  1. Wow, this happened in October so I basically missed this whole thread completely. Interesting stuff.
  2. We had similar crowds for 2006 as well (when the matches were on after midnight.) 2002 was such a profound shared cultural experience for us... It's basically imprinted into our DNA to flock to the streets when world cup footy is on now. I personally think we have a very good chance of making the second round. We've got our best team ever and Greece and Nigeria(sorry babatunde ) both look very beatable to me. Of course, it'll still require some good form and plenty of luck on our part.
  3. It's like watching an exhibition match. I just feel kind of "meh" about it. This is flabbergasting to me. My entire country literally goes insane. For an entire month. (Well, okay admittedly we're rarely still in contention for the whole month, so probably more like two weeks) http://photo.gm.go.kr/down/%EA%B9%80%EC%9C%A0%EC%A2%85(%EC%9B%94%EB%93%9C%EC%BB%B5)5.jpg I am looking forward to some more of this in two month's time.
  4. I mean ideally yeah we'd get somebody with great pace, stamina, passing, vision etc. But that's not a luxury we have as a newly prmoted side, all the players we get will be limited in one way or another... And if there's one kind of midfielder we lack at the moment it's a good, energetic hard-tackler.
  5. Guthrie can Pass, Barton can pass. What we need in midfield is some energy.
  6. Alright, I've finally thought of a good Korean to plug in this thread Cho Won-Hee, plays for Wigan but Martinez didn't fancy him when he came in and loaned him out to his old club in Korea this season. He is literally the Korean Nigel Reo-Coker, Runs hard, tackles well, can't pass. He's got Park-level stamina and a great attitude. Seems like exactly the player we need. Would probably do well over there if someone gave him a chance. Then again, we'd probably have a good shot at getting the actual Nigel Reo-Coker himself, wouldn't we?
  7. Match started at 3:45AM on a work day for me. I sat through 90 minutes of relatively unexciting football just so I could watch the celebrations. ....Then I fell asleep during injury time. Argh.
  8. I'm going to watch this and fall asleep at work. Falling asleep at work might start World War 3, but... oh well, priorities.
  9. He the small fella at RB, possibly wears 8? Not sure if he wears 8, but aye he was the tiny lad who looked very impressive at Euro 2008. I've seen him a few times because I sometimes watch the Turkish national team(Turkey and Korea have a lot in common and I just like the country) and he's so much fun to watch.
  10. This is pretty much completely out of the blue, but one player I randomly love is Sabri Sarioglu from Galatasary. We need a right back and him and Enrique together would give us a ridiculous amount of pace and sheer energy on the flanks.
  11. The minute the title is confirmed somebody needs to post 'anyone!' and then close the thread.
  12. Teams from all over the world apparently. I read today that there would be a bunch of Korean lads going to this, didn't know NUFC would be as well!
  13. I wish we still had him. He's so underrated wish we had him on Wednesday night instead of Silvestre, he deserves to go though to get first team football. I still haven't forgiven him for 2006, but I've always thought he's been underrated. Would be a good signing. Also, the thought of potentially having Steven Taylor and Phillipe Senderos in the same defensive line somehow strikes me as ridiculously funny.
  14. Good rule of thumb for "realistic:" look at the players Wolves etc. bought last year after coming up. That's probably where we have to align our expectations at. Any player playing every week for a Premiership team? Probably not realistic. Any player not within two years of retirement currently playing for the Top 4? Probably not realistic. Any player from the continent that you've heard of? Probably not realistic. I know this sounds a bit defeatist and all, but it's what we have to live with. Hopefully the people running our club will have the nous to wriggle out some good (if slightly lesser well known) signings regardless.
  15. Interestingly enough Lee Dong-Gook has completely changed his game since his failure in England and he's very likely going to start up front for us at South Africa along for Park. Perhaps we should... ...Sorry, can't keep saying this with a straight face
  16. Ki Sung-Yong has the potential to be the best Korean to ever touch a football and would solve our creative midfield problems in one fell swoop. Unbelievable passing range and vision, moves all around the pitch, and a sweet set piece taker to boot. He's already good enough to be running the show for a team like Celtic had the manger used him properly... Figures how Mowbray has somehow managed to screw up two of Korea's best creative midfielders at two different teams by shoehorning them both into the DM position. Obviously I'd love Lee Chung-Yong here but there's already paper talk of a 7 mil move to Liverpool, and I don't see why he'd come here over Bolton. Park Joo-Young at Monaco has turned his career around and I'd be very interested in seeing how he'd fair in England but he's never been truly prolific and I think we're more in need of a proven goalscorer, especially considering that he wouldn't come cheap (I'm guessing 5m+). Class first touch and intelligence, with just enough strength and pace to give defenses trouble. Reminds me a lot of Gudjohnsen, who incidentally happens to be who he kept out of the team at Monaco.... Those three are the spine of the Korean NT along with Jisung Park right now... (Whom I'd love to buy and play in central midfield but he's obviously beyond our reach) Other than them I'm don't think there's a Korean player who's good enough to come into the Prem and make an instant impact. Not really the best of times to be after Korean players as most of the good ones have already been "discovered" and are playing in Europe now. We've got a good group of youngsters coming up who might be ready in 1~2 years though.
  17. Remember that 4-1 over Spurs under Keegan? I pretty vividly remember O'hara starting as a makeshift left back and getting ripped apart by Martins over and over and over again. Never thought we'd be wanting to sign that player just two years down the road.
  18. The beginning of my support of this club coincided with the appointment of Souness. Newcastle has lost every single time I've seen them live so far. What a lucky charm I am, eh?
  19. yeah, contract's up in the summer. Surprised he hasn't signed a new one already.
  20. That would be a mental decision from Stoke. I'm sure they'll do whatever's in their power to keep them... But I suppose he could want to leave.
  21. Apparently Ricardo Fuller is on a free. I'd certainly take him.

    Jonas Gutierrez

June 17th will be the first time in my life where I hope for Jonas to play miserably.
  23. They have about 3 different spines they can play. They can afford 2 first elevens whereas Arsenal don't have anywhere near the same strength in depth. I really don't think Barca is much deeper than Arsenal at all. They just have better players in general and some of Arsenal's best player seem heavily injury-prone. Lionel Messi is really good, btw. I'm just hoping he's having an off day on June 12. Really tired of playing such good teams in the first matches of the WC. Spain, Argentina, and Argentina in the last three Just remember to get him sent off so he can't play on the 17th my friend. Niggly halmstring injury will also do.
