    Ramos sounded out?

Should be forced to take the TOEFL before he's ever given another work visa in England.
  5. Nah, at best there are at most five South Koreans that I think could be an asset to us long term. He isn't one of them, but he's a proven international DM who's on a free and can come now. If the scouting "system" is any good then surely we should have had a look, especially considering that he's been sitting on his ass negotiating a contract with Monaco for the past month or so. What do you know of Ki Sung-Yong. I was told he's supposed to be a star by one of the many Koreans that live in building. I've seen bits of him, but obviously I'm not watching all that much of the K-League. He is a holding player too I believe. I'm still disappointed with one of the last Koreans who was supposed to be a world star, Park Chu Young. I've known about him for a long while, but he hasn't developed and has probaly regressed. I do watch Ligue 1 and seeing him with Monaco......well, he's just not very good. Ki Sung-Yong will be absolutely f***ing brilliant if he continues to progress at the same rate. He first came on the scene two years ago as a slightly one dimensional, deep-lying midfielder with fantastic distribution. Since then he's added little bits and pieces to his game every few months. Now he's something of the total package: he still has great distribution and vision but now he can bomb forward, beat his man, and get a decent shot off too. Also has a decent engine on him since he started really hitting the cardio last year. Just look at his stuff on Youtube. The kid's got class. Think his only concern now is physicality. But he's not a small lad (187cm) and bulking up should be a relatively simple manner if he's willing to put in the time. More than likely he'll be off to somewhere in Europe in the summer. As far as sheer talent and potential go I haven't seen a better South Korean prospect in my lifetime. Park Joo-Young was great while he lasted but I wasn't half as excited with him as I am with this guy. (Also speaks English by the way, as he grew up in Australia) And he's still only the same age as Andy Carroll. At the very least it will be a huge disappointment if he doesn't accomplish something in Europe considering that he's already too good for the domestic league at age 19. As for Park, he had a good skillset and the potential to be a top European striker, but just wasn't mentally strong enough to deal with the media pressure. Basically freaked out and mentally collapsed during his second year as a pro and was hit with a bad niggly injury that year as well. Hasn't been the same since. When he left for Monaco he couldn't claim to be one of the best strikers in the domestic league never mind in Europe. Monaco fans seem to think he's alright though.

  7. You ever noticed that when they do that thing with players that they end up being anything but? Emre: 'The Turkish Beckham'......aye, right oh. You're forgetting the "WiganToon Beckham" Ryan Taylor. Seriously though, I see him often and he's not bad at all. I had reservations about how well his physicality would translate to the prem but if Bruce is having a look surely there's something to see there. And we could use any sort of DM at all at the moment.
  8. http://www.wiganlatics.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10429~1560451,00.html South Korean defensive midfielder Cho Won-Hee on trial with Wigan. He'll be on a free if they choose to sign him. We absolutely should have been in for him. He's not much of a technician but he's got an absolutely ridiculous engine and tackles very well. Known as "the Korean Gattuso" With any luck, Bruce may be unearthing another hidden gem for nowt.
  9. To be fair, he really wasn't that bad before he came here. He's never been a prolific striker but he used to have much more of a positive influence for both Leeds and to a certain extent Man Utd. Some his faults appear to be mental ones, so I don't know how much of an excuse this is, but he's had his problems with injuries, mainly that one at Liverpool which seems to have been the turning point for him (and not in a good way). That number was quickly lifted from Wikipedia. IMO he was never good enough to play for England. Media hype-machine got him a lot more attention than he deserved.
  10. 19 caps for Alan Smith you'd think he was playing for the Faroe Islands or something.
