  1. Must you all love Japan so much. It's not as if I'm already disillusioned with football as a whole already.
  2. Sewelly's windups would be more effective if I actually watched football anymore
  3. At this point I suspect that Ashley did indeed intend to bring Kinnear in on some honorary "jobs for the boys" capacity, but everyone's been taken aback by how he's unilaterally gone to the press and vastly overstated his authority. They're now delaying confirmation while trying to figure out the least embarrassing way out of this mess. Total shambles really.
  4. Ugh, so this wasn't a bad dream after all.
  5. The one final rational explanation I've come up with for this is that Kinnear is genuinely close to death and has asked his old friend for one final job in football, even if i carries very little real authority.
  6. Just to make us feel better, I fully expect "Graham Carr joins Man City" news within the next week.
  7. Can we just close down the football forum for a year? Chat is so much nicer and not suicide inducing.
  8. Obviously it's not enough to make us get upset about him leaving one. So they'll have to fake it once, give us hope, and do it all over again later.
  9. If we're to change manager mid-season I'd rather he had players like Cabaye in the team than mediocre shite. Cabaye's future was decided when the club decided to keep Pardew. We were never keeping him long term after that
  10. At least it's Monaco so we're probably getting a pot of gold for him. Just find it pretty hard to care about the squad when we're probably headed for a managerial change and major upheaval midseason anyway. No point crying over a loose floorboard when the whole house is coming down soon.
  11. Sounds like my experience last week at Maracana, except the closes kiosk there was like 30-40 mins away from the stadium so I bought a new one from some random guy wanting to get rid of an extra one he had. I'm assuming that anything a Korean can fuck up, a Brazilian can fuck up better
  12. Not yet. We could conceivably still drop out if we lose to Iran at home next week and the Uzbeks beat Lebanon while overcoming a 6 goal difference in the process. Was really pissed off today. Arrived at the ground 10 minutes before kickoff but the idiots at the FA hadn't set up enough kiosks to print internet-booked tickets for people. Was standing out in the rain for nearly an hour and only got in at 37 minutes. We scored a minute later

    Chris Hughton

Hughton is probably a better manager than Pardew. Then again, we've all accepted at this point that a pile of dog poo is a better manager than Pardew. That said, replacing him was probably worth it in hindsight just for the fluke of finishing fifth last year.

Personally I'd love to see what he could do with Messi

No way, I dislike Pardew beyond what's reasonable, but Souness destroyed us. There's not a team in Europe that Souness couldn't destroy given 2 or 3 seasons. Negligent cunt. KK brought this club's status up a level in thr ninties. Souness brought us back down. Incompetent as Pardew is, he's only had us doing as badly as we've already been doing for the past few years.
  16. I swear we've been afraid of signing Carlton Cole for about a decade now
  17. I say we give him for free to whoever San Lorenzo's most bitter rivals are. Just to spite them.

    Alan Pardew

I can somewhat understand the decision from a rational point of view but I'm just so sick of Pardew I can't be excited about anything as long as he's in charge. We could sign Messi tomorrow and I'd be like "meh, he'll be shit in a month."
  19. History will probably reassess Beckham's move to LA if it comes to be remembered as the first step in Soccer making the big time in the US.

I'm convinced that the full extent of Kinnear's tactical instructions was "alright lads, it's 4-4-2, you know what to do. Go out there and run hard!"

That's generally what you do with stats, you know, analyze them My eyes have shown me enough to tell me that our attacking play is poor, but numbers do prove that we create at least as many chances as most other teams. It's just that creating chances doesn't fully correlate with good attacking play. Stats are fine as long as you accept that there are limitations on their analytical value. You don't need to be pigeonholed into thinking they're either omnipotent or completely worthless. Certainly don't agree with some sports fans treating them like they're the devil.
