Why do third place deciding matches even exist? Why do you have to play them? Why can't you just abandon the fucking things and go home?

What's your worst ever footballing experience? As in, have you ever watched a match or witness something happen to your club/national team that makes you think that you want to give up football and never come back again and go take a nap on railroad tracks or something. And how did you get over it? No particular reason. Just asking.

Dear me, they're running a highlight reel of past meetings on TV right now which is basically a bunch of our wins and loads of shots of Japanese people crying I love how our collective maturity regresses to about five-years-old for these matches.

Korea never lose according to my wife (Korean), just jinxed the s*** out of that haven't i? Our current record stands at 40 wins, 21 draws, and 12 losses. The players always step it up a level when we play Japan. Historically it's been a matter of pride that we not lose to the old enemy, and I'm not afraid to admit that we probably take it more seriously than they do. The first post-colonial Korean manager to face Japan in an international was given a personal meeting with the President, and legend has it that the guy told him that he'd throw himself into the Pacific if he failed to beat them on their own soil. We won, of course. We have one less day of rest but I'd still bank on us winning. Losing to this lot in a major tournament would be just as unthinkable to the players as it would be for all of us watching at home.

Good player somewhere in there but make sure nobody looks at him funny / laughs at his car / wears after shave he doesn't like, or he'll go into a massive sulk and be of no use whatsoever. That's my concern over all of this. People are saying he's a good player, that was 2 seasons ago, and even then he faked his Granny's death to avoid an international game! Someone at the club really needs to sit down with him and work out if this guy wants to be a footballer. Sure, he'll say all the right things, but someone has to make the judgement call. Paying his wages, a signing on fee, and then watch him collect it for the next 2 years would be a piss take. Also, how will that affect the rest of the squad's mood? Hughton removed as much dead weight as he could and the prospect of adding someone who doesn't want to fight to the squad is worrying. Nothing to back up that Ireland is this type of player, just the attitude I assume he has from over the last 2 years.
