Choir sections, standing area's is all bollocks really & is a ideology. The "prawn sarnie" crew how big is the pile at SJP? I am looking past the mackem connection & if you can see past the soundbite & give facts it would help me have a better understanding of your view point. do you not think the fans should be singing and supporting the team from the 1st whistle to the last without these things to encourage them? They probably should but I think it's unrealistic to expect that to happen. Every team has a few fans who will sing regardless of results/form/excitement but most other fans won't. If it was as simple as everybody just singing from start to finish then there would be a brilliant atmosphere at every football ground in the world but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. I think it's important to remember that top flight football is an entertainment industry and not all people go to the game to be fanatical. Sorry for going off topic btw. i see what you mean. its the main reason i prefer to goto away games than home games now. ibrox is only ever loud on champions league nights and old firm days You'll find that with about every club in the country. The people who go to the away games tend to be most committed and fanatical.

  3. I don't think the atmosphere at SPL ground is anything special. There's a decent atmosphere at Tannadice whenever we play Dundee (when they're in our league and their fans aren't boycotting our ground), Aberdeen, Rangers and Celtic. Apart from that it's usually quite flat. There was a rule a few years ago that all SPL clubs had to have a minimum of a 10,000 capacity all seated stadium. Most of the clubs in the SPL only have a hard-core fanbase of about half their stadium capacity so most games are played in half-empty grounds
  4. I think the "period of adapting" is an interesting one. I can see it from both sides. Often, people form opinions of how the OF would do in the Premiership based on their current squad. If they had guaranteed Premiership revenue and exposure then i'm pretty sure their squads would be considerably stronger than they currently are. But, on the other hand, would they get crowds of 60,000 if they weren't virtually guaranteed a victory every week? History would suggest not. Valid points. Also they would not be guaranteed or as good as Champion League football. I don think they should be allowed in the Premier league, if they were then should start at the farthest point of the pyramid system. Also think it is ironic some Celtic fans don't class Scotland as the own country, they vote SNP, yet want they want the team they support to be in the EPL, talk about confused!!!! That's what i've always said. Celtic have an identity crisis. They're a Scottish club who think they're an Irish club but want to be an English club.
  5. They're going well but every team (even the one that wins the league) goes through a spell at some time in a season when they struggle. Leeds, for obvious reasons, can't afford to have that sticky patch. For that reason I can't see them winning the league. If they do it'll be a fucking miracle tbh.

  7. I guess it's the age old argument of whether Scotland needs a strong Old Firm or a competitive league. Clubs like Aberdeen and my beloved Dundee United proved during the 1980s that they could cut it with the very best in Europe. At the same time, we simply don't have the resources anymore (particularly post-Bosman) to compete with th Old Firm. Hibs are a decent side but they won't have the squad to compete with the OF over the course of a season. If it looks like they're in with a shout come Christmas then just watch the west coast media link every single one of their players with a move to Glasgow. If you asked me right now i'd say that Scottish football is currently punching above it's weight (and long may it continue btw). We've had a number of fantabulous results in fairly quick succession but I think we can build on the optimism that has come from these results. On the anglo-scottish cup thing - great idea in theory, bad idea in practice. There are too many fans on both sides who can't handle their drink and too many of my fellow countrymen who unfortunately have a pathological hatred of all things English. UEFA wouldn't like the outcome.
  8. 2-0 to the boys. Everton had to work hard in midweek for their win against Mentalist Car-keys and it's a fair old flight back aswell. I'll get to this one as it's the last game left on my mate's season ticket before he comes back onshore.
  9. Provided it's a one footed tackle without the studs being raised i'd say that in this situation the tackle is ok (provided the ball is played before the man) because it seems to be from round the side of the ball carrier. If the defender goes through the back of the ball carrier to win the ball then referees will award a free-kick.
  10. It was one fan. There was riots in half of Man Uniteds games last year and they didn't get thrown out or points deducted. Nobody got onto the park in Rome though. When Demark played Sweden in a qualifier a few weeks back a fan ran onto the park and went for the referee. The end result was an automatic 0-3 defeat for the offending nation. I'm not sure if that game was abandoned or if that makes a difference but if that's the precedent then I think Celtic could be in a wee spot of bother.
  11. Captain van Nistelrooy has just paid off. Yep, a good night for captain Van. If it wasn't for him i'd be languishing in about 5th or something - oh the shame :-)
  12. hopefully I didn't expect any different div They probably won't get thrown out of the competition for one reason and one reason only - it's the group stages. Celtic have lost to Shakhtar Donetsk but have still to play Benfica. What happens to Shakhtar's points if Celtic are thrown out? That's a situation where the points/fixtures can't be reconciled without either Shakhtar or Benfica having legitimate grounds for complaint. Personally, I think they'll be stripped of the points, fined a gazzillionsquillion spondoolies and forced to play the remainder of their home games behind closed doors. UEFA might even deduct enough points to make it mathematically impossible for them to qualify but I think they'll be required to fulfil the remainder of their fixtures in the group stages for the above reasons. A bit over the top. Hope it doesn't go that way. Tbh Luca, I think it's a bit ott aswell but we've got to remember that the Champs League is UEFA's showpiece event. They (rightly imo) think it's more important than the World Cup. I don't think they'll take any prisoners.

  14. Was it not Dida who got hit by that firework against Inter a few years ago? Maybe he thought, "Wait a minute, I can get this game abandoned here - it worked the last time"
  15. Ach c'mon now, that's no very nice is it? It's Rangers we're talking about - you could have at least called them British bastards - you wouldn't want to offend them
  16. Top of the league Get it right round ye
  17. Dundee Utd - Love Is In The Air Kilmarnock - Paper Roses Hibs - Sunshine On Leith
  18. Have you ever heard Paul Merson try to say anything? Him and Ian Wright take the fuckin biscuit like. I actually like Wrightey. It's like having your very passionate England fan friend on the tele. That's the thing though, when I watch the football on the telly I want to hear incisive commentary and intelligent analysis for my license fee / Sky subscription. If I want to listen to a biased, loudmouthed, opinionated clown i'll go and watch the game in the pub.

  20. It makes a lovely change to see the club being rebuilt from the bottom up instead of throwing money at a "star" signing and hoping that our problems will just disappear. This gesture seems to give encouraging vibes about Ashley's long term commitment and ambition. 10/10 so far, Mike
  21. Haven't read the thread but anyway... Sammy Lee I always have to try and remember who he is again whenever I hear his name. Imagine what Nicolas Anelka must be thinking. "Fuck me, i'm one of the best centre forwards in Europe and i'm playing for Sammy fucking Lee"
  22. That's an interesting post. I agree with you about rugby fans and their holier than thou attitude. How can a sport in which it's ok to punch people in the face set a good example? I honestly don't see the skill in rugby. The philosophy of it seems to be "I'm bigger than you so fuckin beat it". With the American thing, i'm not so sure that they're arsed what the rest of the world thinks of them and their sports. A lot of them are probably unaware that there is a rest of the world.
  23. That was a strange game. I was never comfortable until we got the third goal but in the end we could have won by more. Every time we got the ball wide we looked threatening. All 3 goals came from wide areas. West Ham only ever looked dangerous from set pieces - I remember them getting a few free headers which is a concern but we got away with it. Mike Riley is a tw@t. Why did he pull the game back to the half-way line for a free-kick to Newcastle when we were through on goal? Fair enough if he'd booked somebody but he just spoke to the two players involved - completely nonsensical refereeing imo. I still don't agree with playing better players out of position to accomodate Alan Smith. Hopefully Enrique will get a start soon and we can start playing Milner AND Zoggy down the flanks.