  11. Hard to see how sitting at the pub would be any sadder than ah.... posting here.
  12. From whom? the fans/mongs. That's kinda tarring people with the same brush and it's not really fair. Dalglish - class manager, did ok, fans give him no time Gullit - s**** manager, did dhite, fans gave him no time in the world Sir Bobby - class manager, did well, fans gave him all the time in the worlduntil we finished 5th and the fans turn on his back. Souness - s**** manager, did s****, fans gave him no time Roeder - s**** manager, did s****, fans gave him no time Allardyce - s**** manager, did s****, fans gave him no time Keegan - class manager, did well in the grand scheme of things, fans gave him all the time in the world Kinnear - meh Should we, by some stroke of luck, appoint someone like Martinez - his 'time' would depend entirely on how he started. I don't think he'd unpopular appointment but he is a bit of an unknown quantity. If he started badly then fans would get on his back instantly... so in fairness to you, in this respect you would be right calling them mongs - given where we are atm, and given the potential of this manager. In the past however - whenever a manager hasn't been given time, the fans have been dead right tbh. So its not fair but he's right. Im sorry but i disagree with most of that post, newcastle fans wont see the sense in this appointment becasue there are only 3 types of managers who are good enough for this club - the world class appointments, the local lengends and the flavour of the months. Martinsez isnt mentioned enough on match of the day to be considerd flavour of the month yet. No time - no chance to succeed. Out of the 8 appointments, in my opinion nufc fans have called it right 4 times, definitely. As far as lower league managers go, he pretty much is the current flavor of the month already. Just read some of the papers, the media wanking machine is in full swing. By the end of the season, I think he'll be high enough in status that even most of the "mong" fans will give him time. He's already being called "the next Arsene Wenger"
  13. Why is NUSC honestly surprised that Llambias and co. isn't entirely keen on meeting with them? News Flash! Your primary goal is his removal! NUSC: "hey Derek, we demand a sit down with you so you can listen to our demands." Llambias: "Oh alright, what do you want then?" NUSC: "your head on a platter." Llambias:
  14. Who's picking the team on Sunday by the way? Kinnear from hospital or is it now totally Hughton's gig? Kinnear hasn't even played Smith before, bit harsh to assume that he would have started him if he was here
  15. I sense another cult forming
  16. Lets bump all our player threads on Saturday morning, just in case you're on to something.
  17. Likes of Smitih/Butt/Duff/Cacapa/Geremi are just really, really bad players. I haven't seen anything about them that makes me fault their attitude. Carroll's a cunt, but he's not visible enough for me care.
  18. If there's one good thing about our currents squad, it's that everyone seems so... likable. Just looking at the interviews we've seen from Bassong, Colo, Enrique, Nolan, Raylor and Harper etc. they've all come off as top blokes who enjoy playing for the club. No more shit-stirrers like Insomnia or lazy wasters like Carr. There's not a single member of our current squad that I honestly hate.
  19. This is exactly my question to NE5, and he will not answer it except to say Ashley is a clueless knobjockey etcetera etcetera Looks like you're right. Oh well. He won't answer because he can't answer it. Just keep on harping back to the 70's and 80's and the glory champions league nights which none of us have the slightest clue about. eeerrr.....exactly. Now, toonlass. I know I said this yesterday, but rather than get accused by somebody of "derailing the thread" when I didn't, I'll at least try to make it debateable now that its gone in this direction. Genuine question. You have yourself, Colos short and curlies [sorry if thats not quite right mate I still think of you as Scott parkers 60's haircut], madras, whatthefunk, a few others, taking the side of outright prudency in one corner. In the other, you have me, UV, Spence [maybe], johnnypd, and one or two others, and Dave sort of in the middle but wavering over to "our" side because he's very bothered by the current position and other things. We were all very pleased when Keegan walked through the door, weren't we ? [apart from one or two like ozzie and Baggio who have expressed their opinions of him ie quitter and all of that bollocks, IMO]. Why were you pleased. Was it because you envisaged the club spending some money to back him and getting back into europe and better ? If that were still the case, what would you now be saying ? Also - if Ashley had kept Given, and spent say 20m quid not just to get away from the foot of the table, but with a concrete desire to improve the fortunes of the club, which also improve the financial position if these new players are successful [which is the key]. What would you be saying ? Would you be pleased, or would you be saying that we shouldn't be doing this because of the debts ? I'm going out now, I don't give a toss about the snow. I don't want to derail, but hopefully there will be some good honest replies. well, this is now 4 days later, and it would appear nobody ie those who continue to say that I'm wrong and they are right, has replied to what was a genuine question. Even you know why nobody answers you, right? As I've said before (and you've said you don't care), you'd get a lot more respect if you took time to answer questions rather than being the smug, intolerant, self righteous old man you've become. Become? He was probably born from his mother's womb screaming "what do you think of a manager who has won 4 titles with 2 different clubs and 3 manager of the year awards?" to the doctor instead of crying.
  20. Judging by all the glowing interviews coming out from our camp recently, it seems like Kinnear's ordeal has actually had a positive effect on morale and brought everyone together as a team. If one of Nolan/Guthrie are available and Oba is fit, I think we're in with a chance.
  21. Wonder what it is about Italian players that makes them so fit well into their mid-thirties.
  22. Have a feeling our kit is going to look absurdly bad after seeing Chelsea's.
  23. Nah, his "forums" are about as real as joe's "loan signings"
  24. Too expensive too old wouldn't settle. Makes absolutely no sense. Which is probably why we'll sign him
  25. Of course, Swansea passing us by on their way up would be the ultimate irony. Although I'd love to see them come up. Wouldn't they be the "smallest" club to play in the Premiership in quite some time?
